If you want some 'Murray Deaker Factor' - he's talking Phoenix + triathlon.  Thinks 'both' had gr8 crowds. Stevo2010-02-22 19:25:34

bugger, as per usual you need a car to get anywhere of importance in Auckland. Does the train run anywhere near there?

Maybe one of the Irish pubs in the city would accomodate some Kiwi-Austro football from time to time

Plenty buses go up Dominion Road.

Drew blames the 'corporates' for rugby's boring crowds.

As others have said buses are VERY regular down Dom Road until pretty late, but if you really want to take the train, it would be, er, 15 minutes walk from Kingsland station.

As for cars... bullsheeeet. I get everywhere on my electrified bicycle no problems.

Mate of mine had this to say regarding his rugby experience on Saturday night:

Went to the rugby last night with free tickets. I thought something exciting was about to happen with the thumping music, the cheerleaders and the fireworks. But then a rugby game started. We left at half time.

Yeah Mark Paston has never saved a penality in his life...oh hang on!

Pasty saved a penno, Reddy saved two.

'Assa'(?) blames rugby's boring crowds on NZ's "sit down and shut up culture".  'Assa' loves football and rugby.

LOL NO XD XD XD

Seriously - I really think there is something about the game of (association) football which lends itself to dedicated and passionate fan following that no other sport does, with the possible exception of cricket in India. It may be that the goals are so rare that it facilitates infrequent but intense emotional outpouring. If maybe rugby had 2 or 3 tries a game only people might get more excited about it.

Dave got cut.  Kevin get's it.  It's the sport.  It lends itself to fanaticism.  Murray questions whether that can go too far (i.e., hooli factor).  Wogs and hooligans. Stevo2010-02-22 20:00:41

I remember me and a mate went to watch the All Blacks and were told to sit down during the haka....that was really silly. A lot of people who go to the All Blacks want to be "seen" at the All Blacks.

I had one at the Hurricanes game the night before only because they weren't selling butter chicken pies(too often the only good stadium food).  No way was I buying a burger on Sunday.

1338kms, 18hrs driving in the space of 37hrs. Absolutely stuffed. Absolutely worth it. Well done to the lads, can't wait to watch a replay in the morning!

Been posted already? - http://www.3news.co.nz/Phoenix-goalie-Liam-Reddy-recalls-his-miracle-saves/tabid/367/articleID/143061/Default.aspx

Would be good if there was a single thread where all media coverage was posted, e.g. radio stuff as well, not being in NZ this stuff is what keeps me going and I am sure there are others in the same boat.

By far and away the best part of the whole game was when the Phoenix had only ONE kiwi on the field
24000 people in Wellington Patriotically cheering for a team with ONE kiwi in it
Priceless

Shhhhh! Bluemagic will hear you

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Patriotically?  You should read the thread for the Jests game - a fair few seem to not give a f**k about the AWs, I suppose this is a 'nix site first and foremost though.

That's not correct.

Edit: Whoops. I was wrong. There was only one kiwi on the field for a while there. Luckily we were chanting "stand up for the Phoenix", and not "stand up for the Kiwis"

Just like an Aussie, always cheating was yelled a few times though.  It was amusing when McKain or Durante had the ball halfway through the chant.

Actually it is.

At one point Lochy and Leo had both been taken off and Siggy hadn't yet come on.  Not that it makes Jordy's blinkered rantings and cluless muppetry any more viable.

Love my boss.  I explained the situation to him and he said "mate you get a ticket and you get up there for the Jets game".  So happy with that.  Couldn't get up for Perth but Newcastle are a team I'd rather watch us play anyway.  My pick: 4-1 to us.  Greenacre, Ifill, Durante, and Caceres.  LabinLOL Haliti to grab a consolation goal.

I don't get this chant. It isn't NZ v Australia and there are seven Australians in the squad.
