Unbelievable. If we don't finish 1 on 1s we're nothing.

The only other 1v1 I can remember, that we've had, Covs miss hit wide.

Ffs so close to Fifth, might end up last.Michael2008-10-26 19:05:06

Bertos is a good player, but his composure in front of goal is about as bad as it gets, missing a one on one happens but it was the same story when he was playing for Perth, with the amount of chances he's had he should of scored at least half a dozen A-League goals by now.

I can forgive Bertos hes not a striker and hasen't played enough recently so his finishing can be put down to that.

It hurts more that Covs hardly ever gets a shot off, and looks for a fowl when he gets the ball near the box. Mind you Leo's miss still hurts, but ballanced with the good he brings tot he team, I'm not going to hang tonight's loss on that one miss.

He can still sprint though he put alot of pressure on Moore and Mundy. He created chances just doesn't seem to be able to finish anything.wellyphoenixfan2008-10-26 19:22:22

which is really what we need, a second striker who is able to finish. And preferably a third as well.

Not a striker? He is an attacking midfielder though! A professional footballer at any level should be burying those chances in their sleep!!

Sorry, no excuses for Bertos, that truly was a shocker.

I would have rather it have fell to ANYONE but Bertos. You just knew what was gonna happen when it fell to him.

But I thought apart from that, Leo did well.

I just hate the fact we can't slot home the easy ones.

Well , I dunno about 'easy' , but we should have scored thats for sure.

What worried me most was that Bertos, with oceans of time, never got settled at all. He looked like a rabbit in the headlights to me.

Not only he really fail to get in under in time to work an easier shot, he never made space to pass it so Smeltz for the tap-in. When he did finally shoot, it was hurried, and obviously not good enough.

Shame, because he offered us more when he came on the second half.

To be fair, Smeltz should have done better with that final minute effort - he had time and the ball was dropping down.

Bertos and Ferrante are well  known as the worst finishers in the league.  They do great stuff with the ball, but never ask them to shoot.

The bigger question is why, knowing this he didn't move the ball to Smeltz.

Thought that myself. But then, when you havn't scored in 4 seasons, and you find youself with heaps of time and noone around, you'd understand him taking a pop with the vision to finally getting that goal.

Bertos-what can i say, he was a good player untill he donned the garb of the phoenix.
I honestly think that he has underachieved this season given his potential as a player.
his set play options are ridiculous and patience is obviously a word he never learnt as a child. however when he does do things well he does them really well.

In saying this i feel that if the rest of the boys learnt this one word we would win games, SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT.

i would rather see 20 shots that threaten but dont score than none as is the norm.

Lockhead great game, Paston aswell, the rest of the boys need to look inwards and pick things up. we are some of the most passionate supporters in the A-league comp, perhaps the boys need to produce some passion of thier own.
also 90 minutes of what we get in extra time would see us winning games by 2, 3 goal margins.

Hard luck boys next week ay.

I just don't find it acceptable, he's a professional footballer, I wouldn't have been so disappointed if it had just of been wide, but HIGH and wide, with heaps of time, let alone the keeper didn't even come to him, is completely unacceptable.

Training???
im sure these guys play enough football as professionals to not blame lack of game time for a one on one miss, if that was the case perhaps a change in career would be better, Maybe the All Blacks would suit him better

Ball played over the top, it looked like about the entire team was offside, somehow Bertos wasn't, collects the ball about 30 yards out, gets to about 8 yards out and tries to place it with his right foot but only succeeds in hammering it miles over the bar with nobody near him. A shocker.

That's a bit harsh - there was a sliding challenge from McLoughlan just as he shot.  Not an excuse though - gotta finish those.

Well, he should've had it buried long before ANYONE got a chance to be anywhere near him, he had all the time in the world!

We missed many chances and many chances didn't go our way. Despite the result, I think we actually played pretty well. And apart from the whistle happy ref, I actually enjoyed the game. Positive, at times.

Gutted about the result obviously, but what are you going to do? It was Queensland's day today, not ours.

Yeah but michael was talking about the 1 v 1 chance and how we were doomed if we couldnt put away chances like that etc etc. When in the end it was ONE chance...and when he accused me of having no passion,i suggested hes the one with a lack of faith.
