Well, I don't know what they mean, but they're interesting.
Maybe a way to interpret it would be looking at completed passes vs time in possession. Cause you can take no. of passes either way, but time not in possession does tend to hurt you.

I'd have thought that number of passes attempted/completed reflects the amount of possession you have. The lower the figure, the less possession you have. And vice versa.

Not necessarily. We tend to run down the wings quite a lot, and siggy/dura etc with their runs through the middle. Surely that wouldn't count as a pass, but eats up a bit of possession. I mean, it would be pretty similar, but may change it a little??

I also think that our lack of pace in the strikers makes it harder to play a possession game. Defences can safely push up higher on us reducing the space in the middle.

I am not going to take this fred seriously until there is a couple of bar graphs, a scatter plot with a polynomial regression line and a PCA graph (to satisfy the social scientists out there).

Don't think so. Running with the ball doesn't really take that much time , eventually you have to pass it around to get somewhere. It's not Playstation football so you can keep sprinting down the wings the whole game.

But I guess the possession stats are also influenced by set-pieces (goal-kicks, corners, free kicks) so maybe we don't come out as badly in possession stats as our passing stats would seem to suggest.

You can't do that in "Player Mode" either.  I play as LWB.  It's hard (and I'm rather sh!te).

True, and indeed I do. Goal difference is fairly important, but if we get enough points it might be worthless.

Wonder how often it comes into play. Cant remember for instance if a team ever won the EPL through GD? Suppose that becomes statistically more unlikely the more games played

The HAL has had a lot of close finishes, I'm sure at least one season has come down to goals scored - 200809 season Melbourne and Adelaide finished on 38 points with a GD of +12, Melbourne won the league scoring 39 to Adelaide's 31.

The 2007-2008 season was decided by GD, CCM pipping Newcastle by GD difference of 1 goal.

Lots if we include all the times that Warner and Paston have tried.

The SPL came down to goal difference a few years back.

Allegedly

So GCU are 5th in the league for shots on target, but 2nd last for goals scored. How does that work? Are they all at the keeper?

No, at least not unless the stats the commentators kept blabbering on about were incorrect. Gold Coast were apparently near the top for total shots at one stage, but too many of them were off target.

Not sure I believe this as this implies manny played 90 minutes in the games he has started.  Yet he was sent off in one.  Brown the same, although his was in injury time.

Thinking about it some more I'm guessing I have Pav too high, he had about 5 shots in one movement against Gold Coast. Sanchez is probably too high as well.

But that stat was shots on target. I'm still confused.
