We play better when we have a player red carded, and Brisbane play worse. There we go Ricki, problem solved.

Brown: counts a guarranteed 0 nowadays

Daniel: very inconsistent between 0 to 1

So on a good day we'll play with 9.5 men, and 8.5 on a bad day....

That's why we'll again play like we have no midfield at all and send long balls forward hoping for a miracle from Greenie...

I really hope they prove me wrong and actually pass the ball around a bit more. i want to see a different way of playing than last weekend.

We moved the ball around (like Brisbane) against Perth and Melbourne and is was still the same outcome as last weekend against Central Coast.

The biggest thing for us to do right now is score more than one goal in a match!

Two goals puts us in with a shout of points. Three goals and we'd be unlucky not to bring some points home!

I really couldn't give a sh*t how we get the ball in the back of the net just as long as we do it as many or more times than Brisbane do!

Is it true that Brislamabad have only received 5 Yellow Cards in total in their five matches so far this season?

Maybe Piney can confirm this?

not sure the best place to post this so going to do it here. Getting sick of all the Brown haters! Tim Brown is, has and will be a top quality midfielder in the a-league. He is our most capped player and chips in with alot of goals from midfield (i think a goal every 4 games over the past 2 seasons) and alot of very important ones at that. A fantastic record for any midfielder anywhere in the world.

He is not a playmaker, he is a box-box midfielder, that works superbly as a 2nd striker playing the formation that suits us best 4-3-3. With that formation he is a link man in midfield then gets himself in the box, Defensively he cannot be questioned as he then tucks in and defends for our wide players to allow them to cheat and stay higher up the pitch. He has runs on the board over the years and deserves his place in our team.

The problem lies with the players have available at the moment. WIth Manny being pushed back to right back, Tim has had to play a more defensive mid field where he is less effective. This is not the reason we are losing, our strength at home has always being getting at people out wide with leo, ifill and marco, and getting quality into the box. This is not happening currently. Can we fix this with limited players available at the moment? Thats the thing needs solving, not dropping Tim.Murph662011-11-08 10:57:45

I don't think anyone would say "I hate Tim", but...the problem is if he doesn't score...then his contribution would be very little...

He's not a technically gifted player, not a playmaker/organiser, not a hardcore tackler, not someone who can keep the ball when needed...but he's a poacher in the midfield who ran into the box and snatch goals...a bit like a Greenie in the midfield (without Greenie's vision & distribution).

Correct me if i'm wrong but personally and honestly i believe Brown's contribution to OUR MIDFIELD is very very limited. He seems have lost his form after picking up the injury before the world cup, similar story to Leo Bertos...which is a bit sad.

Countless times this season i see Brown giving away the ball in midfield, heading the ball straight back to opposition, not tracking back and help out defence..etc...let's just talk about the game against CCM, how many times did we see Brown roaming around CCM's penalty area, slowly walking back, without even trying to trace back and help out the defence...WHEN CCM is counter attacking!?

Brown is a great NZ Footballer, no doubt, but that doesn't mean he's granted to be in our first XI every week, to me form is more important, tbh at the moment i'd rather start Ward in front of Brown.

Thin squad + injuries + suspensions don't help but i still think Brown is not in form and should be dropped to bench.

Damage limitation time for the Phoenix. I'd say we should play with 3 centre backs...kinda like how the Victory just kept there whole team barring Kewell and Thompson in and around the box.

Ricki can't be serious about picking up a result against these guys is he?

We have only been kept scoreless in one game this season. Though I do agree that a draw will be an acceptable result and we should be pragmatic about chances in this game.

Don't you mean a draw away to Roar would be a fantastic result?  I would be ecstatic if we managed it.

Totally agree with the first part, not sure if I agree with the second.  I remember thinking long before the Cup that there were much better options in the All Whites and Phoenix midfield than Tim.

I don't think Brown is the worst player in the world, or that he is the root of all of our problems - but I don't think he is up to A-league standard and this leaves a hole in the centre of the park.  I can't help but wonder if Tim is in the side because he genuinely seems a good bloke, a team player and a leader than because of his footballing talents (Grant Elliott got chosen to play cricket against Australia for very similar reasons).

If that is the case then I would love to see Brown retain some position at the club, but i would also love to see Lindsey given a run on the field in his place and for the rest of the midfield to rise a notch in the pecking order at Tim's expense.

If I were Ricki, I would push Tim further up(take him out of midfield) and have him play close to Greenie. Tim's contribution to midfield is poor, and if you lose control of that, then you usually get beaten.
He has this knack of arriving in the penalty area at the right time and he does score goals. So put Manny back in the middle where he can control it and go from there.
With Tim in the midfield we are effectley playing with 10. If we were dominating teams then we would get away with Tim playing box box, but we just cannot afford to play like that at the moment.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

In the past I've seen Tim as an all good player but recently I've been watching him more closely and he hasn't been doing much, walks around/back a lot. Ward hasn't been much either.
Although Brown does get himself into decent positions hes squandered his opportunities thus far, if that wasn't the case he'd be considered a top performer.
If he doesn't improves his contribution and/or completes his chances could see Ward start. He should certainly lose his spot when Lia recovers.

They're frustrated after scoring 15 goals in 5 games.?? F**k me. What have we ever done to them.

Least Nicholls is out and Broich looking unlikely.

Ricki should change things up a bit in hope of that Miracle.

           Paston
Griffiths Siggy Dura Lochy
          Ward Smith
            Ifill
        Greenie Warner

We seem to play better with 10 men (Sanchez's goal), and the Roar seem to get confused when there isn't 11 men for them to run and pass around.

Nix paying $10 for win. Very long odds for a one-off game.

Unfortunately, probably about right. Still tempting though.

I have the maximum number of 4 in my team. A hatrick to Berisha and a brace for Broich, with the Nix scoring no goals would result in 54 points for me.

So, you're saying that if Brown was scoring at a respectable rate from his opportunities at goal, he would be a top performer?  OK.  Let's check the statistics:

Brown has 19 goals from 59 on target of 126 shots (just over 15% of his attempts are goals).  This is very similar to Greenacre's 16 goals from 55 on target of 106 shots  (again, just over 15%), and looks a lot better than Ifill's 16 goals from 78 on target of 181 shots (not quite 9%).  Daniel and Nick Ward take even more shots/goal than Ifill.

Now, I'll be fair and save you from having to run out and get a Tim Brown replica shirt.  He's not as efficient as Shane Smeltz, who scores an A-League goal every five shots.  Or maybe you're just complaining about the current season?  Well, Brown has 1 from 6, while Greenacre has 2 from 12 and Daniel has 1 from 9.

If you have it mind that Brown should be benched due to some "shocking misses", my advice is to switch to decaf and/or watch Chelsea's blooper reel for some perspective.

When was Brown a top quality midfield player for 72 days?

Three for me, and two for them.

Greenie needs a rest, also i'll bench Brown, i'd play traditional "10 0 1" formation with Warner upfront, but we need to make sure he wears his GK shirt/shorts with his gloves, hopefully he can get them confused (shouting: pass the ball back to me!!!??) and snatch a couple of goals
