Not Frankie Mac topless but do we need a Mascot?

Some one dressed up in a Phoenix Bird type outfit wandering around the ground keeping the kids happy like Captain Hurricane? Jude the Cat etc??

I choose Paul Henry. You can chuck stuff at him at half time - fun for the whole family!

If the kids need to be kept happy at a football match by a mascot they shouldn't be there at all!!

I take my kids cos they love football not for a mascot or halftime entertainment....which is sh*te by the way...

agreed

football doesn't need so called entertainment at 1/2 time, I'd rather talk about the game without that ZM boy blathering  on in my ear

and as for mascots again, it is a distraction from the football

(though that fight between the Wolves mascot and the Pigs (Bristol City ) a few years back, was a bit of  a classic)

Ill be the f**king mascot Ill wear the bird suit and hold a f**king umbrella as long as that gets me into the games for free. Anything that gets kids to games has gotta be good like mc sh*t- get them hooked early and theyll  be fans for life.  HEY i could challenge the the wellington lion and captain hurricane to a race or a penalty shootout then kick the sh*t outa them!!!! I thought the south american drums are  great too!!!!!

Can I be outrageous and suggest we need neither a mascot or cheerleaders??  Can the football not speak for itself?  Jeez, next we'll be having music played every time there's a break in play.  It's all CACK!!!

Love the drummers at half time, HATE twats with microphones playing games with fans and bunches of schoolkids playing five a side.  It looks like a training session.  What is all that about?

You can only be outrageous and make that suggestion if you let me agree. However, my family tell me that I am days away from a call-up to starting role in Grumpy Old Men - so you might want to distance yourself from my grumbles.

I'm off to pretend I'm deaf now just to annoy the young people...

Not at all.  Those guys talk perfect sense to me - which probably makes me one too.

if you look on the nix FB page - there is some noise being made about just this, looks like an attempt at a phoenix. I'm expecting it's goingt o look nothing like a phoenix and we'll end up being called the chickens or something worse....please nix 9 lets not go down the mascot on the sideline road - football doesn't need it.

So this!

I groaned when I saw that on fb. I know they want to appeal to kids but please not with a stupid guy in a bird costume. Unless its Gob Bluth in his chicken outfit

I think we should get rid of the football this season - it gets in the way of the loacl radio stations idea of organised fun.  Seriously, SERIOUSLY, THIS IS A FUCKIGN SPORTING EVENT.  It doesn't need some goon in a chicken suit goofing around to get people excited - THAT'S WHAT THE FOOTBALL IS FOR!!!

Here's an idea - if you want kids to have somethign to cheer about before the game get guys on the sideline doing ridiculous football skills and tricks - juggling etc.  Or something else, but make it about the football and the sport

I personally don't like it. But is it going to take away from my experience? No. It may however enhance someone else's. Don't like it,but also don't particularly care.

Great Idea. Dress the academy boys up for the Fantastic Phoenix Football Circus!!!

Line up! Line up! Boys and Girls! Come and see the amazing phoenix football circus! New Zealands next generation of Footballing Champions perfrom incredible feats for your amusement!! You won't believe your eyes!

Seriously though why not get some friendly skillfull indoor footballers with some face paint cruising round juggling and waving at kids exuberantly ect. I dunno maybe theres no such thing as a soccer clown, bit of niche market I suppose.

Well, unemployed actors in suits need jobs too. Perhaps Unemployed Actor In A Chicken Suit That's Supposed To Be A Phoenix can do some football juggling and we can have the best of both worlds. Hey, let's make it even better - when Perth are in town let's get Jacob Burns to punch the mascot in the face and get both of them out of our hair for a while.

I think it will be very good for raising the Nix profile in schools and at community events - which is where it is aimed I think. Possibly a soft toy too- which would go down well with the young set (and Juan Probato).

As far as game day goes it will provide good fun for those that like it, and great mocking material for those who are meh.
