i noticed that, someone posted... "i think we should give Kwasnik a try again" now he is in everyones line ups...

But now that i think of it, it wouldn't be such a bad game to give him another try!

kwasnik might thrive with Fred to put balls into his path, but otherwise seems to lack the presence to make much of a difference

I'm for keeping Ferrante in the team for now. When on song he is our best distributor of the ball.
However.
In the absence of Costa and Drapes, who I feel we should be developing more for next season and beyond (provided Drapes stays), I'm putting Kwas on the bench. After all, you don't go from being a good player to a crap player in under a season, and after a few months out, he'll have a point to prove.

I suppose we can take it that Fred will not be back?

That is really a terrible slice  of bad luck for the phoenix(and a tragedy for Fred) He was just starting to gel in the team and make a real difference. To me his loss will be seen as the defining point of the season...a real "what if moment". There has been losts of talk of finding a couple of gun strikers for next season. But for me the most important guy to find is a creative attacking midfielder.we could sign van Nistlerooy but if no one was creating the chances even he would struggle to score. Fred showed glimpses of what a good player in that position can achieve.

I always get nervous when I see Smeltz coming out and holding  the ball, back to goal, 30 metres out. To me he should be box to box....let someone else do the creation....he's there to finish. How often does Leo make play down the flank, look up and then have to pass square or back coz there are bugger all target options in the box. Thats why I hope our lineup for Friday has the person with the most creative skills playing..i.e Daniel.

A box-to-box forward? That's a fairly revolutionary concept...

was going to ask this... If he's not back this week then can't see him bothering to come back for the away game. Has anyone got any updates of what is going on with him??

the home page has still got their 'Fred Effect' campaign up, which I find amusingplaywithFire2008-12-16 23:49:29

What the neck...

Ideally, I would like to see the Mariners line up as

Danny
Porter Pedj Wilko Heff
Gumps Jedi Hutcho
Caceres
Dylan Matty

Saso, Disco Nik, Osman & Redders

Socceroo/ Mariner / Whangarei

It is no mystery that when things go bad on all things Phoenix, the one player we love to hate is Michael Ferrante, whether he is a stand out or not! Just ask Valeo, he has been rubbishing him all year on this forum.

Afterall, all teams need a scapegoat and Ferrante is ours. Maybe it's because he has talent??!!

I've always liked Ferrante. Over the past few weeks it seems like Manny has been the fall guy and, strangely, I've been defending him as well.

Jag, Champion of The Oppressed.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Ferrante deserves less stick than most of the boys (if we were going to whinge about them that is).  He's a great player and I'd pick him above Kwasnik any day.

Completely agree with that but, for whatever reason, I don't think we've seen the best of Kwasnik yet.

He looked good against Waitakere in the friendly but, obviously, Stevie Wonder could have played up front that day and looked good.

What are you on about? I've barely even 'rubbished' Ferrante this season. I have just said that he is too inconsistent- which he is - and often goes missing - which he does. I just don't really see what his role is in the team. Sure, he's a good long passer but he barely ever utilises it. A bit like a cheap Golden Balls. McKain and Brown have been terrific so maybe they have just overshadowed Ferrante.

Why did you pick out me?

I think if you look at the couple van Djik has just pulled out of the bag sometimes there is a case for letting a player gell. We played sh*te at the start of the year and there was no chance for Kwasnik to do that.

He played well against Sydney and got denied a goal by a bad offside call. He scored goals for the coast. Definitely worth a try, but ahead of who and how?

Christie also has been good cover and not the worst when he has got on (though he muffed that tyhrough ball for a breakaway), though not a striking option.

Same starting 11 as Perth game except Daniel to start if fit.

If things had gone our way we could have won Perth game by a couple of goals. It was a superb save and a diving heading that denied us goals and 8 times out of 10 , Smeltz would have nailed that open goal.

I hope Kwasnik replaces Christie on the bench

Dodd is the odd man out on the bench not Christie.

I've never rated Kwasnik tbh. The only time he looked really good last year was against us. (everyone looked good against us last year)

What sort of crowd do you think we will get to the game, with the two for one it should be bigger than usual, thou tbh im struggling to give mine away.   It seems you either go most weeks or you don't really go at all...

Centrebet have got Nix favourites at $2.40, Mariners at $2.85 and the're paying $3.20 for the draw.

Let's hope they are right on the money (excuse the pun) !!
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Blanket man up front instead of Smeltzy?? I think he would be unmarkable and definitely unpredictable. He would smile to the CCM keeper and while the keeper is nodding back he would net a goal or two!

What, like swap his iPod for a 3-bedroom house in Khandallah?

People give him stuff all the time, maybe because they want to make themselves feel better. Although I tried to give him some BK after a drunken night out and he didn't want it.

I personally admire the wild-jungle man look. And as for food, obviously BK isn't to his taste, so if you really want that iPod, you might have to take him something from the White House or Logan Brown.
