I don't think we should be too scared of Victory. Other than Rojas, Archie, Traore, Finkler (who is out), and to a lesser extent Nabout, they haven't been playing all that well. I think our best way of playing them is to press when their defenders have it, you are likely to turn over ball high up the field, but then the defense has to drop more quickly when/if they get it through to their midfield and not under immediate pressure. It was that second part we didn't do against them in the earlier round and they got in behind us far too easily. This is the sort of game I would even consider playing 3 at the back, Melbourne aren't playing any genuine strikers so having 4 back there will be leaving dead players a lot.

happy manny only got 3. still a silly thing to do. id be happy to see smith back in the engine, hes very useful on the end of our long balls. totori or waffles? i dunno, i wanna say totori, but id imagine, waffles maybe be a safer bet, as we are coached by nothing-outrageous-Ricki. still I cant wait to see how we go. we were solid for a chunk last week, if we can take that, cut out the bullshit ball control in the middle, paston plays another blinder we can be in here with a chance.
im predicting goals, and unfortunately cards.
also interesting to see how Ange arranges his midfield now he will be missing gui.
Will he add another attacking minded player or look to stabilise the midfield?
Wouldn't be surprised if Celeski came in for Finkler with Milligan coming back in next to Bru - Nabbout can't run out a game yet; 60 mins and hes spent.
MV will look a lot better with Milligan back; has been one of their best this season.

Could work except Bru has been really crap. Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't even make it onto the bench. It's a decent point about fitness because Flores has been struggling as well. If Nabout does start just playing it around at the back is a decent tactic. Pretty sure he will try to run everything down hard.
Edit - it would probably be Broxham ahead of Bru and is an option.
yeah milligan easily been one of their best - also interesting to see if they do go for a replacement for finkler - and whether they would look at a defender - or even if they can pull in jade north as was rumoured
is jade north like some kind of alaegue yoyo?. they probably will try and get a new keeper, they've only got 3 on their books. or is it 4 now
apparently huysegems starting as well.
442 formation
Uncle gareth wont be happy we arent playing attacking football

Didn't Manny Moosecat just get 3 weeks off for "Attacking" football?

We will have a much higher pass completion rate with Smith in midfield

Jason pine said they are having huysegems brockie and.... Totori up front. Fenton to drop into midfield. So still 4-3-3

With knowing Totori and huysegems starting i would go:
GK: PASTON
RB: LINDSAY
CB: SIGMUND
LB: DURANTE
DM: LIA
RM: BERTOS
CM: SANCHEZ
LM: FENTON
AM: TOTORI
ST: HYSEGEMS
ST: BROCKIE
Now Iknow that it looks like a wobbly back line but Dura is better playing even at lb then Mr slowmo. And give Lindsay a go against victory. If he stuffs up then so what. Everyone knew it would be a tough ask. Better than stuffing up against like the heart. As for Totori playing a central attacking role, he's a dangerous runner why not give him a chance to take on the soul of their defense. Would provide better attacking chances than taking on the flanks. Also give bertos another go in midfield
Can't see Durante being played anywhere but CD
152nd match for Herbert. Will become most capped gaffer in A-League history!

Starting line up announced:
Mark Paston, Leo Bertos, Andrew Durante (captain), Ben Sigmund, Tony Lochhead, Louis Fenton, Vince Lia, Dani Sanchez, Benji Totori, Jeremy Brockie, Stein Huysegems. Substitutes: Alex Smith, Cameron Lindsay, Michael Boxall, Griffin McMaster.
If we are playing with two up front my instinct is that they should be Huygesems and Fenton.
* Fenton is a better aerial target than Brockie in spite of being shorter
* Brockie has the better long range shot
* Brockie and Huygesems have never seemed to gel that much as strike partners, so best to try another combo
Really the only reason you wouldn't do this is that Brockie doesn't seem particularly keen on being part of the midfield game. That's no excuse!

gonna be a very free flowing game by the sounds of it. Hopefully Dani tracks back. Fenton is pretty good at tracking back so I suppose we won't be as open as it might look on paper. Looking forward to this, nice to see us going on the attack away from home.
