Phoenix Transfer - speculation (Part 1)
Like McKain, Porter is at the peak of his career and has chosen to join Phoenix ahead of more lucrative offers to remain in Europe.
A dog with a bone :)

It sounds likely lads, but please remeber that Tribal Football is only slightly above the 4-4-2 Rumour Mill in the credibility stakes.
442 rumour mill in overdrive again, very hard to believe we will sign all these guys, would be awesome though.
The Nix are close to signing N.Z. Port Vale's All White right back David Mulligan, and Fulham off-contract Kiwi Simon Elliott.
Ivan Vicelich the All Whites veteran has already indicated to Pignata that he wants to play out his career in Wellington and may sign for the coming season.
- Tony was quoted in the paper last week as having two more signatures from the European jaunt, so 3/5ths of those would be untrue.
- The Porter thing has now come from 4 different sources, that is usually a sign that it's happening.
- My order of likely to least likey for the others ? MUlligan, R. Elliott, Ivan, Si Elliott.
Its no longer a problem.

Joel Porter arrived from his native Australia in 2003 with 112 games already under his belt including scoring 6 times in 4 games for the Australian national side. Neale Cooper offered the striker a short term spell after unsuccesful trials at Sunderland and Wigan Athletic. Joel struggled in his early days at Victoria Park but scored his first goal in the telivised game with Burton Albion in the FA Cup. Porter went on to score 4 more times in his first season with Pools including a goal in the Play-Off semi final against Bristol City.
Neale Cooper awarded him an 18 month contract in January 2004 and Joel benifitted from a full pre season before the 2004/05 campaign. During this season he formed a formidable patnership with Adam Boyd and scored 15 times, his good form won him the 2004/05 Supporters` Player of the Season.
Porter then suffered a serious knee injury which kept him out of the Hartlepool first team for 10 months as Pools were relegated to League Two. Porter returned to the first team in the 2006/07 season scroing 4 goals in 15 starts, however he picked up another serious injury which kept him out for a further 5 months. Porter returned to first team action in April and featured in Pools last six games, scoring once.
"Joel Porter is a pacy striker who has suffered a series terrible injuries in the past couple of years, he may seem injury prone but is a big threat up front when he is in the side"
, so i wonder if that indicates someone else is also in the frame?I would be happy with Joel Porter...as long as he is fit. Remember Smeltzy was playing in England at a similar level and didn't really set the world on fire. Then we got him back to the Phoenix and he was one of the best strikers in the A-League last season.
Get Porter over here early. Give him a good preseason buildup and he'll fire up. Remember its a hell of a motivation playing infront of 12,000 in the ROF. Compare that to playing on some cold wet mudheap in Hartepool, in front of the groundsman and his dog.
I think we have to be realistic. We would all love to have a bigname striker sign for the Phoenix. But you are talking millions of $$$. John Aloisi has just gone to Sydney for over $1 million AUD and he is a player that wouldn't get a look in the EPL. Also he's not the sort of player to win matches single handedly. what do we know about Robbie Elliot????????I would be happy with Joel Porter...as long as he is fit. Porter has played in League One, Smeltzy only got to the conference.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I wasn't having a go at you, just having a wee pop at the 4-4-2 rumour mill.Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
