Our defence

One really striking thing this year is the poor form of our defence.  Ricki has shown in the past he is strong at organising a team defensively so this is the strangest part of the year for me, and one I find hard to explain away.  

One thought I've had is that the poor form of Siggy and Durante is based on the fact that neither is good at defending against more technical attacking players?  They've always been able to defend really well against teams that attack physically, lots of high balls etc, but we've always looked vulnerable against teams that pass around us - Melbourne and Brisbane especially.  Are we now seeing that type of attack more often in the league, and hence both are struggling a lot more often?  I'm loathe to just say it is bad individual form because we've made loads of really bad mistakes over the whole season

Any other suggestion for why our defence has been so bad?

It's rickis fault. 

Tim brown stopped a lot of attacks in the past from his attacking midfield position. Bring him back.

Not particularly. I agree our defence has been terrible. I question whether it deserves its own thread, as its only going to descend into the usual cycle. 

FYI I think this 'total football' trial, took a lot of players out of position during games and made us disorganised defensively. From then I suggest it has been a confidence thing perhaps? 

Not meant to be angsty.  I'm genuinely interested in why this area has suffered.

I think we lack quality in attack, and we've never been prolific - but in defence we've always been solid and it's probably the one area where other teams would have swapped players with us wholesale.  So interested for some theories as to why it's gone wrong.  Why have simple, individual mistakes crept into our game when in the past we've not made them

 To easy to blame it on just Siggy and Dura,the whole team has been basically pants.Think in the past our defence was helped out by the midfield breaking down many attacks.This season its been what midfield.

I believe that the whole team as a group have been lacking in confidence for  while now, Tony Lochead has had a poor season generally, we have been getting leo to fill the right back slot and he has done a not bad job considering its not his normal position, Siggy has had the odd brain farts and exposed the line on quite a few occassions..oh and we will always have a problem so long as we continue to play up the wings and leave huge fucking gaps in the centre of the park putting more pressure on our defence
