Tonights game was a good game in a way. The like of uncle steven, Douglas and I were watching our fellow greeks Mikey Halakias and George and costa babarouses play for the wellington side against nz under 20's Other familiar names in the wellington side we the likes of new signing Tony Lochead who played a tidy game at left back while the stand out player was Luis Conales zalis malalis wateva his name is from Lower Hutt. He has played 2 seasons at stop out and now is at lower hutt. If he does not count as an import then Phoenix sign him!!!! Herbert also made his guest appearence for 20 mins. This game was taped by some person so hopefully goes on you tube as there was a shot from 30 metres out which hit both side posts!!!! OH And Brockie played.... 20 minutes but came off as his groin hurt... coincidentely it was when herbert came!pavlos82007-05-16 21:40:32

Hey Pavlos,

If you hear about these things let us know mate.  My training was cancelled tonight so I'd have headed out if I'd known it was on.

Thanks for the report.  That lad Luis can play, if he's the one I think he is he used to play for Deportivo Saprissa who went to the World Club Champs the year before last.  At least we know Ricki has seen him now.

ye i was actually thinking about that but got last minute message sorry guyes. If ur not busy monday there will be another game at Ole at 7pm kick off. Apparently Raf Degregorio playing so should be interesting. Lets hope Rickis not too busy to watch at least one half of footy!! He really should be watching the whole game to see some stand outs. I believe he missed that Luis dude come on. He is unbelievable quik and score a great volley. Another player that is young who looks good is a dude called John Baptiste from Auckland he played upfront for the under 20s! Also another Phoenix prospect was Spoonly that goal keeper for under 23's. He also made some great saves.

haha yeah it was a good match. both teams were pretty even. NZ unda20s were given a penalty in the 1st half that was disputable, the ref decided a perfectly clean slide tackle should be punished oh well. and there was a moment where the ref completely snapped and had a tantrum on the field, telling mick waitt to sort out his players "or he [the ref] would".

reminded me of this moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxqR5NPhtLI

I dont think Spoonley wants to go, I have inside info that he'd rather go through the college system in the states

Why would you want to go through the state system instead of oing pro earlier? Makes no sense, unless he's counting on a career ending injury and needs a degree to fall on.

O yes a great entertaining match last night. I felt that Lockhead looked quite solid and calm at the back, but then again, he was playing against under 20's. Brockies so called 'injury' compelled him to come off as soon as herbert came, he was having a sh*tter and guess he didnt want to make any bad impressions.

Yeah spoonly had a good game, looks like someone phoenix should defenatly see to sign up, even if its like a 1-2 year deal for this/next year. I mean the guys only 19 and looks like a great option.

Other than that that lower hutt guy that paclos talked about played well, christiano ronaldo played a while (dont know his name, playes for lower hutt, i think hes 18, pavlos?).

Everyone should come along monday night, good to see some soccer and get in the mood.

That Luis isnt to bad a player, he played with us at Arakura last season in the Sunday League, O and I understand he warmed up for those games on a Saturday with Stop Out.

He's quick and deadly in front of goal but I'm not sure if he's up to A league standard. His first goal is to get into Team Wellington first.

Maybe some of the Central League defenders who played against him last season could comment better on what they think of him.

I watched Luis in the Sunday League Final last year. You could see he was a very good player. Has alot of skill just don't be so sure to let him take a penalty.

Its funny how all these names from the Wellington teams in the Central league but we forget about the very strong Northern League as to some players that are based in the Northern premier league teams should not be forgotton about.

Totally agree with you there Skinny B.
The Northern League is way stronger than what we have down here but remember our guys didnt get much of a look in when the previous teams were based in Auckland so of course the locals are going to pushing them now.
As Ricki is from Auckland and should be aware of the best players up that way I'm sure no one will be overloooked.

O yeah surley the Auckland teams have some strong players, i think its just that because its Wellington Phoenix were fixated in wellington, but i have no doubt that there are classy players up there.

Back to matter at hand, Whos going to go monday night?????

Hi Pavlos,

I am wondering if you would like to raise a Greek Team for the annual Multi Ethnic Soccer tournament in Uooer Hutt. Last year was won by Sudan and trophy presented by MP Paul Swain.
This year tournament will kick off immediately after the Capital soccer season ends i.e 8/09/2007.
You can alsopass this on if you know anyone of the Supporters Club from Italy, Holland, France, England, Scotland that would like their country of origin be represented.

How did Phil (Edgington) Play?
Permalink Permalink
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Re Luis Corrales. Luis has played on the big stage. He played for the Costa Rican side Saprissa against Liverpool in Japan two  (three?) seasons back.

I've seen him twice this season and each time defenders have simply tried to kick him off the park
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Yes Luis Corrales did play on the big stage but it was a different Luis Corrales than the one out here. Just a much better player with the same name.

Wait just a second. Are you sure? Certain? Cos I was under the impression that it was the big stage Corrales that had turned up here...

No that guy is still playing in Central America for Aguila I think.

It is a very common mistake. I remeber someone showing me a video of the guy at the world club champs and they look nothing alike.

Is that tonight then?  Where in Porirua is the Ole Academy?
Permalink Permalink
almost 19 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Take left turn at Porirua turnoff and then left again - as you head towards Mobil (I think it is) then on the right is a turn off to Viard College but its the one next to it for the hospital and weave around towards your right (follow the flood lights).

Ole is on Upper Main drive.

under 20's took it out 3-0 in the end i think after finishing the game strongly. Both teams playing some attractive football. The Barbarosi's looked good. Sam Blackburn the usual tricks. For NZ Roddie Brown was ok in the middle and I think it was Sam Jenkins who stood out at the end.

Yeah I did not think it was a 3-0 type of game as TW looked like a team put together (e.g. lack of communication, misdirected passes, players going for the same ball etc). George Barbarouses stood strong (maybe a point to prove to Stu) while Costa had some class touches. Sam Blackburn looked dangerous with ball at his feet, too much at times but still has got the moves (this kid can't get a start with LHutt)? Mikey Hikalias (pretty sure it was Mikey), Costa and George (the Olympic connection) played well at times too. Eager, Bryce, No.9 and Mike Smith were strong in defence (1st half) while Eager moved to midfield (2nd half) and did well.

I thought Roddy looked good but obviously was missing a target man up front to play off. Boxall and Phil E looked solid enough at the back while Purcell and Sam Peters made some good runs down the flanks. Not sure who No.3 was for 20s but he had some speed in the 1st half but then droppped away in the 2nd half. Roydhouse menaced Costa in the 2nd half but overall 20s put there chances away. chareimos2007-05-21 22:14:57

It was a sh*t game overall! Roydhouse is an absolute dik who needs to get smashed in a tackled and please somone snap his legs i seriously would love that! However Mikey played well costa did at times and i thnk Georgy was noticible as he added a different type of midfielder style into the mix. However blackburn played well at times but still doesnt do the basics at times. A very young team however this time for the wellington side. I thought the half time kick around was the highlight no doubt, some absolutely stunning shots, surely rickys got to have a look at this greek talent.
