It could get ugly....

I want Pasty back in goal. Smith and Sanchez behind Greenie. Ward, Bertos Daniel, Siggy, Dura, Lochhead and Tsattalios all to start

Benchies - Warner, Lindsay, Brown and Griffiths

what are your thoughts? can we cause an upset?

edit: I can't believe I forgot Manny! take out Bertos

Bertos to bench please!
Agree Paston in goal
             Paston
Tsatallios Dura Siggy Lochhead
         Muscat   Smith
Ward     Sanchez      Daniel
             Greenacre

Bench: Bertos (to come off and try and get confidence back by running at tired defenders in the last 10-15 minutes.
Brown
Griffiths
Warner

Muscat and Smith would be an industrious anh hard working midfield, Smith is really impressing me in doing the simple things well. Cliche but reminds me of when Muscat first came..........

I quite like this team...probably a pity that Ricki wont drop Leo or Tim

Manny Siggy Dura Lochy
     Brown Smith
Daniel Sanchez Bertos
       Greenie

Ideally, I would like to see Brown and Bertos dropped, and Ward and someone else take their places, but I can't see Ricki doing this.

If I were Ricki I would get Manny into midfield fast to be a ball winner so it reduces the amount of times it gets through to our sometimes shaky defence.
Hence Tsatallios starts.

Also Ward tends to play well from the start rather than come off the bench

I was curious how old our playing day 15 would be; 431 years at an average age of 29.

IMO if we're gonna do it, we need to get in quick before we get tired, then play tough ass defence.

In that, i would try to get the quickest couple of guys we've got up front. Melbourne looked threatening on the quick break against the Roar.

Tsatallios and Downey perhpas, run them until they can't breathe, and then sub them off and shut up shop, even if it means clinging for the draw.

Of ocurse this is all unrealistic, but then maybe Smith at the top for the first part is the key. He's faster than Greenie, and IRC he was a handy goalscorer in whatever the lower league was he came from.

I realise it's no silver bullet, but if we expect that our gameplan over the last 3 weeks is gong to break the Roar.. then Ricki's dreaming.

Think Ward should come in for Leo. But Manny has to stay at right back for now.

Paston will have a hell of a job coming back, but hey, might as well.

I ahte the fact Manny has to stay there. What about Smith at RB? Play him more as a wing back? Move Manny into the holding midfield, to try and shut things down?

Bertos can't play wing position anymore. Ricky should give him a chance to play as right fullback ...

I think we should go for a 7-2-1 and adopt the flying 'V' defensive formation.Azevo2011-11-06 20:05:27

Reheating an old topic: no disrespect to Durante cos we all know he's a quality defender but looking at his age there it seems less and less likely that he's going to get an international call up. It must surely be tempting to hang in there for NZ citizenship and maybe push for an All Whites spot....

hmm...Bertos to right back, Manny to mids and Ward to wing is interesting, but doesn't give us anything off the bench,

Brown isn't a bench impact player...

Someone knee cap Tim Brown so he can't play.
Chase Leo with a knife through Courtney place so he remembers how to run at pace and get past someone. :P

I hate to say it but I can see this degrading into the phoenix kicking chunks out of the roar. The cards will fly in this one, and it'll mostly be to the phoenix.

on a side note, not overly impressed with Tsatallios yet. Still very raw and lacks decision making skills at times

I think if we score early it will make them mad (just thinking about the Adelaide game). Let's get into HT scoreless, then nick one in the 15 straight after, and cling on for a 1-0 win.

Having said that, I don't think we have the faintest chance in this one.

I sure hope we get the tactics right for this game....forget the "we will attack them and go down with guns blazing bullsh*t". Every week around the globe there are teams that come up against the Man U's and the Barcelona's of the world. Ok, sometimes that get dicked, big time. But often they sort out their tactics and play to their strengths and the games are close. Occasionally if they get everything right they can cause an upset.

As we saw last weekend when a 9 man Victory held out Brisbane, you can have an impact on the game if you employ the right tactics and everyone plays according to the plan. Look at the Champs league final where Inter beat Barcelona.

Teams like the Roar thrive on space....they need that to implement their fast passing quick player movement game. If you squeeze up the gap between the back four and the defensive midfielders, if you get your wide midfielders to track and close down their wide guys then you are in with a chance. Sounds fine in theory but you do need everyone totally commited to the game plan and as players get tired, you do need a strong bench.

I guess what I'm trying to say, in a long winded way is PARK THE FERKIN BUS!!!!!!
