yup
except for the header he missed to cut out a corner in front of the near post, the two times he played  strikers onside and the two or three significant times he lost his zone marking
but those things matter for defenders

ummmm
i may be missing the wind up whoooo joke

Decent on the ball, but played players onside twice I believe, which was costly.

For a guy who isn't a right back and probably isn't match fit due to a lack of game time, it's no surprise he was caught out a fair bit.

Not saying it's acceptable, he's a professional and has to be able to step up when called upon.

Fuck this stupid game

Zero Beer Tonight Analysis- we weren't too bad, and Perth were good. The rest of the season looks really promising for us, we just need to play together a bit more until it all clicks. And it will. We always had one of the best defences in the League; What happened to it? Durante seems to be his usual playing self (excellent) but seems to have lost some captaincy skills/ authority/ or something. Game against SFC at the Ring of Fire will put us back on our winning ways without a doubt. As I said after the last game though, and I feel even stronger after this game- get rid of Hearfield. Permanently. His posing would be OK for an Argentinian first team player, but (let's admit it) he is total crap. Be really good to see Manny back. Siggy scored a goal??????
COME ON PHOENIX!!!

Well, for me, thinking back about the game, Daniel was good on the left, and made some great crossfield passes to Ifill, and the beautiful cross in near the goal.

Have to say one thing, Daniel has improved his crosses out of sight. The rest of the team could use some more work on accurate crosses.

Pav was working hard when he came on, was right to question Greenacre when nobody was on the end of his cross, after doing all the hard work.

Nick Ward added some more short passing to the midfield, and while not everything was perfect, it's the type of football we really need to be playing to break down defences - we can't always cross it in from out wide, or watch Ifill running at people (and more recently losing the ball each time).

Siggy and Durante had some key moments clearing the ball, and when they're not pulled out of position, they're fine. I think the problem is that they're both playing high up the park and Perth were great in exploiting the wide pass to get passed the offside trap.

Lochy and Troy both had very average performances, some good in getting up the park, but nearly always getting caught with a pass in behind them.

It was very good to see Ricki sticking to his word and shaking things up with the subs at half-time and 65th minute. Needs to continue more.

I'd hope to see Daniel and Pav start next week, possibly Ward also. Lia and Brown in risk of bench time.

With Manny and North to come, I'd say 3 at the back with Manny in DM, and the midfield going to look a lot different this year.

Yeh we seem to have 3 strikers who aren't really goal scorers.

Better performance than last week for me.

What was our formation in the first half? Was it a 4-3-3? It looked like Daniel spent a lot of time in central midfield. The midfield was better than last week. Still think Muscat should fill the hole in between defence and midfield. I'd contemplate this next week to shake it up a bit:
                     Paston
Hearfield Sigmund/North   Durante Lochhead
                     Muscat
            Ward             Lia
Ifill               Pavlovic        Daniel/Bertos

Subs:
Vukovic
Greenacre
Brown
Daniel/Bertos

Or even more more radical:
                   Paston
  North Sigmund Durante Lochhead
                 Muscat
           Brown      Ward/Lia
Hearfield        Pavlovic/Bertos      Ifill/Daniel

The trouble the defence face is that when we took control late last year we had a three man midfield with Manny, Vinnie and Brown.  Of that set Manny provided the defence with a shield.

Quite clearly without him or someone else in that role we get steamrolled.

This. Also our only proven goalscorer (i've forgotten Ifill in my bitterness) got subbed for Ward. Might get on a few of those Daniel crosses with Muscat covering...We were dynamite with the 3 in the centre of the park- the change this season just simply hasn't worked.

Hating the long ball to McCallister. Want some players with speed!

Is really interesting how we all must have watched different games. From some of the comments im still not sure what to make of some things.Things like this"one of the best short passing, possession retaining games from us for a while" or claiming Daniel had a top game.Admittedly we didnt give as much ball away as against the Roar  but dont think it was that good, still dont get  people love affair with Daniel.
What i still dont get about the game that we play,is we seem unable and always have lacked the ability to counter with genuine pace.
As for Ifil think it just a case of adjusting his game as he dosnt have the space or time other teams were giving him last year.

Hearfield was exposed to many times as he watch the ball not the player making the runs behind him.

He's a fan favourite, just like Siggy, so people don't want to critique them.

Daniel's great.
Pretty much every constructive moment we had in the first half started with Daniel. A bunch of excellent long passes and some good accurate and direct passing into the strikers. Plus anyone remmeber our best chance of the game, Ifill's shot cleared off the line. You rewind the tape on that. Daniel picks it up in middle of the park, plays some short passes then takes off on a looping run beyond the strikers to pick up the return ball, delvers that awkard cross that Velaphi fends straight to Ifill.

Yes, he made mistakes but that happens to players who carry the entire creative burden of a team. I think he can play in that role - needs more opportunity.

It's not a Phoenix Match unless Siggy gets a yellow card.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

I really dont know what to make of yesterdays game.

Whilst Perth were quite impressive, particularly in the first half, the Phoenix were much like the previous week alternately good and terrible.

I almost think the whole point was to provide us with some fun this week in trying to pick next weeks team against Sydney.

Pretty much the whole squad must be in with a shout of at least making the bench.

Overall, yesterday was quite disappointing, it all seemed so aimless, both in the first half and in the second half

And to cap it all we had Dadi there sitting doing nothing.  If he was in the squad hed be in my selection for next week.

Hello,

Well Ben did give us some hope to at least draw, but alas not to be. We were outplayed by Glory and I actually went to watch  Robbie Fowler make his debut for Perth Glory, a few weeks ago when I was in Perth. What do I think of him? I agree with Sam Worthington-Dompost sport reporter..."...end-to-end, frenetic football with Fowler fluffing two golden chances that in his prime he would have buried with his eyes closed".

I thought Siggy was great. Made some spectacular saves. I was pretty happy with the game to be honest. Just thought we were rusty starting off. Defence needed bit of doing up. But we are Perth's bitches.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

I dont think that Dadi would add anything that we dont already have..misfiring strikers etc etc

I thought Siggy was getting more ball than Brown or Lochhead...or Daniel.

Either way we need an orchestrator in the middle there directing traffic! Our strikers aren't getting quality ball, our wide players seem unable to cross, our midfielders aren't switching, and our full backs are getting caught out of position.

End of last season we had a tight defence, a solid midfield that could open up most teams, and a clinical group of strikers. However that seems to have gone out the window, and all we've only lost McKain!!!

Oh, and anyone suggesting North or Siggy to RB is nuts.

Went to Townsville last season - think that was Hearfield's first match at RB. Commented then that he is not a natural (ie instinctive) defender- he didn't always hold the line and played strikers onside. He improved in later matches, but after a lack of game time the instinctive response becomes dominant and he was caught out several times yesterday.

I was at the match, and am quite surprised by some of the comments on the forum. It's not doom and gloom by any means. Perth were crap for a large part of the game - they are not a good siide, as far as possession-based football is concerned, but they are sharper up front, particularly on the counter-attack They double-marked Ifill all match. I thought Siggy and Durante did well, given the problems out wide.

So the 3 News sports presenter just pronounced Mile Sterjovski's first name in the same way the unit of measurement of the same spelling is pronounced.  Lucky she's fairly good looking (though nothing on that Singh woman, phwoar!).

I you rather play poorly and win that play well and lose.
However yesterday we did play some good football at times.
Earlier someone said Perth were crap. Not sure it was the same game I was watching.Heaps of people reckon that Siggy was the best- he did score a great goal- but poor defending by Perth, no players on the post. He was lucky not to give away a penalty in the second half, I thought it was and so did the commentators.
Can't remember the last time Tim was subbed. He is good enough, but will have to change the way he plays.Pushes up too often to support the strikers( who are trying to get hold of the aerial balls) Needs to control the middle more and create for the strikers.
On that performance I am sure we will beat Sydney this weekend.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I didn't see or hear the game and came onto the forum and read the game thread from start of game to the end without knowing the final result. Gee, from some you'd think it was the end of the world, yet reading newspaper reports etc today - the game and performance seemed to have got a pass mark.

I've also noticed some doom and gloom on other occassions when I've actually seen the game.

Conclusion: While it is good to have passion for our team - some people don't know their ass from their elbow

Suspect those people not sure where their elbows are happen to be the ones writing the newspaper articles, we were poor as simple as that. That is not doom and gloom, we were well beaten and had bugger all shape or purpose. Not much point pretending otherwise!

I thought Daniel did well, it was nice to see him get more game time.

Ward seems keen and offers something new.

I'm tempted to see Pavlovic start instead of Greenacre; Pav seems to create a little more, though it may just be that he's more random! Of course, with only 20 minutes to play you can run everywhere.

I'm disappointed that we still don't have any pace in the side (after 3 years!). We will find it difficult to stop the likes of Adelaide and the Fury without quicker defenders.
