I was walking along the road towards my broken down scooter and I noticed that EVERY SINGLE CAR had a ticket.

Nice work WCC. You didn't get enough money from this event it would seem.

if you park in a 2 hours time limit you run the risk.

i think this is very poor. On the plus side it may mean more people leaving their car at home and getting bladdered.

You kind of get the feeling they went "Oh the games gone into extra time, parking wardens get down there now! $$$"

So much for sensible use of discretion - because there is such a high demand for parking in the city centre on a Sunday evening right enough.

WCC, Tenix and Parkwise - lovely little cash generating enterprise they've got going on.

Wouldn't be surprised if it puts quite a few people off coming back again.

This should be taken up with the Mayor - if she wants to stand in Midland Park and exhort the people of Wellington to get behind the team and go to the game, the council she runs shouldn't then profit from ticketing every car in a 20 min radius of the stadium when it goes into extra time & pens.

It's not that we don't already pay enough for events at the stadium, between the stadium levy in our rates, and the stadioum event levy on our ticket prices. Disgraceful.

WCC is just out for the cash, they do the same at exam time around the uni......pure evil and mean - way to kill off events in this city!

Exam time is more fair,I mean you KNOW how long your exam is going to be,parking in a 2hr spot for a 3hr exam is stupid. These people stalked the parks knowing that if the game went into extra time people would be caught out. Bit of an ethical f**k up really.

if every single fan challenged the tix then WCC would have an admin headache sorting it all out. they might think again before sending out their terriers right on the obvious 2 hour mark, maybe hold them off for another 30-40 minutes?

Fines waived apparently. Chill people. Council have seen the error of their ways. And surprisingly quickly as well.

Its no longer a problem.

Did she have her "journalistic credentials" out in the Fever Zone last night???

If yes then TVNZ want to talk to her...

Wellington City Council will waive 50 tickets issued to Phoenix fans who breached parking time limits when the football team's match against Perth Glory ran into extra time.

As the fans were inside Westpac Stadium cheering their team, zealous wardens were stalking Thorndon Quay apparently determined to make fans pay for a nail-biting finish.

Many supporters exceeded the two-hour parking limit as the game went into 30 minutes of extra time and then a penalty shootout.

Berhampore resident Craig Krestani, who copped a $21 ticket, said it would have been issued during one of the most nail-biting periods of the game.

"The Phoenix just made history and put Wellington on the map - and the council did this."

Island Bay man Jeff Greenfield also received a fine - and said he saw about another 50 cars had also been ticketed.

"It's absolute revenue collection. It's unbelievable."

The Dominion Post understands the council will announce today that the tickets will be waived

Who would have thought the council would waive parking tickets for football fans. This city is getting better and better.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

I think the council realise that this is a special run by the Phoenix and those whom attend need some fair treatment. I image a bucket load of money was spent in Wellington last night and i imagine several bucket loads being spent at the jets game. Businesses all around inner Wellington must be rubbing their hands with anticipation and good luck to them.

55-60 thousand people attended events in the city over the weekend, plus how ever many did Round the Bays so I imagine WCC made an absolute mint over the weekend.

Good Ups to Council for waiving the fines! I got a $15 fine and was just going to accept it but now I can spend it at the stadium in two weeks.

Maybe the WCC, and not Ticketek, should be responsible for the ticketing at the Planes match.

They sound way more efficient!!!

Very good move. Passed him and his family leaving the game on the concourse last night so he was there and knew what it meant to everyone. Perhaps he got a ticket as well ....

It got waived, why continue to make a massive news story about it? Every article about the game ive read, has ended up talking about the parking fines. Hope to god the TV media doesnt resort to the same. Wouldnt be surprised with TVNZ mind you.
