Phoenix losing money...

Do you realise we would still make a loss regardless of how big or small this problem is (or even non-existent)? A few $100 is not going to change our loss. I don't know if people realise but they can see the types of tickets people buy and if the kids was so high it was outside the normal the Phoenix would know this already and would address this problem. People are presuming huge amounts of people do this which is obviously wrong.

Good point.
But it would still add up to quite a bit over the season.
And in this current financial crisis. Thats money we cant afford to lose.
But yes. It certainly wouldnt impact the amount of money being made.

As Tony p. said.
We need 10k to break even. So there is our main problem.

Yes 10K is the figure that we break-even at and should be our main focus. So lets full up the stadium to help recover the losses so far this season for next months playoff game vs Queensland.

I think it's fair enough to want to sit in the seat you have bought.  It's the butterfly wing effect.  If I don't sit in my seat, wear my 'who are ya' shirt, eat chips at half time and eat the same lollies each week we wont win.  Clearly as I do this every week it is someone else mucking up the fabric of the universe when we lose.

Then I can stand in front of someone else's seat each week.
And im justified, because if I dont. we wont win.

I think you should just say nothing at all.  He's raising the point of various individual factors contributing to an overall loss.  He's more than aware that there are other factors he didn't talk about.  You're just being an immature nuisance.

On the subject of "loaning out season tickets", as an example, I would only ever consider going to a hurricanes or lions match if a friend was loaning me their season ticket.

So for people whom wouldn't go without free tickets, loaning tickets off other people isn't a bad thing, if they weren't going to go anyway, they can come and atleast make the numbers up slightly.

(Sorry if that was obvious)

1.  Steve-o is making a fair point about one area where the Phoenix is losing money, nothing to do with 10k at the stadium at all or general issues of finance.  He makes a fair point and it's something for the stadium to consider for next season.

2.  I think it's unclear whether the 10k includes various freebies, including sponsors etc etc.  10k is obviously a rough approximation as for example if you got 10k kids you would be receiving less in income than 10k adults.  Families, freebies etc etc are going to change that balance.

3. Averaging 10k on the agtes doesn't guarantee a loss, or break even.  Costs fluctuate, for example if we make the top 4 there is increase in costs, or Asia, again an increase in costs.  Or if we increase sponsorship at the stadium or on the strip etc then that's an increase in revenue that will be off-set against losses on match days.  It's again a break even approximation.  It's not ideal to lose money when you play matches but hopefully there is money to be made.

4. The new TV deal is going to be key.  2 extra teams means a lot more matches...if this is reflected in a better TV deal the costs of the franchise could turn out to be a bargain for Terry.  Again though, more sides means increased number of matches, greater potential for gains and losses.

Basically, it's not as simple as we get 10k we break even, there are many, many expenses and income streams that we have no idea about.

Michael, I agree.  It get speople to the game and next time they come they will hopefully pay.  Season tickets are money in the bank for the club and although they would prefer everyone turned up to every match, overall it's more important to get people through the gate enjoying football in the long run

I have a feeling there is a fair amount of 'lending' season tickets when people can't use them.  Again maybe not a huge contributor to losses but more revenue is lost.

In my mind there is nothing wrong with that, as long as the season ticket holder is in the same group as the person who has lent the season ticket too...

Eg. An adult could lend to an adult but a Child couldn't lend to an Adult.

He raised a valid point, and is getting c**ted off all over the shop.  Very strange.

Could it be because he recommended Smeltz to Hibernian.
It is a fair point he raises.

The other thing is, are the corp box holders or any of the 2500 deloitte club members that attend the games included in the crowd figures, because they don't pay. So maybe you need more than 10k

Even when the seats in yellow fever are pretty much first come first served.
And I am guilty of borrowing a pass from oska from time to time though.

Damn right....get outta my way!!  Next time you're in my seat Stefan ye shall be picked up by ya ear and ejected into the row in front or behind!!!!  Jokes bud, you always move for this miserable old git and you know how I'm a stickler for my spot.....I haven't missed a single game from that seat....PSC's, League games....everything!!!

We have three season tickets there, and when either of the other two can't go we give them to other mates to get them to come along for their first or second taste of the Nix....nowt wrong with that I say!!!

I agree with Steve, we need to identify ways people are trying to cheat the system and make the club aware of it so they can close the loopholes they wouldn't be aware of.

Call yourself a supporter when you're scamming the very club you "claim" to support....MEH!!!

All members have to go through the turnstiles, as does everyone whether they've paid or not or wether it's a childs ticket or an adult - answer is yes they are counted.

Yeah, unless we uncover the reason for the loss in it's ENTIRETY, we may as well not bother trying to save anything. I trust you're not a businessman?

My point which you have obviously missed is that every business has areas where they can tighten up on money wasted/lost and focusing on the small parts before the big parts is the wrong way to go.

The other way to look at it is that if the 'big parts' were out of your control (i.e. complete clusterf**k on the economic front), then you look at small things and what you can do about them until the time's right to focus on the big things.

A sidenote - with some very doom and gloom predictions for this year economically, can the club realistically hope to increase the number of memberships?

Yeah, its because people can buy them off the internet, print them off, then scan through without their ticket being checked. Same could be done with season tickets too worryingly.

Apparently in the UK,you cannot buy concession tickets online and just print them off. You have to either go buy them straight from the shop,or buy online and pick them (on matchday). Either way there is an ID check. But 2 problems with this method i guess are....

a) you could just get a child/student to go pick up the ticket, then give it to you to use.

b) It would put people off because of the inconvenience factor.

The only other solution is to check EVERYONEs tickets as they enter the gate. This also has obvious problems of...

a) would cause a big logjam as people are traditionally good at arriving at the very last minute, and would take forever for 8-10k tickets to be checked.

b) the cost of the extra security that would have to be on to check all these tickets may outweigh the benefit of the cost saved from those who partake in this ripping the club off practice.

Allegedly
