Wheres Chris James playing, pretty sure hes not at Fulham.
He and Leo = Midfield sorted.
Any ideas on a strike partner for Shane? Who are they looking at?
Any ideas on a right & centre back to plug the sh*thouse defensive? Who are they looking at?

Someone must KNOW something

Is there any chance of getting Winston Reid to go back to NZ?

He's playing first team in the Danish Premier League at the age of 18 and has been linked to clubs like Everton.  I don't see it.

I think he has a good shot at the U20 Denmark and would remain in Denmark to gain much need training and club experience that he would never get in NZ. So until he turns 20, which is about a couple of years time, he would then ready for NZ internationals if he decides to jump ship.

You can effectively write of him and most of the other NZers in the Europe off for the meanwhile. Because it is too much of a good thing there. He would be silly to come to Phoenix if he is in demand in Europe and is spotted by Everton. He's very lucky to have a dual citizenship and should make the most of it. I only hope that he would apply to FIFA to change his "switch" his allegiance before his 21st birthday.

I wonder if Ricky should look at signing Milan Rapaic, a former Croatian international. He's currently without a club, and looking to sign for someone. His best years are clearly behind him, but in his day he's played for Hajduk, Perugia, Fenerbahce,Ancona and Standard Liege, played Champions League games, and has 52 appearences for Croatia. His most famous moment was probably scoring against Italy in the 2002 World Cup, a game which Croatia won 2-1.
He wouldn't be good enough for marquee status, but seems desperate to play, so he shouldn't cost much...

More background on this link (in Croatian though, tried to find an English translation but couldn't):

Feverish, have we not previously advised that a kebab is not Greek. A souvlaki on the other hand, is.

Just read that article about Danny Hay calling for a cull of players at the Phoenix. He was talking sense until he said Lia, Rees, and Dodd all have to go before next season.

I suggest he's looking for an open door to the Phoenix. Can we please close that particular door now? Danny Hay fits into the same category he puts the two defensive Steve's into.

You make a good point el grapadura.  The club needs to think laterally about recruiting imports/marquee players.  There are some excellent players out there who may be 'over the hill' in terms of European football but still have 2 or 3 years of excellent football left in them in a competition like the A-League.  And there will be players out there outside the European/UK powerhouses who would be huge assets to the Phoenix and the A-League.  I guess it's up to Ricki and Tony P to identify them.

did anyone see the rumour about denilson coming to the phoenix

Hi LG,

I would like to see Vaughan Coveny given a go at Centre Back - has anyone suggested this before! he is just a half yard too slow to be an effective striker, that said, his knowledge of the game, would allow another youngster to learn from him!
With Rees and Lockhead balancing each other, this would mean only one more defender to get it right, playing 4-4-2

A whole lot of speculation going on in Sydney, some already commented on

https://www.stuff.co.nz/4380941a18075.html

Sydney have already begun reshaping their squad for next season, with Perth Glory midfielder Simon Colosimo confirmed as a recruit this week, and Newcastle Jets striker Mark Bridge expected to announce his arrival in the next week.

Heading in the other direction could be utility Zadkovich, who has opened discussions with the Jets, while veterans Ufuk Talay [Avispa Fukuoka] and David Zdrilic [released] are definitely leaving. Brazilian pair Patrick and Juninho are likely to follow.

Perth Glory midfielder Mitchell Prentice is another possible arrival, while Peruvian striker Bruno Salas, 22, has impressed during his trial, and could be offered a deal if Sydney can arrange a loan spell with a NSW Premier League club.

Another player who could come under consideration is Jordanian international Siraj Al Tall, who is trialling with NSWPL club Sydney Olympic, and made his debut in the pre-season Johnny Warren Cup last weekend. The 25-year-old striker arrived in the country a fortnight ago, and is keen to play in the A-League after spending most of his career with 2007 AFC Cup finalists Al-Faisaly.

Former Socceroos utility Milan Blagojevic, now coaching Sydney Olympic, said: "He's a bit short of match practice, and obviously it's one thing to play up front and another thing to score goals. Everyone wants a goalscorer.

"But I like what I see, and he could be good enough for the A-League. It's early days, but his touch is impressive, and you can see he knows his way around the park."

Hopefully Joel Griffiths, just to piss HN off.
Though Tarek Elrich is doing pretty well at right full back.

I would like a player like Archie Thompson statue, 29 years old, very experience and have plenty of years to go and is born in New Zealand with Australian international experience. He would thrive on our midfield ball service. He could be our Marquee player and not Melbourne's if the price is right. Of course, it depends on what we can get for the defence tho.

Incorrect - Smeltz is representing the Phoenix.

I doubt Anelka is representing the Nix, unless he's a closet fan

You seriously wouldn't take Thompson? It would never happen but yeah.

I don't see why people don't like him. He's pretty awesome. Always speaks his mind and seems like a good guy tbh. He has a lot of brain explosions when talking to the media though.

What the man does in his spare time is of no interest to me.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
