Gouldy has a headshot as one of the goalkeepers in the teams new set of shots for this season. This mean anything perhaps??

Also, who is Paul Nancarrow?

Do you know him as a player? If so, please elaborate. I personally have never seen him play, so of course will reserve judgement untill I see him or Ricki decides he doesn't have what he's got.

Lochhead looking frightened of the Cameraman as always.

Gould was included in goal keepers for last season as well. He is like a last resort if the Crow and St Paston get royally f**ked.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Positive article this. Also indicates that Vieira is unlikely with three of the signings overseas still. And then one All White makes 4 signings? However it did sort of sound like the third signing might not be so likely. Hopefully we get some positive news over the next week.

article seems to suggest 4 signings is cut down to 3, neglects the australian so maybe that was  the pavlovic guy...

i still hold in hope that maybe its because we have already wrapped up the signature of North =)

Would love to see Gouldy forced on at some stage of the season (preferably when we're 10 points ahead with one game to go)

I got from the article that everyone that we are trialling is a backup option or a youth option...defenitely haven't seen the all white or the asian ex-international (Nakamura? Nakata? ??? place your guess!) Hope the South American isn't Viera...but who knows?

He's been quiet so far, but he may have more...

Nope but I saw his video of him outperforming the most dire of defences and I know that the A-League defences are at a far higher level (don't laugh) and all of this happens before I look at his club history - and yes I'm aware about Smeltz club history before we signed him.

Remember a while back while Nakata was playing for Bolton, but he retired quite young

The above article that was posted on the previous page mentions that after the game Herbert was on the phone with 3 players (a South American, a Kiwi, and an Australian) so I'm guessing that pretty much rules Viera out as the South American unless he was an additional one?
EDIT: My logic possibly flawed as turns out Viera stayed in NZ due to Visa issues so Ricki could easily have been on phone to him.  I just figured if Viera was with him he wouldn't be out phoning him.

I reckon at least one signing will be announced by Friday.  Certainly hope so anyway.  I'm starting to wonder more and more if the All White in question is Simon Elliotttt and that part of that previous article saying it wasn't him was just to throw us off (like Nelsen pulling out of All Whites games with a hamstring strain when he'd just fallen out with Ricki).  I mean, isn't he coming to Wellington just for the parade?  Surely nobody would go from California to NZ just for the parade?

Good news because Jardel scored how many goals against much better defenders - so imagine how well he'd go in the A-League.

Do you feel intelligent trying to outdo me with your quick and clever wit?

My reasons more than stand up.  He looked somewhat good against a very, very poor defence and I don't think he'd cut it.  Plus, that type of video shows you at your best, yet a number of the different clips of him within that video showed him failing to score.  I'm sure you've said you do/not want a player based on limited knowledge in the past.  Plus, this is a forum and compared to some of the tripe that gets posted on here, my offhand comment was surely passable.

And wasn't Jardel 34, not far off 35?  And somewhat fat?  A bit different, clearly.

Herbert on Deaker this afternoon.

My take on his transfer comments; We are actively pursuing players who will make a difference but are struggling to get them across the line. Hopeful of having a couple signed up by Aug 1 FFA deadline. No details (e.g. current league or nationality) on who we are after. We are behind where we would ideally like to be because of the WC (Herbert's words not mine).

I think we have 17 signed (?) - if we get 2 "names" and a youth player that gets us to the FFA minimum of 20.

I wouldn't be holding your breath for signings - I think it will be another week or so - hopefully I'm wrong.

P.S. Ifill's mate won't be signed.

I may hold my breath anyhow. While the WC was a worthy distraction, it means I have to get an entire off-seasons panic into a few short weeks!

I just want players that are good enough - I don't care what Youtube clips there are of them. If Ricki decides that this guy is the one who can score a bunch of goals for it, and gives him a contract, then he has my full support. It won't 'fill me with dread'.

Different players adapt to the league differently (that was my point with Jardel and what you said about Smeltz) so there is always the chance that this guy could be a revelation.

He could be pants too, I'm just thinking that limited knowledge of a player shouldn't mean fans are "filled with dread" from the outset. Innocent until proven guilty is my thinking here.

I agree. I'd also prefer to see more of a player before I pass judgement. The Macallister bashing seems to have stopped. Trust in Ricki!

There's every reason to be skeptical of a player whose past doesn't inspire you with confidence.  Infact, I think it's quite natural.  Many of these players don't turn out to be great players like Smeltz so my reservations are certainly founded.  That's not to say if we did sign him that I would be anti-Viera for the duration of his contract.  And I wouldn't hope he failed so I could have told you so, but there are plenty of quality South Americans out there, and going by what I've seen, read, and heard I'd like a better one - I can only go by those things and they are very limited but too bad.  If we sign him, though, and he does well I'll be more than happy to congratulate him.  Also, this instinct has been fairly good in the past, I was skeptical about Mart Poom*, and whammy, 100% correct.

*Not the best example as you can be skeptical on almost every Arsenal goalie but you get my point.

Starting to get concerned that any old random will be signed just because we need 20 players very soon.

Viera has basically come from a pub team so I'm not sure if he'll be signed...

Also a bit worried to hear Ricki say that we are struggling to get them over the line.

on that basis, we might see Ricki walk up in to the zone at halftime v Boca, place a blind fold on, spin round 3 times and point to any one of us

at this point (in this particular daydream) he strides towards said punter and whips out a contract for him to sign

problem solved ...

The NZer = Ryan Nelsen.
The South American = Lionel Messi.

I don't think it's set in stone though    so don't start the 'Sack Ritchie!1' calls if we haven't signed anyone after the 10 days

What about Jarrod Smith who is currently playing in NZ and used to play at a good level at the MLS?

I would realistically like

South American: Riquelme or Fred
Aisian: Nakamura
New Zealander: Tommy Smith or Fallon

assuming its the players I say first then we would have a dream team if we also get Jade North:

                   Paston
T.Hearfield J.North A.Durrante    T.Smith

                  T.Brown
        Nakamura        Riquelme
L.Bertos
                                    Ifill
            C.Greenacre/Big Mac
Bench:
R.Crowther
B.Sigmund/M.Muscat/T.Lochhead
V.Lia/Daniel/Diego
C.Greenacre/D.MacAlistair

Sounds good for me! =]

Nakamura? The dude who played for Celtic? I'd be very surprised if we could pay his wages.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
