I know Taylor Hall Jones (who is 16) is playing, so it's not likely to be full squads on either side.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

What's his first name?

Three last names, he's got three last na-mes, he's got three last na-mes.

Correctly it should have been Taylor Hall-Jones.

Good lad, plays for Lower Hutt 1st/2nd team.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Don't know, just getting text updates.

Apparently Chen played, and looked good, but has been substituted. If I find out anything more, will post.

Costa's first was a nice strike outside the box, and second he was taken down inside box and slotted penalty.

Quite a few changes in second half with a bunch of youngsters coming on.  No idea who they were.

Rojas looked great again, he has some serious wheels.
Chen was a little disappointing I thought - he's a fiesty physical little bastard but didn't do all that much.
Ferrante dominated midfield and plenty of nice touches from Diego and Caceras.
Mulligan looked great too.

The Trent guy at the back was an absolute giant.  Did well.  Any one any idea who he is?  Are we actually looking at signing him?

For Team Welly Greg Draper and Hicham Kamri started up front and played the whole first half.  Didn't know anyone else.

sounds like Trent Watson if he was 9 foot tall. TDub might be looking at him, thats it though. He is currently on board the sinking Titanic (Wgtn Utd)

Scott would be good defensive cover...

He's been with the Phoenix on and off since the start of pre-season so I imagine that's how they think as well.

Hall-Jones replace Party all the time when he and Chen came off about 10 minutes in to the 2nd half.  'Ginger' Ben Fredrikson replaced Caceras (maybe) and another Coll lad replaced Chen.

South African 18yo replaced Marco who left with ankle bork after someone went through the back of him (possible Birchy - I can see you're all shocked).

All the Phoenix squad and staff in attendance for a while and pretty hungover Right Barbarouses and Jimmy the boot hding in a car with Super Leo.

Second half TeeDubs changed McPeake for Gleeson and the front two for Fifi and Richie McClay and what looked like half of Wellington United (no, I have no idea why).

I think he replaced Chen as he was playing up front.

Not a Coll lad. It was Justin Gully who slotted into midfield with Ferrante.

Was the reason for having so many "schoolboy trialists" almost to see if those players would be up to the standard of a Phoenix youth team if one was introduced next year?

Don't think so, they train with them to make up the numbers quite often as well.  It will have more to do with the fact that we have 11 starting players who aren't involved, McKain injured so that leaves us with only 9, plus the weekend subs (possibly) and injuries won't play a full game so they need some cover and these lads are there already.

Although one Phoenix staffer said shame we can't watch this in the NZFC every second week.

For me, Rojas and Mulligan were the standouts for the Phoenix.
Costa did well too.
Crowther made a spectacular save, and looked fairly solid back there.

I agree Bevan,
credit to Mulligan who's a true professional. I was the first to sl*g him off when he wasn't performing, but perhaps the time for another chance has come? (I know I'm being controversial here). Thing is, the lad has pace, he's got a great cross and is an All White. It could just be that he has screwed up a bunch of games last year, let's give him another go I say! If and when Manny isn't available I'd play him. I don't think that Lia will ever play RB again, by the sound of it he's switched to CM.

Just a note on Chen, yeah he's got attitute and he tried hard, but he didn't impress me at all. Looked short, pudgy and pretty average. But I don't think it's fair to judge him after only one [training] game.

If anything, yesterday's game showed what we've been seeing in the A-League:
Crowther is a good cover for Paston
Mulli hasn't played in ages so doesn't count but he's pushing through the ranks I tell ya
Diego's got so much skills but his last touch lets him down and isn't in form, hence he's not playing
Ferrante lost about 10 balls in the second half only

That is not only controvertial, I think you'd find that has never been said about D Mulligan ever in the history of the universe.

Trent has also played several seasons for Manawatu in National League, dating back to North Island League in the late 90's and has been one of their standout players

Mulligan was allegedly Mom in preseason. Chance for redemption? Mulligan maybe>= Ferrante? in the frame with injuries?

No, he was talked up and possibly MOTM following 1 of the 9 or 10 pre-season matches.

Could be given a chance if we're desperate, but only in central midfield. Never again at right back.

Allegedly

Dude, don't worry about Mulligan. He's never gonna play for the Phoenix again (unless a disaster of biblical proportions befalls us).

See loz, this is where you fall down... the uproar last year from the likes of you when the length of the NZFC was reduced was HUGE, yet here is a chance for the sides to play more games and you want to slag it.

With the Phoenix saying they don't expect O-League places out of it, what negatives for Auckland are there in having a Phoenix reserves side in the NZFC ?
