Phoenix Transfer - speculation (Part 1)

I meant that Ricky is an asset to us. Not only cause he's the AW's coach, but also because he's respected and more than anything he's capable. And he's kiwi. I can't think of anyone else I'd like as the Phoenix coach.

Aloisi? I'm not too keen on him. He hasn't lived up to the expectations (yet) and he must be veeeery expensive. For that amount of money shouldn't we sign someone like Killen, Rukavitstya or some other marksman?

You know, I think that deep down this "we need 2 new strikers" business scares me so much is because I really don't know who we could/should sign.

I mean, the players whose contract expires next year aren't that exciting. I don't know if I'd like us to sign some old European player at the end of his career. Or a new South American who could turn out to be awesome, or could turn out to be George.

I really wish Smeltzy was staying.

I think it would be a major coup if we somehow got John Aloisi. Players have purple patches and lean spells. Next season he could be banging them in. To miss the two sitters he did yesterday he was at least in the right position to miss them.

Couldn't agree more. Smeltz is in such red hot form...every game he gets better and better. Poll on SBS football easily had him as the best striker in the A-League. Absolutely gutted that he won't be here next year. Him and Bertos are forming a great attacking duo.

Obviously we need a good replacement striker....but also high on my list would be a creative attacking midfielder. We need a Fred type player. Hearfield doesn't have the skills and Daniel seems to be out of favour.  I think we will have to recruit at least three strikers/attacking midfielders for next year in the hope that at least two turn out to be gems. Recruitment is such a lottery...its a bit like buying a used car...you don't know what youv'e got till you try it out properly!!!

If you cut his salary but that much you'd probably be able to afford him on your own. Think how cool! you could have him play for Karori..he'd make you look even better than you are!! (and that's a big compliment coming from me!!)

It's Xmas guys, Love all round!

We really do need to seriously consider bringing back George. Play him as an out-and-out striker and the golden boot will be his.

The club shouldn't be so proud that they can't admit they were wrong.

after his recent form id say he would settle for a little less.

It's not as though they were isolated incidents yesterday - Aloisi's missed a lot of easy chances this season. I remember in our first round win against Sydney he put one onto the post from a foot out: a horrible miss (luckily for us) that would've put them 2-0 up and just about killed the game off.

He and Van Dijk have been the two least impressive strikers in the A League so far, but at least Van Dijk is finally starting to show some quality at the right time. Alosi is simply an embarrassment. A man of that experience simply has to lead the way and earn a wage that big, no excuses.
Even so, I thought he was very good at CCM. If he played like that and we got him cheapish I'd also have him.

Take some of the pressure off, give him a big long draft of Yellow Fever and none of that Sydney bs, and I reckon he could be happier.

How old is he? He's not that sharp in terms of pace anymore is he?

Bertos, Ferrante, Brown, McKain and Daniel providing some service, Smeltzy giving him a few pointers- how to find the crossbar from 2 feet that kind of thing...

ahhh well. someone throw a quality name out there. Shiite. how in the world can we replace Shane Smeltz? As long as he does alright in our world cup campaign and sh*te ffor the coast.

George is 30 in March and he still has a lot of pace on him. I think he'd take Coveny in a sprint.

He also missed a pen against CCM before getting asked to retake it because a CCM player encroached.

Robbie Fowler has been released by new Blackburn after manager Sam Allardyce decided not to extend his contract.

Fowler, 33, was signed by former Rovers boss Paul Ince on a three-month "pay-as-you-play" deal, which expires at the end of December.

Grimsby confirmed two weeks ago that they were in talks to bring Fowler in on a player-coach role.

Defensive coach Nigel Winterburn, who was signed on a part-time basis in July, also leaves Ewood Park.

Allardyce said: "We have decided to let Robbie Fowler go. His contract was due for renewal and I decided not to renew that.

606: DEBATE

"I also spoke to Nigel Winterburn today to say that, from my point of view, in terms of specialist defensive coaching, I think I can look after that area myself now."

of technically transfer speculation, but anyone know what's happening with draper's contract? It's up at the end of the season right? Considering he's one of two out and out strikers we have remaining I would have thought we might have heard more, especially as he will still be under 20 and has been scoring reserve team goals his season

We could easily afford Fowler coz he would come under the celery cap coz we would be paying him with bags of white powder

Sorry I'm meaning the teams which have played against hbu and waitakere which have been made up mostly of squad players who haven't been making the team on a regular basis. Draper scored two in each of those games. Should have made myself clearer

would like to see Draper get a run at a higher level soon, we know Costa is pretty good by aleague standards and is worth holding on to, but we still haven't seen Draper get an opportunity

If Costa's up to a-league level than Draper definitely is.

Hope so! I was totally anti him when he signed for CCM last season but he won me over. He's a character and would do a lot for the club, on and off the pitch. I've no doubt he would play to the fans as well, will definitely provide some memorable moments if we sign him.

He's good from a marketing perspective as well!

I am a fan but we surely don't really need him? Paston with an up and comer such as Spoonley would be sufficient in the goal keeping stakes? If need be we can always source injury cover.

is it really such a good thing if spoonley signs and just sits on the bench tho?
he needs to get consistant game time to develop
Permalink Permalink
about 17 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Well perhaps not Spoonley specifically, but would it be a good idea to have a keeper as good as Paston or Bozza on the bench? Perhaps better for a promising younger keeper to be getting training in a professional environment.

I must have missed all the A-League games he's played. Which one in particular made him pretty good by A-League standards?

that one game he started against CCM last year
