This is weird! A week ago I was gagging for the start of the season.

Got my season tickets sorted, rounding up people for 16 Oct and 19 Nov. Washed all my gear and I'm all set....

This week I'm barely getting excited about this Sunday. Have I peaked too soon?

Pretty sure it will pick up come 16 Oct, but for now I feel like I'm in a holding pattern (& waiting for the 20th signing to be announced).

So much this. I think for me, a few weeks/months back I really wanted the attention to turn back to the football rather than financial crap, but now, only days out from it all starting up again, I'm a bit nervous about our chances because of injuries and lack of signings. I'm sure I'll come right.

Unfortunately going to miss this one as I'm going to the ABs, but I'll certainly be following it while I'm there. Three points would be awesome!

ummmmm im prety sure sanchez is a new signing which you have right there in your midfield...yes maybe rethink that comment a lil.

Meant the ones this week, Griffiths and Ward or anyone else like Smith who signs between now and game day.

This is a laugh, from the A League preview of the game, about as light as you could get.

I bet Ifill has not had this label before -  "Talismanic" - which means "Possessing or believed to possess magic power."  Weave your magic for us on Sunday Iffy

"With the departure of Jason Culina, Shane Smeltz, Bruce Djite and Dino Djulbic, the stage is set for Dylan MacAllister to pop up with some goals, and also for talented striker Ben Halloran to step up.

Indeed, this season seems to be all about blooding the youngsters for Miron Bleiberg, with the likes of Chris Harold, Chris Broadfoot and Zach Anderson all making the transition from youth teamers to full-squad members.

This could be a really exciting time for United fans, as their young guns get a big chance to prove themselves. We saw how well that worked for Central Coast Mariners last season, so why not at Skilled Park? With imports Paul Beekmans and Peter Jungschlager also joining the squad, United are sure to cause teams plenty of problems this season.

A defensively outstanding pre-season for Central Coast will breed confidence. Their fine Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season was built on a stingy back-line, and that looks set to continue, which isn't good news for this Sunday's opponents, who need all the help they can get when playing away from home.

Wellington Phoenix simply don't travel well so they might not fancy starting their season with a trip to the Gold Coast. Still, a new season means a new start, so perhaps they can break their away jinx on the very first day of the season.

Joining their talismanic leader Paul Ifill are new signings Nik Tsattalios, Jimmy Downey, Dani Sanchez, Tony Warner and Lucas Pantelis. With Perth Glory defender Brent Griffiths also recently arriving on a one-year deal, the squad is taking shape.

Despite their poor record on the road, Phoenix still made it to the finals last season, so if they can just start picking up points on the road, who knows what they can achieve?

This match-up is as even as they come. Of their six meetings in the Hyundai A-League, both sides have two wins each and there have been two draws. The good news for The Beach is that both of those two United wins came in the matches played on the Gold Coast last season, so they'll be confident of a similar outcome.

It'll be oval ball on the TV at my place, silly families don't have their priorities right. I'm relying on finding a live stream somewhere to watch it on the laptop.

No. RYOS is your best bet, but not sure if Phil would be able to get the shirt to you on time.

You wouldn't believe how excited I got when I saw the boxes inside marked "Phoenix Wellington" before the store had opened.
And my utter disappointment when THIS opened up!

Surely the battle is between Ward & Dirty Sanchez for a starting spot in the creative midfield role. Will be an interesting battle there for a starting place.

If you mentioned the term "drop Brown" to RH he'd probably laugh at your toilet humour

could Ward play up front for us?
Did it a few times for the Tards,

cos in a team not packed with goal scorers both Brown and Sanchez have a bit of a record...martinb2011-10-06 17:21:28

Well considering Sanchez has trained his arse off for several months now just to be here then I reckon he thoroughly deserves to get the first go at it.

They won't rush Ward in this close to signing him, I'd assume.

They tend to switch during the game quite a bit.

This is a hopeful team IMO not actually that bad with Smith and Lindsay to come...if Ward and Daniel can bring some impact, Ifill can barnstorm and Bertos can find a smidgeon of himself. Then only 3-4 bonus goals from Sanchez/Brown to seal it...

Greenie can be an enigma wrapped in a riddle...

Squad has too many weak fullbacks and not enough good goalscorers...we are missing our D-Mac/Daddi/Caceres type...hopefully Lindsay or Smith can add a lot to the team

feeling hopeful about this team...not the worst that could have happened...

Jeez Deloras. It's a bit early to be sticking the boot into him just yet, don't you think? He hasn't even got a league appearance yet. What makes you think he's goona turn on us?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.
