Three for me, and two for them.

Thre's a lot to be said for a workhorse midfielder. They tend to prevent the opposition opening up space, having time to create openings, and making untracked runs. While you can't always point just to one individual, when someone doesn't seem to contribute much, it lets the side down.

They were asking on the radio today why George Paladini had such a big following here. Good question.

i don't think some of the players being bagged should be being bagged really. We may have come last but we have done reasonably good.

Yep it's been a successful season in many ways. Not many points between top and bottom, so we weren't far away really. The last place finish could be deceptive, and nobody should dwell on it.

Yeah it is. I mean whats the difference between finishing 5th and 10 pts from 4th or 8th and 5 pts from 4th for example.

Three for me, and two for them.

Let's be honest, the pendulum could have swung differently in 5 or so games, and we would be there or thereabouts.

But things like terrible defence let us down continually, and that's not an issue that can be avoided. It has to be dealt with.

not even taking into consideration what contracts they are on (we've shown that we'll get rid of people no matter what), I think the following will be gone for next season:

Paston, Old, Rees, Brown, Aloisi, Coveny, Brownlie, Christie and Elrich.

Herbert is off to Europe with Tony P scouting later this month. Be interesting to see who they trains their sights on.

Any picks for a defender or 4?

I think Brown and Elrich will be staying and Rees will be gone. Dunno about the rest tho'.

But He hustles Defenders and does it well, he gets in there way plus he scored a great header

I'm thinking there needs to be some pretty drastic changes, simply to make us more competative in the A League. The A League is a pretty good competition and if we are to get ourselve soff the bottom we need better players than what we;ve got and better players than most of the other teams have.

I'm convinced we will get better players. Remember this year it was all put together in a real hurry. A scouting mission this month and the fact the Phoenix have put their stake firmly in the ground, means they will attract players. That's a real positive.

Herbert is the man for the job - no doubt.

I think he's done well but, at the of the day, a band-aid was all he was.

I think the fact that we've apparently offered Durante a deal shows the kind of defenders we're looking at. I'd reckon we'll be signing at least one, probably two, central defenders. I suspect Ricki will also be after a right-back as well.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

yes, there can be no excuses next season, we have time to get it right. Ricki seemed to make some odd coaching and substitution choices this season and that was probably down to doing the best with what he's got. Same with him, there can be no excuses next year either. It should be an interesting year for all of us.

Great game for Costa, it was really nice to see one of our forwards running at defenders and getting into space.  Can't wait for him to develop into a class player :)

Hi Guys, great result for us,  sorry about the weather however in the conditions a good crowd.

FYI what I found interesting other than the game tonight was the respect the Nix's have earned from the football public. The Auckland teams were considered a bad joke and so to was their management by the fans in general. But you guys have earnt respect which YF has been a large part of given the number of people who pop into have a look at YF. To our credit not one bad word or chant to Ross A, as he was so professional when he spoke Johnny A, about us.

The Nix's are considered as good as any team, supported by a excellent management and a great lot of loyal fans something other NZ teams could only dream off well done.

If I can offer to YF a small bit of advise ( I am sure your coaching staff know this already) but each year the league is improving and Hal 3, was ahead of Hal 1. So when planning for Hal 4 all teams wll need Hal 3 + to be competitive.

Thanks for great stories and good luck for next year.

 Finally come on Whangarei

I think Rees proved that he  is no more than a stop gap yet again. We should definately be looking to fill his spot.

Dodd is the one that does all the covering.

Paston's on a 2 year contract and well worth keeping (no pun intended!)

I rate Ree's but folks are starting to persuade me that we should look to do better (short contract, makes it easier for all concerned)

Elrich (as people have said) he's not on marquee wages, so might be worth hanging onto with some high expectations and perhaps a change in position/playing style

Tim Brown - give the guy an injury free pre-season and first half of the season and I believe we will see more from him

Rickie said that next year they will play 4,4,2 and the recruiting off season will be to find the players to play that formation. So I guess we can expect a quality right back and a couple of central defenders.

Which means that many of the current squad in those positions could start packing their bags. Nice to see Costa and Draper go OK but I think we will recruit a key striker.

Unlike many on this forum I would like to see Elrich stay.....perhaps playing more of a central attacking role. The guy has a good first touch, can shoot strongly and knows how to pass(not cross) accurately. He just looked a little lost hard out on the wing this season.

Yeah Elrich did good when he came off the bench. I think we should keep him and see how he goes next season.

How the Sunday Herald gave the keeper Moss such a good write up a couple of weeks ago is beyond me ... did he pay them ??? Bloody useless and the F and A record is the proof .. he has let so many easy golas in it ain't funny ... and seeing him go off at every other player on the field when the ball sails past him into the back of the net is a bloody disgrace ...

They are no better , actually the table would indicate actually worse , than the Knights , Kings etc ...
