No fan of the year award. Always thought that was a weird award.

usually quite difficult to judge. Though ironic that they've scrapped it the year we have a finalist in the FFDU fan of year award, so it would've been quite easy to judge.

Whats the "Carlsberg Fan of the Year" award for then or is that a mistake?

She's the one from Perth who won the competition the other week to fly home to see a game.

What was the gosip on licence renewal ?

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Progressing nicely is what I think Rob said. Get the impression they are almost there, but the Phoenix want a longer licence.

Permalink Permalink

guessing the length will be tied in to the length of a new TV deal with sky (which you'd also hope isn't too long).

Would have been nice to have awards for the WeeNix. Reserve team player of the year, something like that (maybe they didn't want to give anything to Tyler?).

Yeah, was there anything about the WeeNix at all? Were the players there?

They had a public vote last week, I voted Burns.

From the email 16 Apr:

You're invited to vote and have your say in two awards in the Huawei Wellington Phoenix Awards Night.
Voting for the Ricoh Goal of the Year starts Friday, so make sure you're checking our Facebook page so you can vote for your favourite.

As a member of the club you also get to take part in the Members Revera Under 23 Player of the year. Click here to cast your vote.

Yeah I tend to like goals that are more about the skill of the player, rather than the sharkness of the defending. Context of a goal is pretty important for me. A goal against Newcastle when already leading is less important than, say, taking the lead away to Sydney.

I thought Roly's freekick in Melbourne was our best of the season personally

Seems no one else wants to comment on it so I will bring it up. Very disappointed with fan of the year award. Given the work put in by a number of people in trying to attract people to the Phoenix. Sorry but to give it to someone who has already been given award just dosnt seem right.

Was waiting to get a moment to think about this one Steve. I think it's "a have" myself. So she travelled back from Perth to watch a game? What about those fans that have done various trips to Aussie on more than one occassion at their own expense - including Perth?

Then there's Brandon and Matt.Sorry but I think there were/are far more worthy winners than someone who won a prize of a free trip home to watch the Nix. This might sound like sour grapes but sorry if it sounds that way, Just in a state of disbelief.

I believe she also does a really good job with the Perth supporters group. Plus travelling from Perth is pretty massive.

It's a weird award, just a way for the club to recognise someone as a token gesture to fans as a whole really. I wouldn't take it too seriously or begrudge her of it. Good on her for winning it.

Travelling to Perth is just as amazing too. Setting up the Ronald MacDonald thing should have scooped it IMHO. Excellent cause.
