I wonder how our defnce would have gone with Siggy and Rossi and Dura as a sweeper?

Burns over Krishna. Bleh.

I have 0 affection towards Burns despite his half a good season with us. He didn't give two sharks about the club.

Really? Managers like Guardiola and Conte have had a lot of success bringing the sweeper back.

You know we belong together...

Reckon the same terms might be being used differently. Sweeper in the Chelsea sense (and correct me if I'm wrong) is one of the third CB moving into the midfield line to address strikers to drop deep to receive the ball. Think LG (and correct me if I'm wrong), is having someone behind the backline (usually a back four) to more easily deal with balls in behind the fullbacks.

Anywayback to the team, reckon McKain is probably an unlucky one to miss out. Underrated part of that 2009/10 season. Only 2 seasons probably cost him.

The offside rule tweaks and the end of the backpass to the keeper killed the traditional sweeper role though. The modern version works on the same principle (a spare man at the back) but uses him differently, because if you tried to do it the other way you'd be far too exposed to through balls or pressure on the last man when he's in possession. Man City, Bayern, Barca, Chile etc have given the traditional sweeper roleof mopping up behind the backline to their goalkeepers instead because you can still play an offside trap that way

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.
