Surprising that she didn't point out that the term is also sexist.
No wonder the World Health Organization wants to eradicate us.

Jesus watching that fight on twitter reminds me why I touch twitter once a year.
Also holy shark once @'s start being used some of the responses become short as fudge.
But seriously about my question, would yellow fever care that they are being used int he context of Phoenix marketing? and if they did, why?
I know a lady who needs to get a life if she thinks Yellow Fever is racist. However, I guess we could burn a cross in the zone if that makes her feel better.

Not so much care, but YF is an actual brand and separate from the Nix so should be consulted.

Oh OK, so who runs the brand? So if someone did want to use the name in a pun who would they consult?
In the back of my mind I assumed YF was the collective supporters group that was well run by really passionate supporters as opposed to its own brand operating as its own brand. Like who owns the brand?
This is genuine curiosity nto shark stirring because I always took Yellow Fever as a synonym for passionate fans of the nix, as opposed to specific fans if that makes sense.
it is kind of both, but I believe we are also a incorporated society? Someone maybe able to correct me on that, but we are a bit of a brand considering we sell our own clothing etc separate from the Nix

There you go! Look at that, Greenie is the majority shareholder! How do the rest of us get shares... ?

Reckon the pun is fine but the "yellow fever takes over snapper" title is kind of weird as it associates the promotion with the fan group, when it's more of a Phoenix promo.
Not really a big deal, just a bit odd for them to have used it.
Although I guess it does still make sense either way.

You want a share of $0.00 dividend.
Huh, the more you know.
I was at the polar opposite view that it was just the group of fans, and that we are all yellow fever as we are all the group, kind of a not for profit collective, as opposed to it being a company and we all use the service they provide.\
For example. if they asked Jim, who may frequent these forums, and may have had a YF ticket for 10 years, if they could use the Pun, he may have given them permission and all parties been none the wiser they were using a seperate companies brand.
(If there is an actual Jim fitting the above description, sorry it was a coincidence)
It nothing like that. We've had problems of people using our logo etc in the past.
It's only a company for tax purposes. see here. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11166979

And money isn't made for profit. It's made to allow YF to do things like TIFOs instead of having an actual membership fee

It is this. I guess the company is just a vehicle for the money to go through? The article 2B posted explains it pretty well - including the shambolic part

Thanks Dale, but that's article muddied the waters again as the article says there's no hierarchy, no-one in charge etc.
So you were quite surprised at the name being used as a pun, who specifically is in charge enough that they should have consulted?/who has the power to grant approval over the supporters groups name?
Edit: changed a couple of words

I was surprised in that sense because it was a Phoenix promo and the way it was worded could be interpreted as Yellow Fever (the group) was taking over Snapper, as if we were doing something. Rather than Snapper catching yellow fever (ie football fever) and getting onboard with the Phoenix.
Personally I’m not fussed if people use our name as a pun if they are promoting the Phoenix. Especially if it’s not implying we endorse something. As I said earlier, we’ve had companies use our logo without consent in their promotion of an event. I’m sure you can see the problem in that.
There are a group of people who organise stuff. When something needs to be decided we usually discuss it and come to a consensus (most of the time).

Well that's where I am confused, if it is this, then wouldn't we all have authority to use the name yellow fever?
the reactions above to the name being used is confusing as "yellow fever" the fans may have given permission, but "yellow fever" whoever is in charge of the brand may not.
I hope I'm making sense.
so I now own snapper?
yes, that racist company, snapper.

OK I kind of get it but it still seems to be left very open for interpretation.
I mean as Tegal said, it is we are all "yellow Fever" but we aren't as we all couldn't authorize the use of the word. E.g. if work wanted to do a promo where it was get a free *insert what work does* if you show your Nix ticket I probably would encourage YF puns to raise YF awareness, being unaware that there was a specific group with authority over the brand.
I don't know, its all a bit confusing. It seems like it doesnt matter, but it does.

I think they are actually rsexist...
I didn't either, until the initial responses in this thread to Snappers use of the brand.
I mean if the wrong person on the wrong day who does have authority over the brand name sees an innocuous attempt at support, can shark go down.
The fact that there was surprise implies at least to me that there is some structure, and if someone wanted to support the team, and did a promotion and it included puns Id be more inclined to say be weary.
I mean who were Snapper supposed to query? If Patrick sleeps with Dales car tomorrow and as such they have a giant argument and Dale left YF, and someone asked him if they could use the YF brand, can he say yes? can he now? Can Patrick? etc.

I'm not sure I understand.
But you're right, the term yellow fever is left open. Defining it doesn't really make sense. We don't do memberships because it's more hassle than it worth. I tend to think of YF as a group set up to coordinate support for the Phoenix (and local football). Whether you are part of that group is up to you. That way it's not limited to being in the zone on game day or by someone other definition.

If patick slept with my car, I think we'd be getting rid of him.

As I said before, the way it was worded could be interpreted that YF had in someway endorsed Snapper (rather than them getting on the football wagon). That is why it seemed odd. It has nothing to do with puns.
I'm not sure I understand.

I mean I get that but its confusing who is in charge of Yellow Fever.
For example if Snapper asked 10 people who are YF if they could say YF, and those 10 YF people said yes, is that authority? Or do only the right YF members have permission to say YF?
Like you say "we" a lot in your explanations but who is "we"? everyone on this site? or a specific few. Or the people on the About page which is out of date as it says the podcast is ITZ.
In the grand scheme of things its probably minor but I never really saw YF as a protected brand before, and am just trying to understand how it works.
Yet another funny example of someone ignoring context so they can get outraged on the Internet.
It's the 2010 World Cup where Americans got outraged over the all whites, all over again.
I guess that is because they were safe in the knowledge that there were plenty of people on the Internet getting offended on their behalf.
I'm not sure I understand.

I think the reason you are confused is the reason people are surprised that the term was used.
When they say yellow fever takes over snapper or whatever, it implies that Yellow Fever the fan group has some involvement. But if that were the case then who that is or what that is is unknown.
The "exec" are fairly well known and if they haven't heard about it, then its surprising
Another way to look at the oddity is to remove the pun .
"insert fan group here" takes over snapper
Reduced to the absurd, RBB takes over snapper
I mean I get that but its confusing who is in charge of Yellow Fever.

Generally whoever is approached messages the exec to say "I've been approached by XX to do YY. what does everyone think. We discuss it, and then almost always come to a consensus.
Is it an issue?
I would have thought puns about the supporters group to the club would have been a good thing.
I think this should read "a supporters group". Yellow Fever is only one of the groups that support the club.
Are there any other "organised" groups? I remember in the early days some guys tried to organise some schismatic Greek-based group, but I don't know how far that got.
Generally whoever is approached messages the exec to say "I've been approached by XX to do YY. what does everyone think. We discuss it, and then almost always come to a consensus.
Ok so in that instance are you saying YF is specific members?
Not just people that consider themselves members of YF?
Or does everyone (except me) on these forums/other means know who the exec is?
