Surely we need a replacement for Hooper? Some1 that can play the full 90min and is not injury prone and comes cheaper then a marquee that goes off the sight of a scratch.

No, we will still try to re-sign players we want. Talay spoke about wanting to have 14-15 committed for next season so he didn't have to start from scratch again. We currently have 14 signed and I would expect we would look to secure De Vere's signature asap but after that it might be quiet on the contract front for awhile.

2 starts, 2 goals is what you meant.

Hooper's got a goal every 110 minutes he's played - Davila, who has an incredible 10 in 12, has scored every 107 minutes by comparison. Royz mate

Can someone please also look up how many goals we score on average with Hooper on the field, then off, as I think this would be more telling.

I imagine Ridenton will be looking for a contract next year... based on form, and where we are at currently, I don't think he is what we need or good enough to get a gig... but he could be seen as a similar signing to Sotorio, good squaddie??

Hooper has played 196 minutes (out of a total of 1080). In that time we have scored 8 goals. So a goal every 24.5 minutes.

In the other 884 minutes, we have scored 10 goals. A goal every 88.4 minutes.

So despite only playing 18.1% of minutes, we have scored 44.4% of our goals while he has been on the field.

I think we will have to wait until the end of the season to find out what is happening with Steinmann, Hooper & McCowatt. I'm sure the club will wanna retain them but they will want to keep their options open.

Cracking stat. Our morale went up when he signed and some pressure was lifted off Bally and Davila, which has helped them imo.

In this 6 sub appearances:

  • the result has stayed the same 4 times (1 x loss, 2 x draw, 1 x win)
  • we've won the game once when it was a draw when he came on
  • we've won the game once when we were losing when he came on

In his 2 starts, we've been losing once when he came off, and winning once.

With Macarthur starting to poach players, and the Aussie talent starting to be spread very thinly amoung the other 11 teams, you'd expect the Nix with exactly the same squad (with improvements to the ability of the young players) would be an even more serious contender next season.

Not exactly sure what your point is, but only two of those players (Piscopo and Devlin) would be any cause for concern if they were playing against the Nix. As the Aussie playing stocks are spread thin, the inherent advantage of only the Nix being able to sign the best NZ talent as locals becomes a pretty large advantage.

I was horrendously wrong about Davila based on his first game. But having said that, he was appalling in his first game, and Ufuk immediately shifted his position to a CAM which massively reduced his defensive responsibilities and gave him the option to float in between the lines and set up our attacks.  I still think he would be not great out wide in our system.

He played out wide v CCM until Ball went off

Agreed and I thought his impact on the game in the first half was massively reduced.  Who knows about his defensive responsibilities, CCM barely touched the ball in the first half, only the Ball.

My point was that it is not just the other teams. The Nix are not as 'unattractive' to Australian players as we used to be in the past. We can - now - seriously compete for them based on our financial stability and on a more secure licence basis. Having Australian coaches able to scout for them also helps.

A-League Hub reporting that City have pulled out and Victory or Wellington are likely destinations for Rojas now.

Given that Uffie said we won't be signing anyone else in January would be hard to see him going anywhere except Victory now.

I'd be very surprised if he ended up here, though I wouldn't complain.

Just look at Saturday, what a massive difference it would have made to have someone of his caliber in the team when we were missing Ball and Piscopo..

It won't happen though.
