So who will be our next goal-keeping coach??

Regarding Sail - I think his form has dipped because he has tried to adapt and improve his game. Sail is a shot stopper, but the world, or at least Europe it seems at the moment is all about the ball-playing goal keeper. Wouldn't be surprised if this is a choice on his part. He wants to move, this will help!?

that may be the case but if his shot stopping drops he's no good to anyone as a ball playing keeper.

Good to see Gouldy wasn't out of work too long.

Best of luck to him at Stoke.

Some of the replies suggest Stoke need a new Keeper, wonder if he might put in a good word for Sail?

I guess that's part and parcel of the footballing world these days - Employees/coaches who have formed relationships and understandings with others at former clubs, and then taking that knowledge further afield.

If he can rediscover the form of last season then eventually he'll get offers from abroad, but after that performance against Peru he comes across as a bit stifled and apprehensive - Not terribly out of form, but almost seems like he's at a bit of a cross-roads with his career.

I think his only chance to sign in England would be if he holds a UK passport, as I don't think Sail would qualify for a work permit to play via the points system.

The All Whites are far too lowly ranked to get significant permit points, and him missing games for them wouldn't help either. The A League would also get him next to no permit points due to being similarly lowly ranked. I think he'd need 15 points to have his permit approved, and even if he plays every minute for the national team and wins the A League he'd fall short of that.

Suspect that this has been the case unofficially since Gould left.  If that is the case, he has done his trial and the job is his by performance proof in the eyes of Talay and the rest of the staff.  Good luck to him and the glovemen

Oi Oi Edgecumbe
Any background on the new GK coach?
He's played a bit of National League with Hawkes Bay, and was also at Auckland City a couple years ago, though he was backup to Zubikirai there. He's done goalkeeper coaching in Auckland for a while with his coaching business One Stop Goalkeeping, and was coaching/playing at Eastern Suburbs last year. He got the Phoenix Academy goalkeeping coach job at the start of this year or so, so has been Wellington-based since. I think he's also the goalkeeper coach for the NZ U17 boys' team. He's quite young, 27 or so, but hearing from players who've worked with him he's a good coach and seems like a good fella.

New Nix head coach Giancarlo Italiano has found his right-hand man. Adam Griffiths has been appointed the men’s assistant coach for the next two A-League Men seasons.
Welcome to the Nix Adam! #COYN!

Poached him from WSW, so maybe we will be able to defend this season?

Fewer shrubs for the boss to hide behind while he spies on you coming to work in the Phoenix carpark.

But, he seems like a great pickup - WSW were defensively one of the best teams and we were defensively one of the worst, interesting that we're poaching an assistant from a team that would have been very happy with the coaching setup.

Interesting...it would appear so. Juve Stabia are a small club based in Castellammare di Stabia near Naples and play in Serie C.
They've never been huge (they played in Serie B in the late 40s and then again for 3 seasons in the early 2000s), but they have been a mainstay in the 3rd tier and have had a lot of players who went on to do great things in the future, like Fiorentina's current captain Biraghi, Gianluca Grassadonia (who played in Serie A for many seasons), Pavoletti (one cap, one goal for Italy) and current Lecce live wire Strefezza.

Chif's Italian connections starting to pay off already...

Chris Greenacre has resisted overtures from the new Auckland expansion franchise to re-sign with the Nix. The club icon, who has been with the Nix since 2009, has committed to another two years as head coach of the men’s reserves.

Makes you wonder what BS he was offered or then had withdrawn after the Sydney lot showed up.

I feel like a bunch of NZ journos were briefed off the record that he was it for Auckland.

Be worth getting that story. Suggests there’s a lolly scramble rather than consistent decision making at the Auckland/Sydney New Bling.

"It’s believed that longtime Wellington Phoenix staffer and current reserves coach Chris Greenacre - who also applied for the role - will be part of Corica’s team." - Michael Burgess, the Herald, Dec 19

I'm happy to believe Greeny applied for the top job, but yeah, someone was briefing them that he'd jumped ship to be second banana, which would have been very disappointing if true

Just got added by this fella on Twitter. Former Academy coach of New England Revolution and FC Cincinatti. As you can see, he's onboard with us, and is new to the club/country.

Super nice bloke too. Comes in to a new role within the club from what he's told me - Head of Coaching, and working with the U19's lads (I'm guessing he means the reserves?)

Welcome Joshua Neff. 🤝

Well I guess this is the best place to post regarding former staff as well.

Steve Coleman's move from the Wellington Phoenix to Loudoun United in the USL Championship has finally been confirmed this morning.

Will be Assistant Manager to Head Coach Ryan Martin. Excellent opportunity, and best of luck to Steve. 👏
