Just returned from the game.  Nix a bit patchy in the first half,  definately much improved second half.  Bertos was my man of the match,  Dodd also played well

just to clarify - it was not my intention to humiliate SB, having stuffed up on here myself (though perhaps not that spectacularly - i can't remember who I've pissed off or how often) i later apologised -we all moved on (and i probably learnt something)

same in this case, i guess

I watched the Perth V Victory game on Saturday night and to be honest both sides looked poor.
I know both teams had first choice players out but with 20 mins. to go I was ready to pack my bags and leave.
It was a poor game and Perth will be fielding basically the same side against Adelaide as the have their under 23's away.
i would think on what I saw Adelaide should win and win well.
Hope i'm wrong.

Incidentally lads and lasses, not sure if we've picked this up but the PSC final is Wednesday next week, not the following weekend.

So long as CCM don't win at Queensland, a draw will be enough to see us in the final.

Assuming Ricki wants to give everyone a run I suspect our team will look something like this for the Sydney game:

------------------------------------------Moss------------------------------------------------------

Mulligan--------------------Durante----------------Mckain---------------------------- Lochhead

-----------------------------Dodd--------------------Christie------------------------------------

Bertos-------------------------------Kwasnik---------------------------------------------------Gao

 --------------------------------------------Smeltz----------------------------------------------------

Bench:

Paston
Costa
Draper
Johnson

Possibly Daniel starting ahead of Bertos. Draper may not make the bench (Hearfield would perhaps make more sense to have given that he could cover for Mulligan at RB if needed).

Dodd is suspended, McKain is likely to be sitting it out because of the suspension risk.

Is Brown available for selection ?
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Shoutout for TV3!!! They just had a clip of yesterdays game on. TV3 still No1.

yep, great to see

what is it with TV 1?- i realis that TV 3 are doing better than some might have expected in covering the Nix but surely TV1 should be at least attempting to match tv 3's performance

I've never written to a Minister of parliament - but the minisiter of bradcasting might get a wee letter about pathetic efforts of TV 1 in covering the Phoenix,

I believe that the minister and the channel are shielded from each other in  terms of operational decisions but at least writing the letter will make me feel better

Im sorry Tigers but the point was made earlier and it is more than fair.
This is a pre season game in some suburban park in Queensland. Good on Tv3 for covering it but i never expected anything. Every NPC team played warm up games over the weekend and unless All Blacks were playing in them they werent covered, not even the mighty steamers beating Waikato 44-40 or Tasman betaing Auckland which are both arguably bigger stories than the Phoenix simply drawing.
Good on TV3 and they do do a much better job but a bit of perspective would be good

football is an area in which i totally lack perspective - ask my wife

the only way things change is if people make them change

if tv 3 can do it, then so can tv 1

tv 1 just can't be bothered and tv 3 can,

so, as a citizen in what passes for a democracy i reserve my right to advise the minister of my concerns

besides with the election coming up, i might as well get in before the non-football nutters

Maginificent from TV3!!!! Exceeding expectations. I love it. That was a super bonus seeing those goals. The comparisons with rugby pre-season etc are irrelevant. THere is always some rugby on our sports news, so the rugbyheads always get their fix. At the moment, there is no footy other than the PS cup, so TV3 were smart enough to show it. Top work Gourdie.

It has now got to the point that TV3 is so far ahead over a sustained period, that it would take some monumental performance by TVNZ over perhaps six months for them shift TV3 from its status as the football channel.

TV3 seem to recognise there is a gap in the market and that the growth opportunities for football in NZ are just massive. I think the difference in attitude between the two networks is fascinating. I dont know whether it is a case of personalities and individuals such as Andrew Gourdie taking an interest and advocating for the sport (Im sure thats part of it) or something more fundamental to psyche's of two networks. TVNZ seems to see itself as the traditional establishment (a bit like the NZRFU) doing what it has always done, covering sport it has always covered, and treating NZ football with disdain (bc thats the cliched attitude the media has always had towards football in NZ), whereas TV3 is always looking to innovate and come up with new ideas for grabbing TVNZ's audience and market. Im sold.

Having said all of that ...

I dont watch TV1 news anymore (out of protest) so wouldnt have a clue what, if any, Nix or football they had tonight

Ricki said he wants to give everyone in the squad a go before the season proper. If so i'd like to see Costa and Draper have a run to see how they go and how much they have improved.

Mulligan might start no with the suspension.

nicely put ML, pretty much what  i was getting at - but , thankfully, your post was clearer and more in depth than my two

and TV 3 widened the gap further tonight

aren't the warriors pre-season game results mentioned? that'd be a better analogy
