It would be an option if we had a competent centre back to replace him with.

leo's positional sense was dreadful as a RB - so many times against Bahrain I watched and cringed- but he ended up doing okay.

However the time for change is NOT against brisbane! we can try new stuff against others, but Adelaide thought theyd play with theyre CB/RB combination and they scored so many from that side of the field...

well it's a balancing of evils: Griffiths with Siggie righ and muscat in the mids

or Tsats with muscat in the mids

or muscat at right back with the Ward,Brown, Smith, Sanchez midfield

Pretty sure that the stats refer to movement during the game, not necessarily just running. So walking around the penalty box, etc, would all be counted.
It's still interesting. I think the guys who cover the most ground will still be running the most. Most players all stop for a walk when the ball goes out or for any other stop in play. Obviously goal keepers run about three times a game but the rest is a walk or a sideways shuffle here and there.

Fuck this stupid game

What impressed me was the little amount of running Xavi did compared to the rest- maybe hes secretly a capital 7 player in disguise?

OR

the better players have to run less than the rest, and tim brown is actually rubbish after all?

Xavi covered that distance in less than 55 minutes on the pitch.

I was having this conversation with the sports scientist for the U17 NZ team and he said those numbers don't really mean much. They did a study of the amount of running each team does during a game for the premierleague and basically the best teams do less running anyway.

SigmUnd talking about an experienced 4 across the back his afternoon in Herald, ie Manny there

"Phoenix defender Ben SigmUnd is backing a settled back four to keep out the free-scoring Roar, and says the team could even end Brisbane's imposing unbeaten record.

The All White returns from his one-week suspension and will take his place alongside Andrew Durante at the heart of the Phoenix defence. With Tony Lochhead and Manny Muscat likely to start in the fullback spots, Ricki Herbert will be able to select his first-choice backline for the first time in three weeks.

The Phoenix defence will be facing a tough ask at Suncorp Stadium, a venue in which the Roar are unbeaten in 20 games, but SigmUnd felt experience at the back gave the Phoenix a chance to upset the champions.

"We've got a really mature back four. We all know each other well enough now and we're looking forward to getting out there and playing together again,'' he said.

I think if there is one mantra in football that seems to actually be adhered to is that "you don't shag about with your back four". So until we find another solid RB we can trust week in week out my money is on Manny staying at RB for the foreseeable future.

Why Not Put Griffiths At RB and Put   Muscat Back In MF. Smith and    Greenacre Up Front.?

Personally I feel that to get anything out of this game we need to keep sanchez central and have free rein across the park. We can't afford him to have to be tracking back all game.

Suncorp stadium has been a graveyard for the Nix....we have never got much out visiting there. You would have to be a supreme optimist to believe we will get anything this time. All the pundits are talking of a easy and big win for the Roar. But if the lads can dig deep and play out of their skins then a miracle draw is possible...if unlikely.
With the two teams below us on the table both with home games and likely to pick up points we are in real danger of finishing this round on the bottom of the table. First of all is the need to avoid a thrashing....goal difference may  count at the season end. This will be a real test of Rickie's ability to coach a defensive effort. I'm picking 1-3...though I would love a draw.

I just hope they play with heart for the 90. Would hate to see the lads heads drop after conceding a couple then we get rolled by > the adelaide margin

Zero is "Nothing" which is exactly the number of players we're likely to have available next week if the FFA continue to give us crap referees!

WE WANT DELOVSKI!!!

Agree with Bertos on the bench & I'm ok with either Paston or Warner, however the RB position gives me the sh..s. How about solidifying that position with Muscat & bringing Browny in. There is no doubt about however that we have to start our team sheet from the back. The roar will be salivating over this one. I can imagine them sitting down right now huddled around waiting for our defesive lineup to be announced, drooling with expectation. I'm over in Brisbane now for the game, who's over here? What pub anyone?

Gillet was actually ok in the last game he reffed us?

it isn't Peter Oleary, Green, Ben Williams, or watisface the cop...so

and Oleary is good, but seems scared of favouring Kiwis at times

Eh.  The meeting prior to that was 4-3 - Italy were favoured but expected to have to work for it.

Also, the Roar are quite a bit younger than Italy.

When I've been watching Griffiths has looked slow and I fear would be shredded at RB.

Also thinkif gonna have any chance playing largely without ball then need someone with speed up front to exploit space in behind their wing backs. So I would like to see smith (I think he has gas anyway) given a run at the point. I can't think of anyone else with any real speed in squad, and smith is meant to be a striker, so if ever a game to roll the dice a bit ...

Exactly this. I would love us to either draw or beat the Roar, but if they hammer home 5 unanswered goals, my fantasy points balance will be much better off.
