It would make sense that that's the problem with NZ keepers, because it's recognized that it's also the problem with women keepers worldwide. (And don't get me started on the problems for NZ women keepers. I'm the only specialist woman keeper at my entire club, which means I don't even get anyone to train with, apart from the strikers taking shots at me.)

But just as Hope Solo shows what a woman keeper can do, let's hope that young Turipa and Gleeson can fly the flag for Kiwi custodians.

You could get a train and walk down.

Buses from petone railway station to eastbourne would probably go past raceway. i think i also read that rail was off this weekend being replaced with buses. There a wellington/eastbourne bus service.
I live not far away in Petone, and the bus is definitely the best bet.  You want to catch an 81 or 83 bus.  The 81 is the much quicker option as it goes via Petone rather than via a long detour through Lower Hutt.  An 81 is scheduled to leave Courtenay Place at 11.50am and to arrive at Hutt Park at 12.15.  If that is cutting it fine, then an 83 leaves at 11.20am and should arrive at 12 noon.

Yeah, definitely get a 81 or 83 bus from Wellington. The trains are usually out for rail upgrade work over the weekends.

If you do get stuck on a train-replacement bus, you'll likely end up at Waterloo Station. It's a pain to get from there to Hutt Park other than via taxi.
You could be cheeky and ask the driver to stop at Hutt Park, since the buses go passed it on the way, but I doubt they would.Ard Righ2010-08-05 13:34:02

If by train. You get off at Woburn and walk thru the horse paddock and down Randwich Rd.

Anyone have any idea's of a possible squad for the u20's and also phoenix for the game?

Is the national u20 team even together or will it be a local team again? It seems the players don't know anything about it.

Should be close to first XI for the Phoenix, similar to what started against Boca, depends on Lochhead's fitness really.
You know we belong together...

There have been camps, gatherings, trials and games in different regions I believe (the Phoenix played a Central U20 side a month ago).  Talk is this side is mostly Auckland based, plus Marco - if he's fit -, Musa and Tane Gent but there could be others as well.

Can't imagine Corey Chettleburgh isn't there for instance.

I have it on good authority that Corey will be playing for the U20's on Saturday. As for the wider squad selection, like everyone else, who knows?

When the Nix played the u20s in the Rappa a couple of seasons ago there was no gate, so I wouldn't expect one tomorrow, surely if they were goilg to charge it would have been held at a ground that would at least offer some form of shelter from our balmy weather we are experiencing at the moment, the numbers attending will be interesting, I heard from the middle toilet this morning that it will be standing room only!!!

All prices at Stopout are very reasonable and won't be raised. I can't see how an entrance fee could be charged as Hutt Park has too much area to patrol - you would need about a kilometer of fencing to do it effectively.

It has been brought to my attention that there seems to be a few queries in regards to this match on Saturday.

The Phoenix have requested that it be kept extremely low key as they can only be involved with a training game and not a scheduled fixture due to their FAA and A-League requirements. There will be no publicity from a NZ Football or Phoenix media channel to ensure no one contravenes the Phoenix's contract.

The players attending the training match are in consideration for the  NZ U20 team to play in the World Cup Qualifiers in April next year. Saturday's team is made up of a  selection of NZ based players only. There are 6 from Auckland, 4 from the Waikato region, 6 from Wellington and 1 out of Christchurch. Some players have not been included or not available due to Winter commitments, flight costs and other logistic issues.

The invitation to play the Phoenix on their bye week has allowed us the opportunity to include some players from Wellington who have come to our attention via scouting networks. This training game will assist us to measure the ability and tactical understanding of these players, playing against a good professional team.

The World Cup Qualifers are not until April next year (changed from January by Oceania) so the campaign is in the final stage of scouting, evaluating and scheduling.

To date the campaign has included a major identification Camp in early July with at least 12 overseas based players attending. Trainings are being held twice weekly, working around winter commitments for the players,  with a much wider squad in Auckland. The Wellington/Manawatu/Napier players train when they can with Andy Hedge. Due to the extreme shortage of training facilities in the Wellington region it isn't easy to schedule a full training diary for these players.

The change to a April qualifying date will allow the NZ Based players to complete a full NZFC season. Any player eligible for this team in NZ can force their way into the squad. This squad will never be a closed off group as players in this age group can improve significantly, both physically and tactically, over an extended period of time.

The majority of the international/overseas players have attended trainings in Auckland whilst they were on their season break. In this age group there are a large number of NZ eligible players playing off shore ranging from the state leagues in Australia right up to European clubs. We need to ensure we have the very best players available to play for NZ in the Qualifiers and this isn't a quick or easy process.

I hope this makes it a bit clearer about the game and activity for the NZ U20 to date. If it is fine under the FFA regulations to release our squad I will update this post.

Sorry Partya I did not intend to offend by my comments I presumed that your club would be using the occasion for a bit of fund raising activity and I was making sure that I did have some change in my pocket, dont ever carry cash as a rule sorry.

Anyway please accept my humble apologies if I have caused offence, which was never intended.

Presume Chris Milicich is the coach of the NZ U20 team and many thanks for the clarifications. Right now, Wellingtonians are mad about their beloevd Wellington Phoenix club and Wellington Phoenix team and any actovity related to WP will stir heaps of interest.

Just leave this low key kick around to them. Play and support your own game, if it is on, that counts.

WP won't field the first team because otherwise, it SHOULDl give the NZ U20 a hiding. NZ U20 won't have all the strongest players and would just field a team. So, keep passing interest becaue NZ U20 SHOULD win the Oceania playoff and real U20 competition starts at the World Cup!!

If you have $50, make sure that you support Wellington Phoenix and you may even get  2 REAL games out of this.

The NZ v Paraguay game is just another kick around, stay at home  and watch it on SKY. NZF has fleeced the kids big time and we don't want more people getting fleeced!

No they haven't.  The scandal in that article is why Birkenhead charge $80-120 more than many Wellington clubs that pay the same $15 levy to NZF per player.

Thanks for that Hard News. When I read that article I thought it was grossly unbalanced. Was pretty sure no one around here was charging that much. Typical biased media reporting. Didnt bother to check whether Birkenheads fees were typical of junior clubs, then compared them with 7 a side nursery grade for league.
Wasters!!

Sounds like that shoulder of Angus Beef has a couple of chips on it.

Whilst there is a big interest in some of the new faces on display in the Phoenix with an U20 World Cup coming up will be interested to see what is there. Unfortunately there will probably be some good under 20's playing for clubs on Saturday who wont be here.

The real big news of the day will be that the Lower Hutt Council will probably actually spend some time preparing the pitch because there may be a camera or two present, if they don't, well  the Stop Out guys could just grab a four wheel drive and rock on down to Petone and bring back the roller that the Petone guys use themselves on match day.

Roll on Saturday!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

LHCC has spent some good money on this pitch already   and it's one of the best in the Hutt when its been raining. WCC should send someone out to see how its done and than maybe Karori Park would be playable.

Watch the video and tell me that her hands are the physical attribute that sticks in your mind. Although she really is great, esp. with the coming off her line.
