Why would we base our opinions of what the Phoenix are doing on an All Whites game?
 
Why would we base what Sir Alex Ferguson could do if employed at the phoenix based on what he does at Manchester United?

No, I see what he is saying, it just doesn't make sense in this context.
 
What Tegal seems to be saying is that if the All Whites make the world cup, then Ricki's job at the Phoenix is safe?
 
I disagree since the 2 things are separate.
 
I suppose the other side of that argument will be used if the All Whites DON'T make it then?

Yeah so Sir Alexs job at manchester United,under your logic,wouldnt matter when taking into consideration his hypothetical aaplication for the managers job at the phoenix. "sure he did well at manchester united,but...that and the phoenix are 2 seperate things,so i dont think we should take that into account"
 
And im not saying his job is safe,im just using an example to show that the 2 things arent completelty seperate as you are suggesting,his work elsewhere should still contribute to an indicator of his abilities as a manager.

I am not suggesting that if NZ make the World Cup, Ricki should be kept on, I was just making a point. I don't think the two are linked.

But he is already doing the Phoenix job!
 
If he wasn't already Phoenix manager, and the All Whites made it to the World Cup, then of course it would be relevant if he was then being touted for the Phoenix job!
 
If, for example, Alex Ferguson was currently managing Scotland and Man Utd, do you think that the Man Utd fans would give a stuff what he was doing with Scotland if they (Utd) were underperforming at the time?
 
Perhaps Ricki is a decent international manager, but not great at club level? It has been known to happen.

I don't think Ricki is an amazing world class coach or anything (and, lets be honest, no coach in the A-League) but he IS the best New Zealand football coach around and the only one really suitable for the AW's and Nix roles at this time.  No point arguing about it, really.

The fact that he is the first NZ born coach is great. Up until now if you had a Pom accent you must know something about football.

All well and good, but I have British coaches that were great and some were crap.At least they have given Ricki a chance, which 20 years ago he would have had no hope.
