that makes sense Santy, as I'm guessing/hoping the Beckham game will have been a factor in signing up  a bigger sponsor than would have been possible otherwise

it would be canny if Beckham got off the plane holding up a Nix shirt with the new sponsors name on it

(though no doubt some people would then put 2 and 2 together and swear that we'd just signed him)

I think Adidas would cut his balls off if they saw him holding a Reebok shirt up.

Adidas own Reebok.

Do they? When did that happen? Nobody asked me. B*****d Germans.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Like 2005/06. Wikipedia says early 2006 but also says Reebok was brought in August 2005. I think Adidas' purchase is why some teams in the Premier League, ie Liverpool, switched to Adidas from Reebok. Obviously not Bolton though!

Surf Life Saving Partners with Wellington Phoenix

Surf Life Saving New Zealand is proud to announce it has been confirmed as the official charity partner to the Wellington Phoenix Football Club.

This two-year partnership with New Zealand’s only Hyundai A-League football team will see a number of exciting initiatives designed to mutually drive key safety messages through this arrangement between two organisations with strong links to summer.

Surf Life Saving New Zealand CEO Paul Dalton says this is an exciting step for Surf Life Saving. “We’re delighting to be working in partnership with a team who has similar values when it comes to connecting with the community. We look forward to building an ongoing relationship with the Phoenix and their strong fan base,” he says.

Wellington Phoenix General Manager David Dome is thrilled to see two passionate community organisations join together through their busiest times of the year.

“We think this partnership is an exciting way to bring two passionate supporter bases together. Professional football is a summer game and we know that many of our crowd will be spending their times on beaches around the country between Wellington Phoenix games. The role that Surf Life Saving New Zealand plays in Kiwi’s lives is important and we see their message as key. We are proud to be able to assist them with their safety messages”.

The winter season is a time for planning and preparation for our athletes and the 1000’s of volunteer surf lifeguards that keep us safe on the beach. . The partnership will kick off in mid-June when the organizations will team up for the first time for SLSNZ’s Winter Appeal and we get ready for a great summer.

Maybe they will bring them in on a rescue boat.

The Life Flight Trust lost a contract last year so I assume this is why. They still have the heli based here but no planes anymore.

Thats a brilliant move, hopefully the surf lifesavers can rescue some of the diving bastards that come to the ROF.

Great work from the club.....this is exactly the sort of off season community work they should be involved with. All this stuff combined builds up interest in the club.....which in theory should make it easier to sell tickets when the season starts.

I always thought the club should make more of the mid week local preseason/trial games. Everyone is really hanging out to see the team play as was seen with the big crowd at Petone last week. An advert or two even in local rags would bring in a few punters. They could call it the Phoenix Surf life saving charity winter series or what ever and have gold coin donation collections for the SLS at the matches. I know lots of casual fans who would go mid week to see the Nix play midweek.......but they don't do YF and there is nothing on the Nix website

In the past I think it was insurance issues that have prevented it. We have probably been doing 'opposed training sessions' so far, rather than games.

Noticed FOXTEL were on the back of the shorts we've been playing our trial matches in.

Leaked kit had no logo on the front, so not surprised Sony has finished sponsoring us. We will probably end up with Unicef on the front of the kit this season.

Sure Tegal, resurrect a thead that's had just over 10 posts/year. Anyway.

Sony is gone. Who is going to be our sponsor? And will it be annouced before the kit unveil

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/wellingtonphoenix/news-display/sony-refocus-on-football-ahead-of-world-cup/74185

"After six years as major sponsor of the Wellington Phoenix Football Club, Sony New Zealand will reduce their involvement in A-League football to focus on a busy two years for the sport globally ahead of their sponsorship of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil.

It is a key strategic step by the electronics brand in a move to widen the scope of Sony’s already strong relationship with the world’s most popular sport"

I think that's what they call "polishing a turd".

However...

Andrew Gourdie ?@Andrew_Gourdie 8m

After six years, Sony will no longer be the principal sponsor of Wgtn Phoenix. Club hope to announce a new major partner within a fortnight

Andrew Gourdie ?@Andrew_Gourdie 8m

The deal with Sony didn't reflect the true value of the advertising space. The new deal will bring the Phoenix in line with rival clubs

Sounds positive, hopefully.

The last post was only last week, it wasn't that hard to find. And it is still the sponsors thread. Why have two?

Allegedly

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I can promise you the new shirt sponsor is not Trade Me.

Be cool to see a tech brand in there though...knowledge economy and all that. Hoping for a brand like personality (maybe Xero??), but more likely to be someone dull like Revera or Telecom.
