Couldn't be more proud.

This was a fantastic effort from the Phoenix, yeah they were more up for it than West Ham, but the quality of the performance cannot be belittled.

Riera, Gorrin, Burns is a great middle.

Cant wait to see West Ham stuff the hell out of Sydney and Phoenix to take it to the Geordies on Saturday!

Brilliant stuff, well done to Ernie and co, and well done to the organisers, this was 5000 times more of an event than last night

Cracking result that. West Ham were truly horrendous, but we battled hard and for 70 minutes at least were really good.

Squad is still a bit light in depth but midfield is looking quite strong.

Sweet.  Getting Wow, etc from my non-reg Nix mates.  Another good performance Sat will help crowd numbers early season.

Thanks for the feed links.

Woot woot!!!!

You have to love that. Nice scenes in the Fever zone as well.

Riera is a beast.....fingers crossed he plays every minute of next season. Doyle looks OK as well. We just beat a EPL club......preseason or not that is quite an achievement. Big Sam will be spitting tacks after this one.

Crowd got into as well....seemed like a good atmosphere especially at the end.

Bring on N'castle

Are you talking about the wank you just had ? Surely not about the pre season 'game' we just witnessed.

Moss 7 - Did nothing wrong and looked to be talking a lot.

Manny 7 - Defended Jarvis well, and tracked hard when he did get in behind. Did not look to get forward at all.

Siggy and Durante 8 - rock solid, strong in the air and held shape well. Bar for the last 20 we never seemed under threat too much.

Doyle 10 - for a guy on trial I am trying to thin what he did wrong. Made one one tackles. looked to play it out and was strong. MOM pike by mu feed commentator.

Riera 9 - a couple sloppy passes early, but man he looks a player. Good passing and some deft touches to beat players.

Gorrin 8 . 5 - looks very similar to Riera, plays the ball well off both feet, calm and scored a good goal. Disappeared a little towards the end.

Boyd and brockie 6 - worked hard but both were starved of ball.

Burns 7 - won us the free kick with a nice touch and looked our most threatning player up top. Again lack of ball saw him fall out of the game.

Rindenton and Cunningnham - chased hard, but little else. Good to Ridenton push off Vaz Te and not be weak which was an issue for him last year.

We look very well organised at the back and dangerous on the counter. Looking forward to seeing what we can do come the start of the season. But in Gorrin and Riera we have the making on the best CM pairing in the league IMO.

When Riera isn't in his football gear does he wear shirts with frilly collars and cuffs and carry a rapier for duelling?

Damn I wish Riera was a little younger. Too bad we didn't cotton on to him earlier..

We are literally two different teams with and without him.

I think we will be lucky to hold on to him beyond this season.

He was the best CM on the park by some way and surely had people noticing. Lock him down Merrick for three more please.

nufc mate, lighten up. Don't think anyone is under any illusions that it was anything more than a good run out - still; good to start the season with a win over an EPL side..

If nothing else, it will get a few more to the next game.

Yeah Riera does make such a huge difference to our shape. Always so calm with the ball too

Riera must have the widest field of vision you could imagine -  almost 360 degrees.

If I had that nose, I couldn't even make it out of the changing room.

Phoenix stun West Ham

The Wellington Phoenix brought professional football back to Auckland with a bang tonight, beating English Premier League side West Ham United 2-1 at Eden Park.

The Hammers, who have an annual turnover of nearly $200 million, dominated possession but were outclassed in the attacking third by one of the smallest professional football clubs in the world in an exciting, open, end to end match.

Exactly. We could have been total shite like Sydney last night. We weren't. We played well and earned respect for a cheap little bunch of players from doon sooth. What else could the Football Tour have come up with , that was a very enjoyable game and I really did appreciate seeing West Ham
