Phoenix Team of the First Decade

Over the past 10 seasons, 105 players have worn the Phoenix shirt. Since it is a milestone year, I thought we should celebrate this by selecting the best of them in order to form a Phoenix Team of the First Decade.

So over the next 10 weeks, I thought I would run polls for forumites to vote for who they feel should be selected. These votes will form a team in a 4-3-3 formation & a coach, so each poll will last 2 weeks.

To trim the amount of players eligible for voting to a manageable amount, I have set a minimum of 20 appearances (sorry George & Cleberson fans). The only exceptions being Goal Keepers & current players who should reach the mark this season.

Please remember to vote based on how they performed whilst playing in a Phoenix shirt rather than based on their performances at other clubs.

So lets kick it off with Goal Keepers (Direct Link: Here)

Just checking is the the best players in their prime,  their best form at the nix or their overall contribution to the nix?

Love the concept but sadly can see it ending up the same as the MOM threads back in the day.Where it became not about the performance but the player.

I thought they dies out because people thought they were funny to vote for a sub 80th minute sub as MOM.

Regardless, I desperately hope people can be mature about this.

I like the motm calls, but the club needs to anounce him at  full time, not after 80 minutes, this isnt Rugby. I can see where Ballane is coming from but I hope we are choosing players for their form for the Nix, not because how popular they are as a person.

I encourage people to vote based on a players performances at the Phoenix. Other than that, I will leave it up to the individual voter to decide whether they want to vote based on best form or overall contribution to the club.

Seems JotForm limits responses to 100 for free accounts, which we have now hit. So I've had to change plans and will use Google forms. If you have already voted, please don't vote again.

Could this just end up being 4 CDs shoehorned into a back 4?

It wouldn't be the Nix if we didn't try playing a player out of position!

I selected 3 CBs and a RB.

That is the Phoenix way!

You can select your defenders in any manner you wish, I am fairly confident that we will have a couple selected who can play fullbacks in that lot.

Wonder if they'll be as much recency bias with the defenders as well.

Tony Warner more votes than Reddy?

Beggars belief sadly could have an affect as it moves on.As a matter of interest what formation has been decided on as that could have play apart in voting.Or is it just going to be best players and dosnt matter position.

Final team will be a 4-3-3, whether people wish to consider positions with their voting is up to them.

Shows that only 6% of votes were joke votes. That's not so bad.

I've gone for a two centre halves and two fullbacks, but I think they would be the four I would pick in any case, even if just picking four defenders of any persuasion.

Is it etiquette voting to mention picks while still open? Feel odd about my choice...one, possibly two guys playing out of position, but of course they played there for us a fair bit....and didn't pick a guy who is one of my favourite players...

If you wanna lead the charge for Team Hearfield, go for it (or anyone else).

I chose McKain over Sigmund. Is that bad?

Hearfield was underrated and under used in his proper position. I always had a lot of time for him and he kept on trying.

feeling odd that I didn't pick Siggie...but I went Manny, Boxall, Dura and Rossi....Doyle and Lochy are our best attacking left backs, but that is a solid back four. Manny has to be there, and I thought Boxall did too eventually. Though their best contributions were right back. I thought Dura and Rossi were both better than Siggie, though the Seamonster is one of my favourite players....

McKain played a lot of his time at the club at CM

Both McKain and Muscat spent a reasonable amount of time at DM during their time at the club, so will be included as midfield options also (if not selected in defence). I probably should have mentioned this when I put up the defenders for voting but doubt it would have changed any ones voting.

If you tell me who you voted for, I can work out which one it is & delete those votes, so you can vote again if you wish?
