What a result last night - superb in terms of 3 points but for me we dodged a bullet.  Newcastle outplayed us - simple as that.  We need to take some action in recruiting new personnel.  It sounds to me if other clubs are already signing new players if the example of Colosimo off to Sydney is anything to go by.

We need to act and quickly.  As difficult as it is to criticise players for my money poor old Steven Old is way out of his depth.  I have been watching him all season and he really does struggle in all aspects of the game.

Not sure what Ricki was thinking when he started him ahead of O'Dor and then not bringing on Johnson earlier when we were 3-1 up but really struggling to pick up midfield runners.  We clearly needed to shut up shop and condense our final third.  Get players behind the ball and shut down the opposition quicker.

This is what good sides do when away from home and riding their luck.

Dodd has been brilliant for us and was a big blow that he was ill last night.  I hope we sign a quality centre back and soon.  Never mind Ben Sigmund what we need is a Craig Moore or Ogonoski (no doubt spelt wrong).

Lets make sure we also send off a fantastic 1st season with a massive turnout on friday!
Remember 4 for $20 Heinekens @ The Thistle on match day - see you there.

dont rule out ben Sigmund, i would be delighted if we got him, i've watched him play, especially against waitakere, he's a cut above the NZFC, commands the middle of defence, and was solid. Waitak only drew with Aucks cuase our keeper dropped the ball into the net

Its a shame also that his own players put him under pressure with crap back passes, does seem like him and some of our other players that he get more than their share of the blame for some of the defensive lapses. Is it his fault that most teams manage to stream through our midfield as if its not there, did he make the rubbish back pass the other week at the cake tin,was it him who let ccm break down the right earlier in the season.
I seem to recall at different times this season Moss,Daniel,Smeltz,Ferrante and others have all had their roles at the club questioned.
While i agree with some of it but not the way its been posted about sometimes, i also love the way some of the players have managed to shove it up their critics with some good performances.Yep sure old made some cockups last nite but i also recall that he managed to save our arse a couple of times but i guess many prefer to forget those.

It was certainly commented that Sigmund had signed for next year!

Queenslander 3x a year.

They said there were rumours that he was going to sign or at least something close to that.

Considering Tony P said they would have signed him in the transfer window if they were allowed, you've got to think that as soon as he's available for signing he will be.

That's justice though for the amount of games we've clearly been in control of and managed to lose due to dodgy reffing, or late defensive lapses

I guess this thread confirms that Old is almost certainly leading the unofficial wooden spoon award for least impressive player of the year. Poor bugger. Hope he's one of those guys who never reads the reviews.

Maybe one of you bored boffins could go back through the YF forum and cook up a statistical analysis of the most-complained-about players. Eg, total against, Old 45%, Elrich 25%, Ferrante 12%, etc, etc. Whoever ends the season with the highest percentage gets  presented with a paper mache stauette of two left-footed boots and a one-way ticket 'down the road'.

Keep those complaints rolling in!

At last a voice of reason. Dont get get me wrong as I'm not a big Old fan but he does seem to cop a lot of blame that I feel is unjustified.

While I don't fully agree with sl*gging off players who have an off game or two (or three or ten), Old really is out of his depth.  And claiming that the fact he is young as a reason to keep persisting is just stupid.

I know there is no better way of learning than playing actual games but they need some way to bring him through without sacrificing the team and results.  If he will be good in 4 or 5 years then pick him in 4 or 5 years.

Send him to the NZFC now to get experience and skills.

You don't see Herbert playing Costa, Draper or Spoonley just because they show promise and will be good in the years to come, their time will come and Old should be in the same basket.

The only difference is we don't have an able replacement(s) for Old.  We definitely need another good quality centre back or go back to playing 4 back there (Christie wasn't that bad other than one f**ked backpass/miskick).  I am really surprised and disappointed that Herbert didn't do something about this in the transfer window, but maybe they have sussed Sigmund for next year and they think he'll be enough so are just hanging out till then.

Steven "Igor" Old. Send him on as an impact player to chop the the opposition players who are playing well.

Not sure what you guys think, but to me he seems to have a nightmare each time he plays. Didnt he trial for Parma at one stage?  Is he going backwards?

the actual story is that he trialled a chicken and parma ham dish, but it never really worked out

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
