I'm curious about the timing of this report. Anyone else wonder why it just so happens that the report was published at a time when the head of NZF is out of town? Add to that the fact that the A-League draw is due for releasetoday.

Maybe there is somethig to this story and maybe there isn't but it just seems to me that the Doom Post has gotten into a routine of "breaking" stories at times when people are not around to refute any claims that are made.

In my opinion it leaves them with very little, if any, credibility!

Hadn't thought about van hattum being out of town but yeah, same day as the draw release had popped up in my mind. Absolutely ludicrous idea. Not wishing to be a martyr but there is no way I will support an auckland phoenix

Classic John Morrision though. He's a Wellington City Councillor so he's trying to beat this up into a Wellington vs Auckland thing. Then he can come out swinging for Wellington like some caped crusader. They did exactly the same thing with the Sevens last year.

In fact check out the opening sentence of this story written last year by none other than.... Dave Burgess!

[QUOTE=some trolling hack in the Doom Post]Auckland and Dunedin are trying to poach the NZI Sevens...

As far as I remember that one turned out OK.

Ah yes, but you are ignoring the fact that they opened a couple of large flash dealerships in Auckland already and all they managed to sell was a 2nd hand E36 series 318i.

Besides management and "media" problems it was obviously a stocking issue then, wasn't it?
Too many used "classics".. not enough track-tested, late model imports and the right mix of local assembled !

But true indeed, (and with advocate's hat firmly on).. as with many things, people ..even Aucklanders..can learn from their mistakes. And ours.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Radio sport news (10am) had the Giltrap group flat out denying that they were going to buy the Phoenix

Telfer is just muckracking. Also giving time to discuss the story of the Highlanders changing the colour of their playing strip.

Nonsense from the man as usual. Trying to stir up emotion without actually addressing the issue rationally.

There isn't much more I will add to the thread that hasn't already been said. Could this be another dumb business move? Surely not. It doesn't make much sense...Eden park? Who are they going to get the Nix to play to fill that stadium?

And the NZ Phoenix? Rising from the Wellington Phoenix ashes I guess right? What a load of shyte. For all the financial hiccups going on, this club is a well supported local club. It's not like we are performing so badly that the owner can afford to drop the few hundred (Knights) supporters, uproot and plonk down in another town. Apart from the financial unknown, we aren't exactly sitting in the ashes of our club. To attach "New Zealand" in the front of our name broadens and devalues our brand in my opinion and gives the owners the excuse to farm out our 'home' games to the highest bidder. Home games in Queenstown and Rotorua anyone?

I'm sick of all this bulls*t.

I just want to wake up one day and know that the off season is finally over and we can get back to being angsty about players and not rubbish news stories!

New Zealand is a country not a football club.

All I can say is why don't they start their own team? You can't just take a team with a massive fan base out of a city.

I'd rather the Phoenix fold and a brand new club be created than have our history and identity stolen by any Auckland group. The Phoenix will always belong in Wellington, regardless of where the license will be.

This ^^
BUT some of this so called bullsh*t may well affect what players we have to be angsty about and where they'll be while we are getting angsty.
But again....I've had enough of the sh*te I just want to watch the Nix in welington

This is just another off season space filler for the papers as far as I can see...that said its getting mighty depressing to hear about all these proposed happenings when I all I want to hear about is new signings, season tickets and fixture lists

Imagine all the players being told they have to move to Auckland?

Create you're own club if you're so keen on one inAuckland. Don't steal ours!

I imagine the players contracts would be void if they wanted out. However this is beginning to sound like complete fiction or at least very badly twisted. I would like John Morrison to reveal the source of his information since all other parties involved have categorically denied it.

Being a living jaffa, well I only live here. Auckland should form there own team, leave Wellington alone and stop being greddy

The opening paragraph of the story on Stuff has now been changed to "A Wellington City councillor has accused New Zealand Football of not being upfront over behind-the-scenes discussions involving the Wellington Phoenix", which puts a slightly different slant on it.

By far my favourite comment on the Stuff website so far is this one...

someone called Zyan on Stuff wrote:
Come on, Wellyzens, go and buy your season passes. 10,000 passes for 2011/12 season! Let Colin Giltrap and Van Hattum suck each others balls up there.

On a serious note, it wouldn't work. IMO the best option is to have 3 - 4 games on the road and the rest in Wellington every season

Smoke and mirrors and politicking......go away Auckland and NZFC.  Wellington Phoenix would need to be renamed the Auckland Vultures and change to play in blue...yuk.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

I disagree WYO. Unless you're trolling then bravo sir!

If you can't sustain your club from your own town then you shouldn't have a club. Pimping your teams home games to other towns and cities doesn't excite me.

This isn't Super Rugby.

Oh dear - this thread is both amusing and anger inducing in equal measures.

Wellintonians - go and watch Team Wellington. Aucklanders - go and watch City.

Football for everyone.

Tim - you hit the nail on the head that you wouldn't support an Auckland based Phoenix. Would you then watch TW or just miss out altogether. The Phoenix benefits a minority of the population. The ASBP benefits the majority.

Lets' see what happens.

BUT, in five years time when the rebranded struggling black & blue shirted Auckland-based New Zealand Nicks face the newly (re)formed yellow and black striped (just like the old days) FC WELLINGTON Phoenix in the opening game of the expansion season .... I WILL BE THERE!

F**k yeah!

I know, I know, its serious!

The talk isn't about Team Wellington or Auckland City though! You would hope they get support. But this isn't about Team Wellington moving to Auckland. This is about the Nix and Auckland wanting them again.

Sure but all you 'Nix fans keep banging on about sour grapes at AKL losing the A-League franchise and hypocritically all I'm getting from this thread is a strong wiff of sour grapes at a mere hint of the Nix moving.

Then no city in NZ should have a professional football club.
