Just as important as who gets pikced up is who runs this.  Youth coaching and development is completely different to coaching seniors.  I would be worried for example if we just chucked greenacre at it - someone who has no experience at all coaching young guys.

I really think the ACFC guy who eventually took the NZu17s is a good option. I forget his name. In contrast I wouldn't go near the u20 guy (Milicich?).

.
This
There are lots of guys who have had good experiance with coaching NZ youth. These guys know the NZ scene and would have a good depth of knowledge on lots of these kids. I hope they chose wisely when selecting the Nix youth coach.

I remember Trani and his clip board at quite a few TW game....that guy had loads of enthusiasm. Greenie has probably been too busy with his Nix commitments to get much of a handle on NZ domestic football.

Colin Tuaa is one of those guys with youth coaching experience (NZ u-17's 2006-2008) but he also has been a successful senior coach with Nelson in the 90's and then Manawatu, even if his stint in charge of Auckland City didn't turn out so well.
Also of course a former All White and top National League striker of the 80's and early 90's who also played in Australia's old NSL.
I knew Colin when he coached Nelson Suburbs and he struck me as very good at getting on with all types of people- patient, encouraging and a very sharp football brain.
Nelson developed some very fine young talent such as future All White Riki van Steeden, Jason Collett and Jamie McKenna during Tuaa's time there.

Colin also is unusual for a coach in that he brings very good business management skills from a long career as a mortgage broker and business manager.
He could just as easily be a sucessful football CEO.
In 2009 he was appointed CEO of the Samoan Football Federation to oversee it's restructuring and re-admittance to FIFA after FIFA had expelled it for irregularities.
Obviously successful in that, as they were soon re-admitted to FIFA and things seem to have been fine with Samoa since.

Anyone know what Colin's doing these days?
Is he back coaching in NZ again?
Seems to be a bit of a neglected talent...

Yeah what he did with Manawatu was awesome! I had a mate who was a fringe member of the side at the time and he had nothing but praise for Tuaa and said he was particularly good at spotting talent and getting players to play in new positions which suited their strength's better - which sound like good skills for a youth coach

Is the 8 lucky young players likely to contain a goal keeper or just outfield players?

wonder when we'll find out who they are, any whispers come from the club?

Not sure Gouldy is here yet, Ricki is in the UK, suspect Greenie is away as well.

Doesn't really leave anyone to sort recruitments for a while.

I saw Arsenal criticising the smileys earlier, and thought 'are bad smileys really worth a complaint' but WOW, that really is demented.

Ricki said to me today that the 8 players will be contracted by TW, train with phoenix, play mid week games ala the Nix reserves.  In the winter time they will be joined by some younger players (16yos) who will play mid week games against Central League teams

Have heard there's going to be a couple of Melville guys in there? Will weaken Waikato, but I'm sure they don't care, the logical career path. If that's the case then good luck to them

Who cares about any of that?

The most important thing is that he is a known quantity to the Nix, and he will follow Ricki's lead.

I'd rather the organisation goes with someone they know inside out and that they believe can do the job than bring somebody new to the club who ticks all those boxes above, but turns out to be a c**t.

Christ, John Aloisi is doing the same coaching course as Greenie and he'll be coaching the Heart first team next season!

Expect an announcement very soon. So bets on who we pick up?

Rowe, Fenton, Basalaj should be pretty much locked in you would think.

Possibles: Lucas? Carmichael? Lovemore? Thomas? Galbraith? Edge?

To be honest I havn't seen much of NZFC players other than TeeDubs games and the few in Age-group teams

I imagine Rowe having previously been on a profesional contract wouldn`t be happy being offered an academy spot

More likely interested in a paid U21 position

Give the team a scoop and they forget about talking about it.  Numpties.

Hopefully it will still be our scoop next week.

I think Ryan Thomas would probably be a sure-fire inclusion, very young and talented. Edge (the Jesse version) and Tyler Boyd may be around the fringes, I wouldn't be shocked if one of them got in. I'm so-so on Lovemore, and agree on the Team Wellington guys as being sure things

Third week of June is technically next week. But I assume its the week after?

Regardless, there should be announcement pretty soon, otherwise we will be able to rock up to Newtown Park and find out ourselves.

I'm thinking they are waiting till after the OFC to make the announcement? But hope they do make a big deal out of the st up

Rowe would be good fo the top side - we need a specialist RB - Manny does a great good there but he's more a holding mid. We haven't had a decent out n out RB that I think of - Disco Troy was converted.
