Phoenix season 1 highlights package

Has anyone thought of making a highlights package of the first season?

It could have clips of press conferences, interviews, the Becks extravaganza and of course lots of Smeltz goals!
And things from the fan side, like some chanting, away trips, etc.

If the club doesn't want to issue it, then Yellow Fever could compile an unofficial one.

It could be put on YouTube if a DVD is thought to be too expensive.
Note that YouTube has a 10 minute limit for clips.

Perhaps we could do one of on-field action, and a second of off-field stuff.

I might have some time to edit something, but I wouldn't want to do it all myself.

Very funny, I was thinking exactly the same.  Maybe we could supply a limited edition version, it comes with a free pair of rose tinted glasses.....

i'm sorry, but am I readiong this correctly, both DLB and avid think there hasn't been enough moments in the Phoenix's season to create a highlights reel? there have been plenty of awesome moments throught out the season, Elrichs first goal, the first win, Felipe's first goal etc etc. sure there have been plenty of dissapointments but looking at the positives I think we could manage a decent amount - jeez guys are you here as supporters or just ar*eh*les

90 minutes of watching just the crowd would be fun. There was a lot of entertaining going on in there.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Wow, nice post.

I suppose the general consensus to your last question would be that I'm a little bit of both.

To answer your point about the length of the highlights package; we scored 25 goals in the season, if we give 20 seconds to each goal thatll give us just over 8 minutes.  You do say plenty of awesome moments, I can visualize how the two goals and the first win would look on the reel, Im struggling to see how wed see the etc etc bit?

We played 21 games lost 11 and drew 5, conceded 37 goals and came bottom of the league, a season like that hardly screams HIGHLIGHTS video to me.

IMO the first season was a huge success but match day highlights were few and far between.

Notice that Ive disagreed with you without feeling the need to insult you personally

disgraced - hardly, highlights aren't just goals, just as the opposite is not just losses. Clearly you have some sense in that you recognise this season as successful, but seriously the way i look at it is simply - all goals are highlights, some of the close goals are also highlights, moments of brilliance in the field, special moments in the crowd...... I'm sure plenty of people could list things they'd like to add to a highlights reel. Highlights are not all about winning....even a losing team can celebrate the successes. See a reasoned response - so not disgraced - nice try though!

Disgraced?  I have no idea what you are on about......

Let's be honest though, if we had enough footage to constitute a highlights reel we wouldn't have finished bottom of the league.

Ok so I may have misread the last bit of your post - whoops. somehow disagree turned into disgraced when I read it - doh!

However, I'm sure, for example, there are a lot of teams who don't finish first, or close to thetop who create highlight reels of their seasons. You don't have to be winning to have highlights! the good points might be few and far between but they will be there, all I'm saying is I reckon we could easil;y fill ten minutes with a number of the team's successes.

Just had a look at Swindon FC's homepage, HN, and yes they do a highlights package after each game, even if they lose!

totally, i bet they had highlights reels after every game too! Most clubs do. I'd suggest after the first season - which has turned out to be a huge success and created the interest in footy as this current season has, I'm sure a small highlights package can be put together. Just because a team didn't finish first doesn't mean they can't relive the achievements through the season - does it?

Think that calling it a 'Highlights' reel might be the sticking point. I'm sure something with all our goals, near misses, Mossy's saves, crowd shots could be put together along with the defensive f**k-ups, send -offs, etc.

Any recording of a successful Elrich cross consititutes a highlights reel all of it's own

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Be easy to fill a DVD, for starters you could probably get at least an hour of footage of Stephen O'Dor breaking his nose every twenty minutes.

How about we just call it a season-review...that way DLB might be a bit more accepting.

the highlights reel of the fight between them about it is more anticipated than the season review I would suspect...

If you are going to start including Mossy's  saves its going to be bloody long.

I'm not concerned with what it's called - season review or highlights package - I'd just be happy to see one.loyalgunner2008-02-19 16:03:22

To be honest, I don't give a toss either way.  Look back to the start of the post, I made a "rose tinted glasses" quip and got called an arsehole for it.

It amazes me how something so small generates such traffic.  What the hell this has to do with the team I support in the UK I have no idea, and the fact that someone has suggested a poll to see who is right and who is wrong is laughable.  I've quoted Cosimo before and I'll do it again:

"Arguing on the internet is like the special olympics......."

Guys, if posting a 10 minute highlights reel on the web is your bag, just go do it, you don't need permission or acceptance.

Don't think anyone was asking permission to do so, just if someone was going to do it or had it been thought of yet. You come on here and make a statement alon the lines of why bother, there isn't enough to warrant a highlights reel.

The arsehole commenbt was directed at you because of the rose timted glasses comment, simply because it was unnecessary to say that if those of us who'd like a highlights reel would be deluded inot believing we deserved one.

A highlights or if you a prefer a season review DVD would be welcomed by me and i would imagine a few others who have taken part in what has been a 1st season which has been great fun to be a part of.

As an aside it is becoming annoying the way some  have to resort to insults if you dont agree with what someone else has posted, does seem that some lack any sense of humour.A bit of good natured banter is good but it seems some people dont know the difference between that and insults.

Actually, maybe a DVD of the season could be a good idea from a merchandising point of view. A record of our first ever season, might end up a collector's item!

Too right - I would definitely grab a copy. Just having a competitive Wellington team in the A League was a huge highlight for me. Strange but I still get a masochistic pleasure from disasters like Christie's botched backpass; every time I see it I still yell "Kick the f**kin' thing out, you bloody halfwit!" He never does though, bastard.

In fact I was kind of hoping the club might have a DVD in the pipeline, but it doesn't sound likely. Any possibility?

During the L. A. Galaxy game they show a highlights package of the Galaxy season.  Seeing as they didn't do very well, you would expect a bit of filler.

The first half of the clip however just contained the Galaxy players getting into fights.

They must think that being aggro is more marketable than actually being able to play

That seems fair. There's been a lot to celebrate in the inaugural year but precious little on the pitch to get excited about (as tends to be the case with any team that finishes bottom of the table)

You could easily make a 60 minute documentary about the whole 'Phoenix Phenomena' and focus it entirely on behind the scenes activities, the supporters, etc etc.

You could still include the 3 minutes of decent football, of course!
