That was my favourite away game of the season. We had to win that game or I think the home playoff was out the window. Not our best performace in an away game, but solid. Actually, at half time I realised - hey, we're going alright away from home - we can win home or away (though obviously I was dieing for a home playoff match!). Sooo glad we held on. I think we got some of the luck tonight that we've deserved previously this season. We should have been guaranteed a home playoff well before now. We're that good.

Wash your mouth out!!

In his defence m'lud he does appear to be afflicted with severe Aucklandism.

How much better do we play in a 4-3-3 with Lia back btw? Makes the world of difference

Lia is very dogged in midfield, always snapping at the heels of opposition players. Unfortunately his passing was at times uncharacteristically off tonight, but he's worth his weight in gold.

I thought Manny was ferocious too and never gave them space or time. Was almost like being subbed off was a compliment in a way, because you really got the feeling Ricki was protecting him from a possible, maybe even probable, send off as the pitch got greasier and the defending more desperate.

Very happy with that result.  There was no way that was a penalty but van den Brink's a useless f**k so he deserves it and it was a risky tackle in the box so he was always skating on thin ice.  Muscat was very unlucky getting that yellow card.  Commentators saying how dangerous it was, he was going down the whole time and it wasn't strong contact at all.  And that whole 'studs up it's a foul' rule pisses me off as you almost can't go in without studs up but that's another argument for another day.

Durante and McKain (and Reddy) were great.  First quarter of the game we were playing great football and it was great to watch.

Must love Aloisi now after that winner against Perth.

Not far off a home play-off now!

So happy. Especially since it was against GCU.

Pim Verbeek should just drop McKain and Durante into the Socceroos lineup for their Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia.

Very sad that Reddy will leave. I believed it before but 100% certain now that we would be borderline playoff material without him. Outstanding in every game.

Well done Nix!!

a home semi final would be massive so this Friday will be awesome - loads to play for

I noticed that Andy Harper called it the Cake Tin too when he did the post match interview with Ricki.

Great result with lesser football
2 weeks in a row

moody penalty from potentially the Leagues worst ref.

Lia, yeah I've said it a few times here, he should be first pick for the midfield.

still unhappy with our left side play. Often incoherent and regularly inaccurate. I am aware there has been an inability or unwillingness to have a consistent selection for the midfield and forward, but the LB has been in the team all season (bar 2 games?). So it would seem that at this level a requirement to both call, delegate and pass the ball should be happening with both greater regularity and accuracy.

one game to go in the round and all 4 results are in our favor. Nice.
onwards to Mariners
I know Terry is looking at the Lancaster Park to host the 4 v 5 play-off.

Was a great game last night, me and about 40 or 50 others were there singing us home. Was great fun. Only 4000 supporters there which could be blamed on the weather perhaps. But great fun.

Best parts were out chanting the home fans :
"SAME OLD AUSSIES, ALWAYS CHEATING"

boy did we get a few mean looks haha. But was great fun.

Greenacre really should have scored but we held out.

Looking forward to planning my next away trip
Thanks for all the fellow nix supporters who were all there yelling away with us

Everything went right for us this weekend, from other results to our own performance.  Soft penalty perhaps, but no softer than the one Sydney got against us in Palmy.  These things even out over a season.  And with Chelsea putting the Arse out of contention I've just remembered how much I love this bloody game...

Is it me or is this just awesome?

From season one and two i've been used to the nix putting in the odd good performance or getting lucky for the win, but now we can hold leads against one of the better teams this season. I think we've come a long way.
Has anyone else been on the fourfourtwo forums and seen how sh*t scared other teams are of playing us in the finals at the cake tin?  Theres alot of respect for the nix over the ditch, and for good reason. Nix for the win!

I hope he doesn't start, he was pretty average for about the 15th time this season.

Need a big crowd on Friday.  Over 15 000.  Want to see Terry make some money to reward all his faith in the team.  Because FFA covers the costs (and subsequently profits) of the finals so this is his last chance this season.

Well done Phoenix, and thank you for helping me win $160 on a $10 treble by having crazy odds of $5.25 at the TAB!

Gold Coast just cannot play against us...and as for Smeltz, I can only LOL at his efforts against us this season! Touched the ball about 5 times over the 3 games I think!

Oh Shane Smeltz - got up your nose a little bit have we?  I actually agree we didn't play that well - comfortably within ourselves I like to think, we just did what we needed to do to win.  Whatever, it was still good enough to beat your over rated shower.  Get over it.  The penalty was soft I agree, but no softer than Sydney's at Palmy that cost us that game.  These things even out.

First half (especially first 20minutes) we were good, knocking the ball round the park well.  We seemed to drop off a wee bit later on but still not bad by any means.

Get screwed Smeltz (until you pull on the All Whites shirt and I love you again).
