I see on another thread that Phoenix are making a "small loss" apparently and attendances have been cited as one of the possible reasons.

Now, while the numbers are a bit lower than we'd all like, can I suggest another problem that nobody seems to pick up on.

I pay my $28 fair and square every match BUT I know of several people who purchase kids tickets at whatever price they are ($10?? or free in recent cases!) and simply scan the tickets and are in.

Shouldn't the Phoenix be doing more to check that people are actually buying tickets at the correct price??? Sometimes I wonder why I pay the full whack when it is blatantly easy to get in at a fraction of the price.

Something that needs to be rectified for next season anyway.

Alas, the flip side is that some of these con artists might not bother going at all if they don't get in at the cheaper prices.

Discuss.

well if people are doing that they are ripping of the very club that they "supposedly " support. Effectively stealing from Terry - if you know people doing that tell them to pull their heads in.

wouldnt think huge numbers doing that.

I am trying to raise a valid point and noted on another thread that Phoenix were making a small loss. I couldn't give a flying one about the other clubs, I am simply saying that there is a problem that is costing Phoenix money and it should be addressed.

Lol Steve do you know much about football? I am guessing not. HK was basically saying that the problem has nothing to do with people buying kids tickets (I seriously laughed hard at this) but that attendences are down across all of the A-league so unless every single club has a problem of people buying kids tickets then it is another reason(s) (Have you heard about the global recession or seen the quality of the football????).

I thought he was getting antsy because this is exactly what he used to do (and possibly still does) - buy a child's ticket to go in even though he doesn't qualify anymore?

That's beside the point - people who do this are still ripping off the club and cutting into its margins. Not cool at all.

Exactly what has my post actually got to do with 'knowing about football'. I've been watching for 25 years pal and have been to literally hundreds of games, spending thousands of pounds, and now dollars, in the process. So please, less of the suggestion I know nothing about football when I have forgotten more about football than some people know.

You are guessing that one cause of Phoenix losing money is NOT because adults are buying kids tickets? How exactly do you come to this logic brainbox?

Once again, read my original post where I clearly mention that numbers are down. People buying kids tickets doesn't exactly help, does it??

Quality of the football isn't amazing, but it's the best we are going to get down here so people should stick with it and help it grow rather than deciding it's rubbish and sitting in the house or going round the shops with their Mrs instead.

My point seems to have been misinterpreted as saying this is the SOLE reason Phoenix are losing money, when it's not saying that at all!

It does have more to do with the crowd numbers.
Even having another 3k using kids tickets ads up.
The main problem is crowds. And ticketek and the club are asking for proof of age.

And dont have a go at me for "modding"
But it is frustrating to see three threads just from one radio sport interview.

Are you completely illiterate or something? It is yours and wellyphoenixfan's logic that makes no sense. You are the pair who are suggesting these adults buying kids tickets are making no contribution to losses the Phoenix are making. Please explain the logic behind this theory?

I am well aware there are other factors contributing to the loss.

I always go on a "think before you post" method... Well not always, but most times.

A lot of people on here don't though, which is why they have so big post counts, when they really don't add to the discussions at all.

Replies like "IBTL" are stupid and not needed....

And while I'm saying this I have realised that this has nothing to do with this thread... Crap.

You've made a valid point - but hard to see what the club can do about this other than have random ticket checks to ensure that everyone has a correctly priced ticket.

No, you miss the point. He said this was a contributing factor to the club losing money, and invited discussion on what can be done about it.

Now switch your brain on and start contributing reasonably, otherwise go to bed.

I think it's you that has missed the point and I invite you AGAIN to go back to the original post and my subsequent posts and read exactly what I have said before making a fool of yourself once more.

I have provided ONE of the various reasons as to why Phoenix (just Phoenix, don't care about the others) have been losing SOME money. Get it?

Well, for me, all tickets should be checked. It happens in the UK with bigger crowds (I would not expect to get in if I had a kids ticket unless I was VERY lucky) so I don't see why it shouldn't happen here. There are stewards at almost every scanner, as well as those checking bags before you even get to that point.

Perhaps different coloured tickets to make it obvious or something?

Don't think he's arguing that point, I think he was just pointing out what one of those 'various f**king reasons' might be. Jag2009-01-21 23:40:43

That presumes a degree of competence from Ticketek.

But a good idea, wonder how practicable it is.

Colored tickets!
Thats a good idea.
But it would require a different printing system at ticketek outlets.
All that we can really do about that is have Red Badge check tickets. Im sure I can have a talk to my boss.
The crowd numbers might decrease a bit. but that depends if it goes off ticket sales or how many people enter through the gates.
But the club would still make money from the tickets sold because they are non-refundable.

I regularly see people walk past where I sit checking their season ticket to see where they should be sitting.  Fair enough in the early weeks but even I can remember where I am sitting after 3 or 4 months.  I have a feeling there is a fair amount of 'lending' season tickets when people can't use them.  Again maybe not a huge contributor to losses but more revenue is lost.

Some that obviously differentiates between a kids ticket and an adult ticket would help.

For instance I have seen adult tickets that have perforated edges on both sides, and the corresponding kids ticket only having one (the other having been ripped off already) and thefore the adult ticket is literally bigger than the kids's one.

I'm not sure how widespread it is, but it most certainly does happen and should be stopped. I can't even begin to think how many people paid nothing at the 'kids go free' game the other week. I saw one girl who was probably about 18 going up to the ticket window and asking for 5 kids tickets - she got them and she blatantly didn't have 4 kids in tow, nor was she a kid herself.

Do you realise we would still make a loss regardless of how big or small this problem is (or even non-existent)? A few $100 is not going to change our loss. I don't know if people realise but they can see the types of tickets people buy and if the kids was so high it was outside the normal the Phoenix would know this already and would address this problem. People are presuming huge amounts of people do this which is obviously wrong.

Even when the seats in yellow fever are pretty much first come first served.

So you wouldn't rather the loss was smaller by clamping down on certain things that may be affecting it? There are various reasons that may well be out of the clubs hands, but surely they have to start somewhere? If it's a few $100 every game for instance? It all adds up.

Additionally, please don't suggest I have somehow conjured this story out of my imagination.
