I would suggest that Tony's emoticon suggests there is a shortage of substance to at least some of those names...

From the SMH:

In transfer news, fringe Socceroos winger Ahmad Elrich is poised to join minor premiers Central Coast Mariners after rejecting offers from Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United.

Its a two year deal for the 23 year old midfielder who prefers the left wing so Daniel will push into the middle of the pitch for Phoenix this season.
The Phoenix are going to announce 3 more signings tomorrow in the form of David Mulligan, Joel Porter And Shannan Cole From Port Vale, Hartlepool And Sydney United Respectively.

All good for us, even IF he finds form we can/will/have better

isn't  that exactly the level Royce was at??

yep i think so, I thought we'd aim a bit higher (e.g championship) but I guess Porter has a better international record (or  not?? ) and seems to be scoring more regulalry than Brownlie was (again - or not?)

Porter must be better than Brownlie. Is Porter signed?

Royce played 15 games for Swindon and scored 2 goals - also went on loan to Chester City - played 4 times without scoring.
Latest stats I could find on Porter was that he's started 105 times Hartlepool, come off the bench 47 times and scored 39 goals plus has 6 goals in 4 appearences for Oz

Wellington Phoenix will sign Hartlepool's Australian striker Joel Porter as well being in talks with the League One side's veteran defender Robbie Elliott whose previous clubs include Newcastle, Sunderland, Bolton and Leeds.

The Nix are close to signing N.Z. Port Vale's All White right back David Mulligan, and Fulham off-contract Kiwi Simon Elliott.

Ivan Vicelich the All Whites veteran has already indicated to Pignata that he wants to play out his career in Wellington and may sign for the coming season.

The odds seem to have changed with this quote from Tony P in Saturdays Dom Post

"Pignata added that the chances of securing the signature of Australian striker Joel Porter were now "50-50".
The fringe Socceroos player is currently plying his trade with English League One outfit Hartlepool and the Phoenix are keen to nab the 29-year-old as support for season one standout Shane Smeltz.
"I don't think [Porter's] season finishes till May.
"But we've had a chat with him to see what his intentions were and we'll progress it over the next few weeks," Pignata said.
"We want to tidy the squad up sooner rather than later.""

If that's true then it'd be brilliant news.  I've never heard of Robbie Elliot though.

I understand our squad size must be 20 to 23 players. Does anyone have a good fix on where we sit at the moment re committed and uncommitted players i.e. something like;

Committed for 2 years; Durante, McCain, Bertos, Lia

Committed for 1 year;

Contract up and renewal decision to be made;

That didn't copy and paste well did it!

Those are Robbie Elliotts career stats. League, FA, League Cup and Other as you go left to right. Below that are the games he's played this season for Hartlepool. He'll be 35 this year so not sure if he's who we want to be signing given the speed of some the attacks we'll be up against.

I would think that the Elliot rumour goes out the window now that we've signed Durante and McCain

agree with the concerns about Elliot's pace, that's probably one of the reasons we let Rees go

From this mornings 4 nil over Gillingham for Hartlepool.

Then, after 26 minutes Joel Porter beat two Gillingham defenders on a run from his own half before chipping keeper Derek Stillie for a great solo goal.

Yeah but if Ross goes then Elliott would take his place - the libero role - McKain more of an out n out stopper rather than a deep lying playmaker - think Lothar Matteus type role for Simon.

This from this mornings match report v Gillingham - sounds promising if he does come.

I think the conversation was about Robbie Elliott, Tony. But at least you've quashed another rumour.

Porter looks the  goods to me.
If Smeltz can come from a lower level in the UK( Conference) and end up second best striker in the A-League then Porter who has shone in the higher 1st league wil be great for us.
lSounds like its only 50/50 according to Terry P. He still has an option with Hartepool for next season. Come on Joel...sign with us. Promise we will never mention the nose(have you seen his photo)

If he doesn't sign I am not sure what the other options are. There have been no other rumours.

If he plays 1/10th like him, then he'll do me.
