We can discuss this if we make the top 2 at the end of the season. Otherwise, it is irrelevant.

I think News is on the money - timed with Gareth's twitter, I think its this weeks attempt to generate some controversy (which sadly equates to media space) around the club to keep it in the wider publics mind.

Edit: not saying this is a bad thing, nor that Ricki isn't genuine in his wish to have the ACL available to us.aitkenmike2012-02-09 15:01:32

Good discussion, but we haven't won anything yet. Brisbane Roar and CCM are the 2 best sides in the League. Away wins at the Caketin are a great form guide, which puts Perth way up there with their run which has followed that victory. Makes us realistically about 4, unless we take the next step on Sunday.
Ifill's quote this week about the Nix not being at the Roar and CCM level yet is a timely reminder of where we're at. He re-signed on the basis there would be a couple of quality signings in the next off-season.

Losses this year at RoF, against the Tards, Salty Dogs and Perf. So far against Roar, we drew in Brissie, won in Dunners

I'm all for Gareth and Ricki rocking the boat to keep the Phoenix in the news, I just don't think we have any grounds to get the ruling changed. If (and I do mean if) we finish in a position that would have otherwise meant we would qualify for the ACL, then we have some leverage to use.

Hypothetically, imagine a future in which there was a second NZ team in the A League...

...then imagine a year in which the two NZ teams finished 1st and 2nd and one of them won the Grand Final.

Resulting in NO Australian teams in the ACL the following year.

Then imagine the two kiwi clubs repeated their performance the following year.

THEN something would be done about it... and I am not sure it'd be good for the kiwi clubs either.

Of course the sensible solution for Australia is to get a rewrite of the Australian qualifying rule done, so that it is as it is, PLUS, if one of more of those positions were to end up falling to an inelligbile club (like the Phoenix), then the next highest Australian based club would take the slot.

What we do about getting the Phoenix able to play in the Oceania league is a different question...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

I know you're speaking hypothetically but I will add that there is no way in hell AFC will allow another NZ based team into the competition.  They don't even like the Nix being there but FIFA have given their blessing and the less we rock the boat the better.  Personally I'd rather see Canberra or some other some other place in Australia have a viable team enter.  We're just going to have to accept that we will not be in the ACL even if we win the comp years down the track.

Hard News is right this is all mega jinx making.  My bad, I should not have posted the story.

lol what? But we're 2nd? Since when was a 2nd placed side realistically 4th on the ladder? Last time i checked being 4th was realistically 4th. Only CCM have won more games than we have. Im sick of all this fapping over the Roar, theyve lost to almost everyone this season. Look at the history of the A-League, every season theres a power shift. So what, they won a title last season. All that means, as far as history goes, is that they wont win again for the next 3 or 4, or more seasons. The sooner people get over the Roar the better, its sad enough that the media and everyone else still treat the Tards like gods just because theyve won a couple of titles once upon a time
