Really? Which game/s? Certainly not the home loss against Sydney. That was abysmal and what I have compared every performance against since. Since that game, we have at least passed the ball through the midfield instead of hoofing it from the back four.

For me, last nights game was the game of the season. I travel down from Palmerston North and last night made the trip so worthwhile. I brought a mate who hasn't been to a game for 4 years and he loved it. I'm not saying our performance was perfect, there were certainly some crap crosses and wayward passes but it is a massive improvement from that Sydney game in a short space of time.

To be honest, I hadn't noticed Fenton or Boyd in the NZFC (or Rojas for that matter) so I think there must be quite a lot more that can play at A League level. Saw a lot of Biss and his potential was obvious. Time for a 2nd NZ team?
As much as I want a Waitangi Day derby, lets win us a few trophies first before we start talking about halving our available talent pool.

Was sitting behind the goal when googol (sic) scored. As a former top class keeper (cough) my first thought was Paston should of done more. Certainly a great shot but it took ages before the kick was allowed to be taken and Pasty didn't seem very animated. Also from this vantage point I thought there were 2 or 3 times when we should of had a lash at goal but made a short pass to someone in a worse position. A bit gunshy. It's positions like that where players like Smeltz score goals.

I'm not sure why we are celebrating being able to pass it out of the back 4. It should be expected that our team can do that.

I still think some of you are confusing an entertaining game with great football. The best example I can probably think of is watch any recent Adam Sandler film. Entertaining yes, but not great films. Last nights game had entertainment, drama, dominance, the come back and all those elements. But let's not call that great football. If we played like that against CCM, WSW and the Victory, they would have us. Yes we got balls into the box, awesome. What's the conversion rate and how many times have we been saying that the conversion rate is ordinary? Look at those crosses and you will see why it's low because the crossing was low quality.

We can and have played better than that this year. If that's the bench mark for great football from the Phoenix, I'm worried. If that's the bench mark for entertainment, sure lets have it every week.

Ok I'm biting.  NO.  People are barely supporting this team (have you seen our crowd figures?) .  A-league have already said they are committed to a 10 team competition and no plans to expand http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7971084/A-League-expansion-ruled-out
AFC will kick up a stink if NZ, being in a different confederation, is allowed another team before an Australian one.

True, but that's not relevant to the analogy when we have a salary capped league, especially when the Nix have no marquee players.

The question is whether we want the Nix to deliver populist, low-brow entertainment a la Sandler or art-house, best-foreign-film-at-the-Oscars twaddle that the critics love but nobody will fucking watch.

Thank god for Piney, Chotey and Dan. Didn't get to see the game but did download the full radio commentary last night at 2 in the morning and without knowing the result listened to it 'live'. Sounded like an exciting, crowd pleasing match, and by the 93rd minute I had the full anxiety shakes, which I've barely felt all season. Were we good or were we crap? I don't know and I don't care, it's 3 points.

It's Bart. He did try watching it through some silly rose tinted thingies that he bought off some Liverpudlian that were for sale on eBay UK but found that even through those, the team was still not the best team in the league. He does fart a lot but not sure I would really pay that any attention...

You're right Junior82! Being a keeper... unless he knew if was coming from the right and bending a bit left up over the wall and into the top right corner (or his left) and then actually being there... there was nothing he could do!

Ive had the benefit of replays now.

Firstly, Paston was hopelessly out of position for that free kick. He got nowhere near it and it didnt go in just near the post either.

I would have been very disappointed not to have scored that from that position with that wall and that goalkeeper position.

Secondly, I thought Fred was one of our better players.

Thirdly, the energy we showed was miles in front of the Heart, even if much of our passing was crap.

Fourthly, as Ive mentioned before, players really need to more confident to hit the ball first time on that surface. Too many players want one touch or two more. Bertos is one of the worst offenders for this, but contrary to some of the comments here, I think overall he had a great game and put in a lot of good crosses

If we'd not gone down 0-2 to a great free kick (after a sloppy foot-trip) and an own goal, from a Heart play that had us seriously in trouble, we'd all be seeing it for what it was.  A cake-walk over a mid table team missing five of it's starting players and playing away.

Good game, entertaining come-back.  A League standard for mid table.

Nix will make 4th to 6th playing like this.  Lift the quality a bit more and you are in the hunt for GF.

I enjoyed it.

Agree. Some of the crap I've read about that free kick is laughable. No keeper on this planet would have save that.

Standing in the middle of the goal could be a good idea if you are not sure whethe the taker is left or right footed. Okay, he may have been unsighted a bit, but he was woefully out of position and didnt react at all

Aren't they second from bottom? And kinda close to bottom with FC beating CCM? It was kinda like the first game in the end. Which I'd be happy to see more of from us.

Fred and Thompson missing in action. I'd like to see how this goes against a team with a solid midfield. If we can breakdown some of the sides from further up the table then I'll be happy.

Looks also like we're trying to develop a bit of consistency with our starting team which makes me think Huysegems will be on the bench again next week. I'd bracket him with Brockie- but Brockie ran all game shutting down players- I watched him at one point late in the game sprint from keeper to one fullback back to the keeper and across to the other fullback to really put the pressure on.

Also nice tackle and pass from Vinnie Lia to get us going. we don't need that magic midfielder we got vinnie! Looking to Boyd and Totori to get their first goals. At the moment we've got goal scorers on the pitch in Brockie, Sanchez and Fenton, with Stein on the bench. Siggie having a quiet season in front of goal.

want to see more of this.

agree..a very average free kick dealt with by a less than average keeper..paston left far too big a gap for him to aim for

Definitely dominated ; Heart got a very good free kick from a player that's never scored one before and a lucky own goal - could've been a different story.

Speaking of which, that was Mebrahtu's second A-league goal, he got his first a few weeks back against Perth, so have no idea what Ngata was on about there.
Just goes to show how shit the commentary from Sky is.

Thought it was de Jong? Given all the delayed coverage from Sky, maybe he didn't get to see the game. Wish they could get GGW, even if it did mean Miles Davis as colour commentator.

Maybe, just saw it on the highlights channel while massively hungover. But at least those little stats are easy enough to pick up in this day and age, even just half an hour before the game starts.
