We need to have more of an attacking mindset, but clearly need to solidify the defence. It's Perth at home and the first time in stripes so how about we go all out Ricky. Lets see this happen:

               Paston

Manny     Dura   Siggy     Lia/Lochead

            McKain

    Diego       Costa     Bertos

        Ifill
              Greenacre

Subs
Daniel
Lia/Lochead
Crowther
Brown

Costa is due. He is our most explosive player, get him in there. Hopefully the defence lapses were just early season jitters.

The sooner Fred gets back here the better!
To those negative bastards that start to bag the team after a close loss maybe you should go watch a team that is expected to win ie the All Blacks.... oh wait they are losing too!!!!

Phoenix through and through. It's the joys of being a faithful supporter- it just maks you appreciate it more when we win

Hearfield should be in there instead of Costa, with Diego central. Apart from that I agree though. (Lochhead>Lia).  Arsenal2009-08-09 21:52:13

 Bertos                            Hearfield
                   Diego

           Ifill       Greenacre

Crowther
Two of Lia/Brown/Ferrante/Daniel
Costa

TBF I missed much of the game tonight, but It's clear that the combinations in defence and attack need building up and creativity is required in midfield.

1-0 Nix, Ifill.

Next game is the chance to show the lads some ROF support.

Agreed. Though i'd be tempted to drop a woeful Durante and put McKain in there with Brown at DM. Obviously wouldn't help combinations but it's not like Siggy and Dura haven't played together enough - I just simply don't think Dura is very good.

I agree with that lineup. Maybe try Muscat in the centre because we need McKain in midfield. But definitely not Brown.

I want an offensive style play but I hate that Ricki will play Brown no matter what. Would love to be proved wrong, but he will start Brown again.. it makes no sense to me how he thought it would work today

Anyway, I'll  be buying my 9 tickets this week so I really hope the nix impress all these casuals I am bringing

Once Diego is fit enough to start I think he will play, Ricki knows that we're going to need that creativity if signing 3 new strikers is going to be of any use. Remember he wasn't afraid to play attacking football in season 1.

what about something radical like Bertos as attacking mid? He seems to be more of a playmaker than the rest
I like tautologies because I like them.

I trust in Ricky. I  am sure he will choose the best line-up. After all, he did very well yesterday. Coming back from 2-0 is never easy, but the lads did it well. Then they were lucky to get the winner.

Perth have improved their team a lot over the off season, but this doesn't mean anything per se. New players take time to adapt, blend in etc.

Also, I think the Nix play a lot better at home for the simple fact that we push them to give 200% for the whole 90min. So I am very much looking forward to the game.

Just a question. Was Costa not on the bench yesterday? Is he injured/not fit?
If he was fine, I would have given him a run in the last 10' for Greenacre. Just my 2 cents worth. But keep it up boys! it's a long season!

I think that would be good to try as well.

Bertos had great assists against the Jets, so it makes sense to use that ability as much as possible.

Oh, and if Ricky selects Brown to start, then we're going to suffer. Brown never put his hand up to take the ball and do anything in the Jets game.

We can't have players go AWOL in the middle of the field.

I actually had this same thought during the game last night - don't know if it was all the beer talking or what. But Leo looked good in central attacking positions, and with a few other wide players in the squad, this could work.

But don't think it'll happen.

just because we got Ifill in to play striker doesn't mean we cant play him in attacking midfield, especially when we don't have any injuries. From what i seen in the Jets game he's quite fast. Also for defence i think they should save the offside trap for another day.

dunno just trying to think of something a little bit different. Good Luck to the boys this weekend!

Try "radical"after obvious has been tried and not worked. Play Diego there.

Agree with that team. Ferrante and Diego will supply good ball for the strikers. Ifill and Greenacre were living off scraps on Sunday.

Agree with that lineup but Durante's going to have to train hard and play out of his skin.  I don't want to see Brown on the field this week, he's a good player but needs to earn his spot and not get it due to reputation (with Herbert).

"what about something radical like Bertos as attacking mid? He seems to be more of a playmaker than the rest"

Not a bad idea.  When Bertos intercepted the pass and ran forward, setting up our second goal that was beautiful.  He was there, drawing the defence to him and Greenacre ahead of him to the right and Ifill to the left.  It was real class.  The type of thing you see when playing FIFA 2005.

Supplying good ball for the ballboys, maybe.

Well maybe not directly, but he hits the ball to the guys on the flanks ok. Maybe they were his shots......

My line up as follows - saw nothing different from lockhead than last season - he needs to serve time on the bench - siggy not ideal at left back but i think he wil give more than lockhead - cannot play McKain / Brown in middle of the park

                Paston

         Dura         McKain
Manny                           Siggy

                   Brown
 Bertos                            Hearfield
                   Diego

           Ifill       Greenacre

You'd want to swap Manny and Siggy.  Manny can play either side...  still you have only named a 9 man outfield.

                    Paston
Manny Sigmund McKain  Lochead

Hearfield     Ferrante      Bertos

                 Diego

          Ifil                 Greenacre

Ferrante has the best passing range at the nix, doesn't score goals, but with the players at our disposal he shouldn't have to. Also he has an excellent workrate and will track back and defend. We need Diego's creativity in the center for our strikers and also to provide an option when Bertos and Hearfiled come infield from the flanks.

I want this

Paston
Many Siggy Mr long ball Lochhead
  Hearfield Brown Bertos
               Ifill
 Chen              Greenacre

From memory Ifill is a natural Attacking mid right? Get chen up front and stick ifill in the centre to get some decent go forward ball.

Anyone agree/disagree?
