LSE or Cambridge??? Tough choices!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Well, that's the whole thing about Ricki's management style that many don't get, he manages "holistically" for a well-gelling team rather than pushing forward the most talented individuals who might not be team players.

cant help but think this was the only way rickis dream brown/lia midfield combo could be broken.  some stunning goals and memories for sure but exciting times for AWs and phoenix

rojas, so special

Where the hell did that come from?

I won't say he is my favourite player (especially as he had a habit of scoring a goal after I had just told everyone why I thought he wasn't playing very well) But it will be odd without him

November 14, 2009...

My favorite Tim Brown memories:

David Chote: "Tim Brown - he love's tackling...his first touch was a bit heavy and put him into a tackle - do you think he did that on purpose?"

Piney: "Tim Brown - flying into a tackle!!!!  He must have had about 4 or 5 Vs at halftime!"

Tim Brown [post-match]: "Oh ####, I was so pissed off [about coming off]."

A friend of mine tells a nice story about Tim giving a talk at his son's school - essentially saying he was living the dream and encouraging kids to pursue theirs but stressing he had never stopped working on his education because he knew sooner or later it would be important.

He was articulate, personable and passionate - had the kids in awe.

Whilst he has had more than a few of us wanting to send out search parties to find him on the pitch he has always been a consummate professional off the park and the epitome of a great club man.

Whilst I'm excited about the prospect of the Nix being rejuvenated with youth, pace, skill and vision I have nothing but the greatest respect for Tim off the park and wish him all the very best.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Will always remember his comments after heading in a late winner earlier this season (cant remember which game, it was away)
He said he was absolutely knackered and he wasnt gunna go up for the free kick, but that he had watched a dvd in which alex ferguson had said the difference between winners and losers was that winners will always strive to win, no matter the situation, and push themselves so they never regret a single moment of the game

so he went up, and scored, and won us the game. Without that moment alone we wouldnt have friday's home playoff

a lot of his goals have decided games

not everyone's kettle of fish but his effort could never be faulted

pick em up, put em down

I f*cken hate grella or whoever that c*nt was that f*cked him in that aussie game

I remember saying in a drunken FB rant, after a football end of season party where I got horribly drunk, that if I could have been ANY player (in another life) I would have been very happy to be Brown.
Well, let me say this again, and I haven't touched a drop tonight.

Tim was a great club man, fittest guy on the paddock, great box-to-box midfielders, scored goals, defended his arse off. Couldn't ask for more.

We are going to miss him big time next year.
You'll see, oh you will see..

Is he not from Glasgow?!?

Wish Tim all the best with the next stage of his life and career and for all the good memories, it's probably good timing for him and Daniel and co to move on and the 'nix to push on again next season.

Was going to post in the last match fred about how Tim did get back to help out in defence and then pushed forward in attack. How he helped win back possession when Lia had been beaten.

Meh. Haters are still gonna hate.

Cheers top man. Best wishes for your studies. Fill yer boots man!

A good servant to the club but it is undoubtedly the right time and I am glad he has jumped because Ricki would never have left him out if he kept playing for another 10 years.

Some good goals and memories, but this season has just not been up to scratch.

Thankyou and goodbye.

I like this from the Herald, really opitimises how humble the guy was.  I wasn't his biggest fan but he seemed a decent guy, a great ambassador for the club.

"Brown has never been one to seek out the limelight and when he made his mind up on where his future lay his gut feeling was that he should keep it to himself and "just drift off in the off season".

"I spoke to Ricki (Herbert) on how I should handle it and he was adamant I should share it with the team," Brown said.

"I told the boys and management team at dinner while we were in Melbourne recently and I'm so glad I did.

"It was good to share it with a bunch of guys who are all real friends as well as team-mates. I thought it would be easy to do till I stood up. It was quite an emotional moment."

Great bloke. Has had his ups and downs in a Nix shirt but don't think anyone can have a bad word to say about his professionalism.

Great team player for both the Nix and the All Whites, I think he is one of those under rated players and we will miss him next season. Heart and soul of the team. All the best Tim and would love to have you back in some role in the future.

Everyone's got their personal favourite Nix moment but one of my best memories is of a bandaged Tim manning up for the penalties in the playoff against Perth. The way he stepped up so calmly and confidently and smashed the ball in still gives me the chills even now.

A great club man and one I will really miss seeing on the park. Best of luck in your new career, Tim!

A big shock for me but glad this announcement was managed to allow us the opportunity to acknowledge Tim on Friday.
All the very best Tim Brown, thanks for your huge commitment to the All Whites and to the Phoenix both on and off the field.
I'm sure Frank Van Hattum will be happy to keep your future seat warm at NZF while you are away, ..once you're all done with running the Wellington Phoenix of course.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Let out a loud "WHAT THE f**k" when read about this. Had to double check I didn't pass out and wake up on 1st April.

I know I've been a critic at times, but am genuinely sad about this announcement. Good Luck to him!

This season has been more than 'up to scratch for me', I was expecting us to be down near the bottom after the whole terry thing, but we're not, Ricki has made us like a bloody dagger wielding midget in a sword fight, we may of had an arm chopped off, but we're gonna keep coming at you.

Well proud of this team and Brown who has been a part of it. Thanks Brown, I owe you a pint.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

well done Tim, you are the heart and soul of this club

a lesser man would have taken the money from his last year of his contract and then when no longer wanted moved on

you have left on your own terms and are a true professional in every sense of the word

Well, that's the whole thing about Ricki's management style that many don't get, he manages "holistically" for a well-gelling team rather than pushing forward the most talented individuals who might not be team players.

Is this based on speaking to people who have worked under him or just your impression?

Brownie is the first genuine Wellington Phoenix legend.

Big job to replace him - he may not be everyone's favourite but a lot of midfielders have come and gone without making the impact that he has during his time at the club.  And he's scored a number of game winning goals.  Plus he suits Ricki's style - we may replace him with a nominally better player but in the end it's also how he fits into the team we have under the coach we have.

thought this was a bad joke when i heard it from my friend. a truley sad day for the club, but good luck to him. he has been a great player for our team and done so much

he gets alot of sh*t, but fact is without him we wouldnt have his goals, and he does seem to score when it matters
