thank goodness we only have to suffer through one more "real" home game.  Usually at this stage of the season I'm already thinking about how much I'm going to miss the whole ritual of going to games during the interminably long off-season.  This time round the end can't come soon enough.  <imagine sad emoticon here>

But what an off season we have to look forward to.Or maybe not.

I'll still be just as feverish with anticipation as ever when the next season starts to get within reach - that's the joy of being a football supporter - there's always the hopes and dreams that come with the new season!

Greenacre only has Rickis team to work with.

Schooled under Ricki Herbert, he needs to show some nads and do what has to be done, not what Ricki would do.

But then after a breakup, most people take longer than a week if it meant anything.

I wouldn't expect much from the rest of the season unless Greenacre can get over it and go his own way

thought we were going to break our low crowd record tonight - when we got there about 6.45 it looked like there were more players on the park than spectators in the stands!   Was surprised it was more than 4000.  Still got one more game though .....

Our passing was dire last night, how many times did we end up putting the ball out for a throw? I don't think I've seen a single game where this has happened more than it did last night.

Going 4-1 nix Siggy to get a hat-trick from leo's pinpoint crosses :)

COYN

Right got the score wrong..again.

Managed to find cover at work, done mad dash to town intime to see the kick off and then after 20 minutes thinking i did all that for that.

Poor effort all round, Newcastle are not a good side but last night they wanted to win more. It seemed that they had more players on the field as when they got the ball, players were always in space and had passing options.

Lol at our corner when had 3 in a wall at front post and ball went to there keeper.

We must be the slowest team in the HAL, we made Ruben Z look like a world beater.

Loved the "You're just good score in scrable" chant

Thankfully there is a big break  before our last home game, at least on tele you can, turn off and walk away( have never been able to this, always put myself thru the pain).

onwards and upwards for next season

My heart goes out to you Nix supporters who turned up for the Newcastle game. I went through that diminshed crowds and expectations trudge with the Kingz in their latter stages. It's not fun but you have to keep the faith. You'll really find who are the stalwarts and who are the fair-weather supporters when you're at the bottom of a cycle. You need to support each other through this.

I just hope the Phoenix can rejuvinate themselves next season and that has to start with an experienced A League coach making major changes. Could it not be possible to bring Sereposis on to the board as he proved he had a real passion for the team? Or would that be too awkward for all concerned.

Cheer up - it can only get better.

Where i was sitting a lot of people were getting really angry, Ive never seen as much angst at a Nix game as last night. A whole bunch of guys cheered when Lia was subbed off... the mood wasnt good.

Ive wondered the same thing but i dont think his philosophy would fit with Welnix. Just the other day he pretty much slammed them for whats going on with the club, and was hardly diplomatic about it. Personally Id like to see him back, but it wont be under the current ownership model I dont think.

I'm not really sure that it was Terry's decisions or influence on the club as such that mattered, or hwether he had a particular philosophy that's now gone - he just kept that cheque writing hand out of his pockets most of the time.  That ship has sailed

My partner had organised a meeting with our wedding photographers last night at 8.30.  I was so annoyed when I found out, but by the time I had to turn the telly off I was just relieved I didn't have to watch any more.  Absolutely dire.  The players were ridiculously static when we had the ball, and any attacks invariably ended with an utterly ineffective cross - a mode of attack the Jets were clearly expecting and had structured their defence to cope with.

I don't blame Greenacre, and I have sympathy for the players - who are clearly deeply demoralised and stuck in a rut.  You can't expect things to change overnight.  But unfortunately for us, we are effectively out of time and the season is essentially over.  I just hope the next few games can be something more than just a painful going-through-the-motions.

Not a great game last night, poor passing....thought Lia had a shocker and surprised he wasnt subbed earlier, although Sanchez didnt seem to do much when he came on.  Am looking for a better off season this year when just maybe we might do some decent recruiting

Glad the nail is finally in the coffin for this season.. I sat there barely getting any good vibes off the whole game.  One dimensional, static laboured style of football.  Shame we cant ditch more of the over age players and start again like WSW.  Part of the problem is that I think Nix are viewed by some as AWs feeder team..and to a great extent the last 6 years has contributed greatly to the national teams development.  Most of current team are simply not up to the A league standard... anymore?.

The endless procession of long balls to static forward line..literally was mind numbing as was teh pass back then get it straight back.  Why not have checked for space and time and simply carried it in first place?.

Three home games in a row was a chance at redemption even for this team but it just didnt seem to want it of have the ability to take it.  Get on the plane(s) and I will hopefully be happier by the time of the last home game.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Its all my fault, jinx and all that shit.

A disappointing game but of all the things you could say about the team last night, it was not a lack of desire that cost them.

"Schooled under Ricki Herbert, he needs to show some nads and do what has to be done, not what Ricki would do."

Attention JD: this is the kind of person who thinks that Ricki was the only problem. And they'll keep blaming Ricki for the next five years if they can get away with it. It's hard to give up a good scapegoat.

I knew that sacking Ricki, while possibly good in the long term, would made things worse in the short term, which is one reason I wanted no change until the off-season. How many people out there used to say to me "how could it possibly be worse?" Now you have your answer.

Just some Random impertinent questions.

1) Is Moss any better than Paston.

2)What has happened to the pace Leo used to have.

3)Has Leo completely lost the ability to cross a ball.

4)Why does Dura even bother coming forward for a corner, putting aside our shit delivery I can only think of about three times in four years he has actually got his melon anywhere near a corner.

5)Did Siggy win a header against Heskey last night.

6)Does Lochhead have another A League season in him? His form seems to be returning and again was one of our better players last night (certainly defensively)

7)Have opposition teams worked out Leo as a fullback. His early season progress seems to have stalled.

8)How many times did Lia give the ball away. I love the guys effort, but sorry Vinny just gave the ball away too many times.

9)What as happened to the real Manny Muscat. The bloke wearing the number 2 shirt is a pale shadow of his former self.

10) Is Louis Fenton up to A league standard at the moment. He has huge potential but drifts in and out of games and gets knocked off the ball to easily.

11) Is Tyler Boyd really upto A league standard? Will he ever be.

12)Is this the last year we will see Ifill playing? He is so frustrated with his own form at the moment, I would not be surprised if he pulled the pin.

13)Is Corey Gameiro actually Pav in disguise? Would we spend a chunk of cash to keep him at the club?

14)How do we get more out of Brockie? Some terrific goals and our season would be really bad without them but we need some creativity and assists out of him as well.

15) Does Danny Sanchez have his ticket out of Wellington already booked?

16)Will Stein and King Carlos be a good combo.

17) Did anyone seriously expect a significant change in how we have been playing.

No.

It's faded.

3)Has Leo completely lost the ability to cross a ball.

No.

4)Why does Dura even bother coming forward for a corner, putting aside our shit delivery I can only think of about three times in four years he has actually got his melon anywhere near a corner.

To provide an option. Not something we have a lot of.

5)Did Siggy win a header against Heskey last night.

or... did Heskey lose a header to Siggy?

6)Does Lochhead have another A League season in him? His form seems to be returning and again was one of our better players last night (certainly defensively)

Yes.

7)Have opposition teams worked out Leo as a fullback. His early season progress seems to have stalled.

Yes. Though he's also a victim to our incredible disappering midfield.

8)How many times did Lia give the ball away. I love the guys effort, but sorry Vinny just gave the ball away too many times.

Whatu (many).

9)What as happened to the real Manny Muscat. The bloke wearing the number 2 shirt is a pale shadow of his former self.

He's not a happy Manny.

10) Is Louis Fenton up to A league standard at the moment. He has huge potential but drifts in and out of games and gets knocked off the ball to easily.

Stick with him.

11) Is Tyler Boyd really upto A league standard? Will he ever be.

He needs to score some goals, for someone, anywhere... and then yes, he will be.

12)Is this the last year we will see Ifill playing? He is so frustrated with his own form at the moment, I would not be surprised if he pulled the pin.

He'll play next year. Somewhere.

13)Is Corey Gameiro actually Pav in disguise? Would we spend a chunk of cash to keep him at the club?

No (x2).

14)How do we get more out of Brockie? Some terrific goals and our season would be really bad without them but we need some creativity and assists out of him as well.

We get a midfield.

15) Does Danny Sanchez have his ticket out of Wellington already booked?

Hopefully.

16)Will Stein and King Carlos be a good combo.

If we can get another good midfielder, yes. Very.

17) Did anyone seriously expect a significant change in how we have been playing.

No.

Kent Johns on radio sport this morning said that the yellow fever boo'd the nix off the park at half time last night. I was there but was getting food/drinks at half time. I'm almost sure this wouldn't have happened, more likely booing Newcastle or the refs if anything but can someone confirm?

Might have been a couple booing (as usual), but most of that was aimed at Refs and Jets. Non story really.

There were some boos but they stopped pretty quickly and I'm not sure who they were aimed at.

4)Why does Dura even bother coming forward for a corner, putting aside our shit delivery I can only think of about three times in four years he has actually got his melon anywhere near a corner. I concur

5)Did Siggy win a header against Heskey last night. yes - once. he was three steps behind him and Heskey mistimed his jump.

6)Does Lochhead have another A League season in him? His form seems to be returning and again was one of our better players last night (certainly defensively) no - he's a donkey - his form last night was no different - the others were just extra poor.

10) Is Louis Fenton up to A league standard at the moment. He has huge potential but drifts in and out of games and gets knocked off the ball to easily. No more or less than any other Phoenix player at the moment.

My view is that while he has his faults, he is still the best option in New Zealand. He went through a rough patch earlier in the year but has come back to being pretty dependable defensively. I would certainlty say he has another year left in him, probably at reduced rate to what he is presently earning, but he is a long way from being the biggest problem out squad presently has
