waitak midfield outclassed....paul seaman probably the only player in waitak to look even close to the standard.

came for the second half to see drapers two and covs well placed shot - christie again with the goods amazing curler from the edge of the box, he must be wondering why hes not getting any game time he certainly isnt doing anything wrong.... im not a big fan of christie but he seems to be putting his hand up.

muscat looked energetic and willing to go for any 5050's etc..

dodd was class at the back so calm and collected didnt let anyone through.......

bertos stripped a couple of players with his pace.

all round a pretty convincing performance, waitak had nothing but long balls and misscommunication.

Phoenix thump Waitakere 7-0 NZPA - November 15, 2008, 6:39 pm http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/news/article/-/5147987

Wellington Phoenix underlined the gulf between professional and amateur soccer teams by thumping Waitakere United 7-0 in Auckland today.

The A-League side led 3-0 at halftime and continued to dominate, with Adam Kwasnik, Greg Draper and Jeremy Christie all netting twice to complement another goal from Vaughan Coveny.

formation was 442 but personell always changing.

Mulligan again with a couple of searching balls down the line but nothing to be excited about, his talents lie somewhere between nzfc and the a-league....kinda like paul urlovic....

daniel was frustrating to watch again little flicks that dont come off and then saunters back to his feet looking dissinterested.......thinks he's too cool or something..

Starting 11 was:

Moss, Muscat, Durante, Dodd, Mulligan, Johnson, Christie, Daniel, Bertos, Hearfield, Kwasnik

Costa, Coveny, Sigmund, McKain, Draper and Paston all came off the bench.

Men against boys. we pissed it without getting out of second gear. Muscat, Durante and Dodd didn't give Totori a sniff. Only disappointment for me was Mulligan, who was mud. Again.

Oh, and the Nix hammered home a couple of points today:

1. Just in case the happyteds of this world doubted it, there is a huge gulf between NZFC and the A League. As someone said to me tonight about Waitak when he heard today's result: "Ladies and Gentlemen, here are your Oceania Champions"

2. To Billy "Why didn't the Nix sign Benjamin Totori, he's A League quality" Harris. That little theory was blown to bits today wasn't it Billy?

absolutely dude.......Costa looked better than Totori in every area. I don't think he has the ability to pass a player like Leo or Costa does - as someone said earlier the Nix didnt even get out of 1st gear and still looked the far better team.

I doubt it given that City were down in the Waikato today at around the same time.

Three for me, and two for them.

Yep, this result just goes to show even further what a joke it is that Y-Tak are going to the World Club Championship, while the best club in Oceania can't even get a sniff.

Stoopid. A performance like that at CWC, and the Oceania spot at that tourney is gone-ski.

If NZFC or OFC can't get a some sort of regular professional league going, then just kiss the CWC spot goodbye and the O-league winner only gets participation in maybe in the ACL, if the AFC is merciful enough. (but I doubt it).

I hope that Waitakere gets a big lesson of out this.

So at the professional level. . . .can they

1.) create good spells of possession? No
2.) play one touch football? No
3.) play short pass football? No
4.) shoot on target? No
5.) create attacking set plays? No

Should they be in the CWC? No

The truth hurts, but this is sad. A month to go, and Waitakere are not capable to pull an upset. I want Waitakere to do NZ proud but, it's all madness. Adelaide will look at this results and play attack, attack, attack when the whistle goes at the CWC, unlike the Iranian side at last years CWC.

Professionals are always 9 time more practiced in their game than Amateurs with outside jobs.

Baffling result given Waitakere is a whole heap better than Hawkes Bay and tonight seemed more comfortable than a few weeks back, judging by reports and the score. Alarm bells for Waitakere, but maybe some good form from some of our guys now getting desperate to peform Royal2008-11-15 21:40:01

Waitakere are considered "semi-professional" so I am guessing by that some of their squad are full-time footballers. Either way 7-0 is completely unacceptable.

Semi-pro means you get paid to play football part-time. Given the amount of time Danny Hay spends on the tv I'd say he isn't a full pro anymore. Critical_Lemon2008-11-15 21:56:44

To be fair to Totori, he spent 2/3rds of the game at Left half. Hes a bloody striker Milicich, but yeah, he's not A League quality, not by a long shot. Can't create for others and don't recall him passing to a team mate at all today. Just got the ball at feet and TRIED to run past Muscat who had his number pretty much everytime.

Interestingly enough, the big difference for me was more what the Nix did off the ball rather than with it. They never stopped moving off the ball and making themselves available for their team mates. Waitakere couldn't have made themselves available to a plastic f**k doll.

Overall it didn't seem the Nix were as determined as they were last week against Sydney. Defenders didn't have as much to do either.
Waitak strung some passes together, but didn't take on the Nix defender when they had the ball.

A rough estimate at some ratings:
Moss -9
Nothing wrong there.
Muscat - 7
Excellent determined defending. Does not offer anything going forward though.
Durante - 6
Didn't really notice him so I guess he was solid.
Dodd - 6
Didn't really notice him so I guess he was solid.
Mulligan - 3
Some OK crossing and passing, but overall a little disappointing. Seems more of a midfielder than defender. Didn't seem to tackle at all.
A big difference between him and Lochhead at left back.
Johnson - 5
Didn't notice him much either.
Christie - 7
One awesome goal from outside the box. I was pleased with Plodder, he should at least be on the bench after that performance.
Daniel - 5
Not one of his better games. Tried a few things that didn't come off. Plenty of enthusiasm though.
Good corners too.
Bertos -6
Keen too, some good crosses.
Hearfield -5
Didn't really notice him
Kwasnik -7
Decent game; shame he didn't manage that in the A-League.

Costa - 6
Not as enthusiastic as I've seen him before.
Sometimes seemed to make decisions which resulted in the attack losing momentum.
Draper -7
Good effort. Could replace Smeltz if he continues to improve.

Coveny, Sigmund, McKain, Paston - not on the pitch long enough to rate them.

Probably somebody else can do those better, but I suppose they're better than nothing.

I wonder whether Billy will forget to mention this result. Or whether Milicich still thinks it's 50/50 against adelaide. The thing is this is expected, it's what a team of (relatively) highly paid professionals should do against amateurs. I think AWB's comments about the CWC are valid. Bye bye that spot

comedy chant of the day - "same old westies always..."

http://www.stuff.co.nz/4762713a1823.html

The website of NZFC champions Waitakere United wanted this question answered: "Just how big is the gap to the A-League?"

Against the Phoenix in yesterday's friendly, they got their answer: less the small one they tell you to mind on the London Underground, more a gaping chasm Evel Knievel might look twice at.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

If you're again suggesting we should sign him please stop, whether he played or not his side got thrashed and using an import spot on an NZFC player is hardly good use of resources is it? Wonder if this result's going to have any bearing on next sunday's line-up. From what I've heard Muscat probably should keep his place, and Plodder (as people have mentioned) should probably get a go on the bench.

That's the thing though. we didn't have 11 stand-out performers on the park. It wasn't a sensational 'Nix performance, we just strolled through the game without ever really being in any trouble.

My player ratings for what it's worth:

Moss - 7       (Had virtually bugger all to do. One great save early in the game)
Muscat - 8    (Great game)
Durante - 7  (Strolled through it)
Dodd - 7       (Same as Durante)
Mulligan - 2  (No words can describe what a waste of space I think this person is)
Johnson - 6 (Did the job without catching the eye)
Christie - 7  (2nd goal was an absolute cracker)
Daniel - 5     (Flitted in and out of the game)
Bertos - 6    (Did enough)
Hearfield -5 (Very quiet)
Kwasnik -7   (Took the goals well, made some great off the ball runs, got some good crosses in. Played well)

Costa - 6 (tended to beat the 1st tackle then give the ball away)
Draper -5 (Thought he looked well out of touch, not surprising as he's not getting a lot of game time)

My vote for Chant of The day was the "We Want Cross" effort as the officials went off at half-time.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Why'd they rest both Hay and Emblem? Surely they want their top team to play against the 'Nix?

Would have thought that myself, obviously more interested in NZFC results, understandable but surely they would want to have put on a better display.

Hay probably didnt want to play,  he wouldnt have wanted to be shown up for what he really is.  Never rated him as a player, even when he was at his best.  Fringe player at Leeds,  wouldnt even get on the park these days at the Nix.  Always liked Emblem however,  and like someone commented before NZFC results are more important,  perhaps he has a knock
