Wellington Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos has been forced into an embarassing u-turn over the Wellington franchise's logo.
Media in Australia have compared the Phoenix logo with "something from a 1940s fascist jamboree".
The logo Serepisos unveiled last month features a similar bird, similar draping wings and similar head to Adolf Hilter's Third Reich logo.
The only thing missing is the Nazi swastika.
In another embarassing twist the original logo - designed by the Greek owner's cousin - is strikingly similar to that of Greek side AEK Athens FC.
Both logos are black and yellow and both feature a bird with draping wings.
Last night a Nix source confirmed a reworked logo will be presented to A-League bosses this week before being represented to the public.
I'd hope the FFA aren't listening to a couple of whiners, but it won't surpise me if they are. Hopefully that is the old wings spread logo, not the new Wings incorporated in to the shield one.
As unfortunate as it would be to see the logo changed (I like the current one), the MLS team DC United had to change their initial logo because it was also compared to a nazi symbol. So it isn't a new idea.
The report was yesterday by stuff.co.nz :(

Wait, it is today Sherbert's supposed to announce his new signings right?
Hope he does a good job, I wanna see some quality Aussies announced long with the good kiwis. If Mulligan and/or Vicelich are announced amid the kiwi signings, thats a job very well done. The article about Bertos on the front page gave me a chuckle - in a way theyve done us a favour by keeping Plodder.

It's a shame for you guys and the league that they won't accept the logo. It was by far the best logo of the league. For some reason the FFA only like sh*t logos. So unfortunately I have a feeling your logo will be in line with the rest of them.

I hope the logo is only slightly 'reworked' as stated in the article, they should leave the crest as it is and only change the bird thinghy
I think the logo posted by the above is more likely what it'll be, a lot more 'cartoony'

I was merely pointing about that there was already a thread about the new logo.
So this thread is about the 'NEW' new logo that no-one has even seen yet so it is impossible to even comment on then.
I'll come back when there is something to talk about then. Oh...I won't be able to will I...as the thread will be old by then, and we will all be on another thread by then anyway talking about another new logo.

Agree and agree... The Sunday malcomson strikes again.
People want to be part of a club, not a franchise. Thats why you need a badge or a shield, not a logo. Simple really!

...but if it's the official logo we'll get what Reebok give us.

How can anyone say the Phoenix logo looks like the AEK Athens one? Their one has two heads! If I saw someone walking down the street with two heads I'd be thinking "f**k me that's a bit different, what a freak, someone should put him in a circus" not "hey, that guy looks just like everyone else". After all, if we thought having one head or two heads were the same thing we wouldn't bother splitting up Siamese twins would we?
