Hoping for 12+ thousand but 8-9 would probably be worth applause all things considered.
You know we belong together...

I thought about that when I saw him rampaging through the centre, but I also liked him being given free range licence at the front, with 3 across the front.

anyway. this team is based on something Scottishboy said-

                                       Paston

Muscat          Durante      Sigmund        Lochead

                             McKain
Costa                                                   Leo
                             Ifill
                      Greenacre  Chen

Bench
Hearfield (not impressed- he can and must play better for our season to fire. Benching him would be a good notice not to expect a starting berth. Plus I think Costa deserves a run)
Lia
Diego (gotta give him a chance- haven't seen muh yet and Ifill will probably tire)
Crowther

Brown can bounce back. Possibly include him instead of Lia. He probably should play, because I thin he is a key player for our season. with Ifill G and Costa up front.

What? Diego played DM or AM at Adelaide, did he not?

He's not natural for the position I mentioned as Leo possibly playing behind the forwards, Diego likes to play a bit deeper.

well he kinda agreed with what I'd been thinking which was Ifill as a role between midfield and strikers, with a bit of licence...

Exactly. I don't get why we have a natural attacking mid playing upfront when we have Chen/Costa in the wings.

Ifill was played wide but has said he prefers a more central position such as CF

gotcha

no need for a major shake up in game 2 by bringing in a guy who has been in the squad two minutes and prob doesnt even speak English. You cant have a free role in a two man centre mid. Swap Brown for Daniel. Hearfield is decent value

No to Brown and Daniel, McKain has to be there.

Agree with everything else.

Have another read EG, sawp Brown for Daniel, not Brown AND Daniel.

Feverish, you mean Diego and English ?

He's pretty much American.

why does herbert favour brown so much? I haven't seen him perform greatly in the last 2 seasons.

all I saw of brown yesterday was him given away my count of 5 penalties but probably more ( sure felt like it).

why doesn't he change him?

can anyone answer me that? hmmm

All Whites vice-captain and also an All Whites starting 11 player.

perhaps also that he was (correct me if I'm wrong) but the second or third highest goal scorer last season...not saying a lot but he played some pretty crucial minutes last year.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Yeah good point he gets the goals when we need them and also offered - last year - the passion we lacked so much.

and therein lieth the problem of having two jobs/two roles...the Phoenix are in part the feeder club for the AWs and without  a reserve league players will not get match time.  I would definately give Costa a start as we need creativtyand it wasnt in evidence much. Costa can take players on ..and if it doesnt work sub him.  It was realised too late last year that he was capable.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Would rather have costa on the bench to come on to run at tired players around the 60 min mark if we're losing/drawing

what game was i watching ?

the nix vs jets game

and what did i see ?

i saw Paston have a shocker.

the first goal he could have done a lot better. (put his arms up BEFORE THE BALL WAS KICKED ??)

the second goal - parried right into the jets player's path. Again, could have done a lot better.(you know CATCH THE BALL ??? that is what keepers do. What he GETS PAID TO DO, it's called good ball handling)

the third goal guess what ? HE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER (he was WAY TO SLOW to react, and it wasn't even like it was a powerful header. it was very weak)

and as i have said before - why is he glued to the goal line ???????????????????????????

P.S -  i have watched these goals a few times over (i have mysky hdi)

O dear.
Goal 1: One on one.  end of.
Goal 2:  Free shot from 18 yards.
Goal 3: Free header.

Poor defender in each case.

Alright:

                            Paston
Muscat         Dura           Siggy            Lochead

     Diego         Hearfield/Daniel       Bertos

                           Ifill
Greenacre                               Chen

Could swap Ifill and Chen around.

Sorry Tory but that midfield is way too lightweight... Sterjovski will walk around like Vignaroli did on Sunday.  That's what we call a Football Manager line-up, in real life we might score 3, but Perth would score 7.

Paston didn't have a shocker and was far from the worst.

Last year our season turned around with Brown and McKain in midfield. The defence was strong and it started from the midfield. We controlled possession. No one had any time. Brown scored a few and generally played reasonably to fairly well. Scored a crucial winner and an equaliser.

He will bounce back, and despite the team I suggested he probably should play, and must at the least be on the bench.

would love to see Costa play. He made Costanzo's life a misery last year and I think everyone in Yellow Fever wants to see him given a fair run early on this year. One game at the end will see riots. Rohas too needs to be in the frame if the attack is as limp as this the whole way. Mix experience with exuberance and energy. Have the guts to make Hearfield, Greenacre or Ifill wait on the bench if they don't come out all guns blazing. I think the pressure on the defence from Dodd last year made it good, and there is no harm doing the same thing with the attack.

Also perhaps the same for Durante/Lochead on the bench. Surely Lia and Mckain can slip into the back line, and Diego the middle of the park...

There's something to be said for continuity and showing players you have faith in them...but only Leo showed up at the last game. Not good enough.

I agree prof, thats not saying alot. Don't we need more than just a few "crucial minutes" out of a player in a season? The way we played last year anygoal was going to be crucial. They always are, even if we were leading 6-0.
We always need goals wellynixfan, anytimes good and if he is just there for passion we might as well get some of the yellow fever playing, passion in spades.  , and from what I've seen, of the Nix maybe some better players?
They need a leader, preferably on and off the pitch.
Maybe Siggy and Bertos should give the team talk.
1st home game, wish I was there,

                    Paston
Manny   Dura    Siggy  Lochhead
                    McKain
Hearfield                     Bertos
                    Diego
            Ifill             Greenacre

Crowther
Costa

Costa should have been there. Not taking him when we were playing 4-4-2, and having no strikers on the bench makes me wonder if he's in the plans this season. Hope so. Also hope Ifill is better than my first impressions of him. Not that I want to write him off based on that.

I don't think the defence can blame Paston. But I also don't think Paston can fully be exonerated because the defence did bad. I personally Paston could've done better. Needed to make himself big for first goal, and I don't think the shot before the second goal was that vicious. Decent. That there was no marker on him doesn't make a difference as to whether he should have held it. The defence can definately do better, but Paston seems to often let in weak goals. That's why when he got a go in previous seasons he got dropped pretty fast (as well as Moss being awesome).
