Boyd with two more goals. Not sure what else he needs to do to get ahead of Cunningham in the pecking order.

A few observations from this game:

  1. Tyler Boyd is definitely a class above the ASB Premiership
  2. Nathaniel Hailemariam is one for the future!
  3. Hawkes Bay Utd coach Brett Angell is an angry human

Boyd needs to be on the bench for Brockie or Cunningham.

What is the deal with Boyd? He looked enormously promising last season. Has he slept with Ernie's daughter or something?

Considering the way we play I would have thought he'd be a better fit than Cunningham and Brockie?

Perhaps he's looking to get him fully fit and up to speed before bringing him in... hard to get match fitness on the bench. Whatever the reason, I'd love to see him get a bit more game time.

Getting full games may be better for Boyd just now than getting just a scattering of minutes for first team. Am sure he'll get first team chances and should be brimmed with confidence when does.

Boyd was definitely class today. His pace and control on the ball was too much for HBU. Surely he'll be on the 1st team bench when Brockie goes.

Maybe he started eating cornflakes for breakfast

Good God!  So that's what it takes to get noticed by Sky... Call yourself the Wellington Phoenix and they jump.

No there wasn't and you know exactly why it is on Television vs a game from anywhere else.  You were deliberately poking sticks and being obtuse and got the response it deserved.

City could have a game on TV if they played a curtain raiser for the Phoenix at a venue where Sky already had their equipment set up (funded by FoxSports) but you lot would have coniptions about them playing a curtain raiser for the Phoenix.

...or City could pay for the air time and get every game covered.  Sky are nothing if not mercenary and I'm sure Trillion could find a few more addicts to fund it.

Damn Phoenix ruining New Zealand football. I'm going to go on to a forum which only exists because the Phoenix exist so I can complain about how the Phoenix are causing domestic semi-professional football to be broadcast live on television at no cost to NZF or the participating teams.

It's like all those uni students who go on about how bad capitalism is while they play on their brand new MacBooks.

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

Anymore plans for curtain raisers on SKY?

Isnt there a couple when games are played at Hutt Rec?

Begs the questions why most Reserve games arent curtain raisers when possible.

The fact that most of the Fever want to be in the pub pre-game might have something to do with it

Went to a couple of TW's games at the cake tin which were curtain raisers.  Hardly anyone there - less than 50 I would think.

From what was said at the time City vs Waitak game was supposed to be a curtain raiser at Eden park a few years back didn't happen because Eden park wanted In the region of $20K for the game to happen so no realistic chance of either club being able to pay for it with no gate to cover.

So the Phoenix are doing more to promote the ASBP than ACFC or Waitak? Well I never.....

Wasn't the commentary at the time something along the lines of nearly 6 hours at the stadium?

Yeah there was quite a lengthy amount of time between the games.  Pretty difficult to attract punters when they only had Export 33 to drink.

No excuse me if this question has already been answered somewhere but what happens to the OFC place if the WeeNix finish top of the league or win the Grand Final?

I'd assume It'd go to the third placed team.

From Regulation 10, 2014-15.....

21.19 Notwithstanding anything to the contrary:

21.19.1 Neither the National U-20 Selection nor the Wellington Phoenix is eligible to be a New Zealand entry in the OFC Qualifying Competition of the FIFA Club World Cup;

21.19.2 Should the National U-20 Selection or the Wellington Phoenix finish in a place in the Championship and/or the League such that it would have qualified for the OFC Qualifying Competition of the FIFA Club World Cup if it were not for this Clause 21, the entries will be as follows;

a Should the National U-20 Selection or the Wellington Phoenix win the Championship Final, the highest ranked entry shall be the losing finalist from the Championship Final, unless the losing finalist from the Championship Final is the National U-20 Selection or the Wellington Phoenix, in which case the highest placed Participant in the League will determine the highest ranked entry; and/or

b Should the National U-20 Selection or the Wellington Phoenix win the League, the second ranked entry shall be the next highest placed Participant in the League; and/or

c Should the losing finalist from the Championship Final and the next highest placed Participant in the League be the same Participant, then the second ranked entry shall be the next highest placed Participant in the League; and

21.19.3 NZF in its absolute discretion retains the right to interpret and decide the effect of this Clause 21 and determine the qualifier(s) for any OFC Qualifying Competition of the FIFA Club World Cup;

Well done Bruce

So in other words, relax, don't worry, the Phoenix or NZ20s can't go to O League. They do have the ability to affect the participants however which is an issue that has merit in debate depending on where you sit. I guess in one sense, if they are not there, they can't affect the outcome but in another, they play every team twice so every team has 2 cracks at them which is fair to all sides.

At the end of the day, if you are good enough, you will qualify and if you are not, you wont and if you are harping over a loss to one of those sides that keeps you out, then you probably were not good enough to be there to be begin with.

Thanks Bruce.

I suppose it makes sense that entry into the League would be dependant on WeeNix relinquishing any right to claim an OFC spot.

Also, from FIFA standpoint having Asian registerd players playing in the OFC would be a difficult proposition
