NOOO
He was cancerous at Huddersfield Town, both on and off the pitch by all accounts.
- This is from a Huddersfield supporter.
Was the same at the Argyle as well. A big no from me.

I’d be keen to find a few more Euros with Kiwi connections if we can. Someone like Ben Chilwell - far too good for the league of course, but he’s a regular English international and even then it wasn’t common knowledge that his dad was a Kiwi until very recently. Surely there’s more Bens and Themis scattered across the European leagues so we can pick up a couple domestic options?
Such a pity his old man didn't talk him into wearing the fern 10 years ago.
Kompany is leaving City. We could be cheeky and see if he'd like to experience Wellington.

As cool as that would be, he's announced as player-manager at Anderlecht

Pffft. No ambition. Joining the Mighty Phoenix would be something he could brag to his grand-kids about one day.
TEAM NEWS | ? Players to depart Wellington Phoenix.
— Wellington Phoenix (@WgtnPhoenixFC) May 20, 2019
The club would like to thank @nathanburns10, @CillianSheridan, @Kopczynski22, Golec, Gulley and Lowry and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

I suppose no news is good news re: Krishna and Williams, right?

Mandi ?
Thought he was off as well, although the club never annouced anything. Doesn't get a special thank you?
Leaves only four players who are coming off contract but still technically with the club - Krishna, Williams, Doyle and Dura. I really hope we can keep all of them. Either way its a heck of a rebuild we've got to undertake again.
wouldn't be unhappy if Doyle was cut, Dura can retire here for mine, Krishna and Williams must be Talay's first deals made!

Maybe Mandi's not actually gone yet...
These releases seem more of a sentimental loss rather than a loss of player quality
Burns - Thanks for the memories, injuries hindered his second-coming. Feel for him after what he did for us a few years ago, but too expensive to keep on the cards for what he could offer.
Sheriff - Provided great banter and got off to a really promising start but never really built on his early performances off the bench, seemed to lose more and more confidence as the season rolled on.
Kopa - This is probably our biggest loss out of the lot. Did well to be converted to centre back, luckily he was flexible as the early rumours was that Rudan was pretty unhappy with his abilities as a DM which he was initially signed for.
Golec - Always had a soft-spot for him because of his A-League Memes lordship, did a job when we needed him to, always felt temporary.
Gulley - You really root for the Wellington based players to do well. Also an ex-Stop Out player so I'm sad to see him go, didn't seem to be at A-League level on his second chance.
Lowry - Feel like we're losing a bit with him leaving too, losing both him and Foxy feels a bit sad as a season or two ago felt that at least one of them would be handed the torch once Dura retires. Brutally unlucky to pick up that red card during the Glory game at Westpac Stadium.
Now we turn our attention to Doyle, Dura, Williams and Krishna. Does anyone know what formation Talay would prefer? I don't see Dura performing as well as he did this season if he goes back to only having one other CB partner. He really flourished in a back 3.
Couple of journos making it sound like we haven't written Mandi off completely. I'd certainly be keen to lure him back and see what he can do with a full preseason and another year between him and his torn achilles.

I got a sponsored Instagram post from Mandi saying thanks and goodbye to NZ. Maybe Welnix have completely forgotten about him, and he’s resorted to sponsored Instagram posts in the hope someone from the club sees it and remembers to resign him!!!
Negotiating a new contract via Instagram? How 21st century
Either that or he just meant he was going back home for now; doesn't mean he won't be back after signing another contract.
Out of all the imports, Mandi was the one I was 50-50 on. The rest I wasn't too bothered if they left or not.
I still think the Sheriff had something to offer.
The Phoenix have given Andrew Durante time to consider his future with the club and are very keen to retain him in either a playing or non-playing capacity 3/3

...and Ufuk Talay has yet to make a call on whether Tom Doyle will be offered a contract extension.

Say what you like about the backroom situation at WPFC, but - unlike the drifting last offseason - stuff is being sorted out ASAP under Talay and he's not even technically here yet.
I hope Talay Ufuk is planning to bring some players with him from Sydney. It's hard to win with only 7 players on the park. Sad to see The Koppa go. I thought he was good value. I'll also miss the Sherryman podcast... (not really but anyway).
Interesting times!
Kopa was out on Saturday at the Karori meet and greet signing autographs etc - looks genuinely happy in the photos, maybe Warsaw had called him back. Who knows...
It's all up to Ufuk now
So basically from Piney's tweets all we can gather is that at the moment the nix are in contract negotiations with just two of the playing group from this season - Krishna and Williams (With the possibility of Mandi, however the club have conceded he is unlikely to be back).
Assuming (a big assumption I know) that we resign all 4 of Roy, Willo, Dura and Doyle and we can sign Marinovic, we've got the core of a good team. Still have Taylor, still have Singh, still have Rufer, still have Libby and Louis. It's bones only the bones of a squad, but they're healthy ones.

Completely agreed. Roy is the big one for me.
I'm not sold on us keeping Taylor - I feel like he was actually underwhelming this season; maybe an unpopular opinion..
He also has a reputation for having second season syndrome (at Newcastle even, he often had one "on" season and one very "off" one)
Too late now though!
re: Brockie; I don't think he should come back. I would rather that spot be taken up by a promising young player - even someone like Elliot Collier..

Brockie is so hot and cold and doesn't really offer anything when he isn't scoring. He's not really what I'd call an impact sub..
I can see the logic, but I also remember how poor he was for most of the last season he was with us.
I just drove past the airport and saw a massive queue of proven HAL goal scorers keen to sign up for a one year contract; some visa players, some not. Lucky there's no rush so we get to have our pick.

You nearly had me there till I realised it was a queue clearing Customs at the departures gate.

....
Not real confidence boosting when a bench striker looking for his first goal gets left on the bench till the 85th minute in a 8 goal walkover. Perhaps an experienced coach would have given him 45 minutes that game to acquire some confidence.

I really hope that we can keep the Krishna - Williams - Singh combination for next year. They provided alot of our best moments this year and really seemed to have an understanding at times. It could get even better for them with another season playing together.
wouldn't be unhappy if Doyle was cut, Dura can retire here for mine, Krishna and Williams must be Talay's first deals made!
Doyle is an interesting one. I've always liked him because (a) he's a Kiwi, (b) he always gives 100% even in a losing cause, and (c) he can slot into a range of positions across the backline. But I can't help thinking he might be one of those players who looks better in poorly performing teams precisely because of that never say die attitude.
Fact is he never looked comfortable in Rudan's set up this season and his lack of finesse was glaringly obvious. But I really hope we hang on to him because he is still relatively young and I'm sure can develop his game to a higher level. Plus if we do go back to be being a shark team we will need him!
Definitely need Doyle. He seems to have taken the brown/lia scapegoat title for the team.
Doyle needs to learn to pass, he gifts possession away too much... and his brain fades/fouls around the box are too frequent.
I want him to stay, but he has some glaring holes in his game.
as a squad player he is fine

If we go back to being a shark team we do not need shark to help us out
Did he play like a starter last season? No. Is he slow? Yes. Is he good at playing out from the back? No. But there are strengths to his game that I'd miss if he left. Always thought his crossing ability was good, and he always does well in the air. He also will do anything to stop a shot and its nice having guys like that (think Rufer). We could be seeing Krishna and Dura leave club, so surely it pays to keep him because he's at worst an average centre back who is an experienced kiwi at the club for a good while
Just chucking a name out there - Blake Ricciuto. Aussie who has just been awarded player of the month in Singapore.
Seems to be in a good vein of form and could be an asset as a squaddie
"Payne was invited to trial via a group email last season but turned down the opportunity. But that should not stop the club from trying to secure the 18-cap New Zealand international, perhaps with a more personal touch next time."
If true that's not great from the Nix.
