STAND UP FOR THE LADS!!!

That was hands down the bravest show this team has put on in its short history. Congratulations guys. You've done yourselves and the club proud.

Who would've thought we'd be still in with a rough chance of a top 4 place 3 or 4 months ago?

That was a very very good performance, if we had 11 men could/should have won.

Still, brilliant perfermance, all over them!

great effort by the boys...bad luck for brownie but 2 yellows =a pain in the arse...just a pity when refs leave themselves open to calls of bias..ie ognonowskis tackle on mckain..love to know how that isnt a sending off offence....still there was a lot to admire in that effort..damn shame that it wasnt there at odd times during the season..good to see costaon and looking  like he belonged...big ups the the fever for a great supporters effort

Well done boys. We're still in it -just.
Streaming was sh@t in the second half, but it looked like a good, even end to end contest, even after we went down to 10 men.
It's not exactly "in our own hands" as some are saying, but if we do our bit next week there's a chance of playoff football.

Well really thought that that Omgwhathisnamekis should have been red carded for the knee in guts, he was going full on and there was no way he could have reached that ball that Mckains got and he knew that.

They all played well, even when one man down. Smeltz gave his all but couldn't just get that slightly glance/deflection touch in his finishing. He was marked heavily although Leo, Costa and Daniel help create gaps for him to sneak in.AllWhitebelievr2009-01-18 19:09:13

And to those who doubted Costa...

We would be out of this competition if it wasn't for him

He had a stunner today, would have to be MOM, Mossy played well too when called upon, a couple of mistakes but generally very solid

All of those who said this last week after the SFC game should be well and truly ashamed of themselves.

e.g. this was posted last week

how can they do what brown did for his second yellow in a crucial part of the field and get away with no cards the ref was inconsistent and as usual bias imo.

Am I the only one who finds the "OMG The referees are bias Just coz where from NZ" sydrome just a tad repedtitive, stupid, boring and unnesscary?

We played tonight like we really wanted it - great heart, great spirit - same again next week lads !!!

Costa was in everything, deserved the goal and will only get better with experience.

So we go in to the last week with a chance of making the top 4 - it's up to us on Friday night - a win and all the pressure suddenly piles on the Mariners - 2 key players down and needing a draw against Adelaide.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

No you're not. Ben Williams aside (even the aussies agree about him) they're not that bad. Just think back to the Warriors early days, that was something to complain about

Good on Costa for battling, but he wasn't near a flash as some are raving about on here. Ogre had his measure all day.
Great he scored a goal and he will benefit greatly.

Top effort from the side to get a point, but two things erk me.
1. Brown's tackle on Dodd when he was on a yellow and with so much of the game to go - dumb. What did he think would happen?
2. Bertos barge two minutes later when he was on a yellow - even dumber.
If the ref was consistent- and he was quite the opposite - then Bertos would have/should have gone as well and we would have had 9.

Shame Smeltz was off his game, he might have nailed the winner in the last two minutes in any other game.

great effort

But Royal, given his first start in the context of things it was a superb effort and show the promise of whats to come - all the Aleague teams are giving there youngsters a go, we seem to be a bit slow in promoting ours - Go Hard Costa!

You got it. People on here say he was great just because he was promising.
I thought he did well under the circumstances, but was no means great. Great goal though!
It means he might get a few more goes and I'd like to see him on next week.

Great game...
The way Adelaide strolled through with that early goal I thought....he we go, we are in for a hiding. But from then on I reckon we outplayed them for large periods of the game. Top effort from the lads especially going down to 10 men. We played with a lot of heart.

Smeltz was marked out of the game....but Costa and Leo played well. I don't think Costa was MOM but he didn't look out of place....got himself around the field and took a nice goal. I even thought Kwasnik had some nice touches.

Muscat and Siggy were fantastic on defense....remember how worried we were pre season about the right back slot....its yours forever Manny!!!!

Our season is still live....with one game to go. Come on lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i don't think he was biased i think he was sh*t without a doubt, how do you let them foul us and continue play then pull a yellow card out for a tackle similar or lesser of in value for us,  f**king sh*t house to go 80 minutes without giving them the same he gave us thats all

Honestly that was the best game the phoenix have played this season (without the result)
A lot of heart and hard work was put in, even more after going 10down, there it no doubt we would have won 11v11 but thats that.

Good on the Phoenix they can be very proud of themselves.

Was well played by both team I thought, ref ruined the spectacle. He was completely biased as far as the cards he gave out. Several hand balls in the box he missed - worst game ever by a ref! Adelaide will be disappointing that they couldn't finish it off though.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Yep, woeful. To his credit though he never stopped running and was solid in defence.

yeh - very enjoyable gamne after the first 15 minutes or so.

but Adelaide were playing their 5th game in 15 days, so might have helped us and explain why we were still all over them with 10 players.

still, best I've seen from them yet, apart from the finishing.  Don't know what the corner count was but it must have been well up in the second half.  You'd have liked to finish one of them for the win.

Yeah nothing could be done there.

One of the best matches I've been to although I am really glum about the final result.

To many touches at times from Bertos et al, or people not moving into a shooting position to get at the end of a ball.

Sorry but the Kiwi-bias being boring etc is a load of crap. The ref had a shocker and was the worst performance I seen a ref come up with.

Great heart in the 2nd half but a terrible first half an hour.

Great stuff but I'm gutted.

Great performance.

Costa got better and better. His touch let him down a few times, but he did some good work eventually. He held the ball up for Smeltz beautifully once. Well played lad.

McKain performed heroics in the middle.

Back 5 were generally excellent as usual, apart from the first goal.  Unfortunately Lochead had too many awol moments again, but these were mostly on the ball, and he did some important stops.

If we can find a decent replacement for Smeltz, we could have a great season again. Fred would be handy.

Im not sure about Kwasnik, is he fit - he didnt look it after 5 mins. Maybe he got a knock.

I think the ref was poor and missed too many free kicks, mostly Wellingtons way.

If Brown was to be sent off, then Adelaide should have a couple off at least. I thought the 14 stamped on Costa from where I was. Bertos was a bit lucky not to get a second yellow as well.

it would be interesting to read the report on that refereeing performance - i believe he was inconsistent with the cards he gave , professional fouls and studs up tackles got us cards but  the same sort of offence went uncarded when adelaide players were involved

ognenovski was surely close to a red

and turning round to spit in  the direction of the fever zone after his yellow will probably only get him a cuddle from the A-League 'disciplinary' committee

The replay certainly suggested he was. Flicked his studs up into McKain's face with the ball miles away.

Was watching with an ex All White and after seeing the replay, not only was it not a yellow card for Brown, it was not even a fowl.Don't think I have ever seen a game with so many cards.Have these refs ever played the game?

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

aside from a the inconsistent refereeing (which must surely bring a bit of discredit upon the league) that second half performance was as gutsy as anything i can recall, since our great come back v melb in the first ever game

great to see the team with 11 players, sat down knackered at the end

Manny - always fronts up and a great touch about fifteen yards out from the box bowt the 70 th min

siggy - folk hero

Mckain - my vote for mom, til ognenovski fouled him off the park

costa - added a presence up front that had their back four anxious for the entire time - to his credit he makes things happen and plays with intelligence

perhaps if the kind of effort we saw in the second half had been present in each game this season we might be in the play-offs by now (we still might make it but it's not entirley in our own hands)

above all, since that rocky start to the season we have regained our credibility over the last few months
